In other glasses related news, after having a feeling he had issues for a bit, my younger son had his vision tested recently. It turns out he is nearsighted just like me. His very first pair of glasses came in the mail yesterday. It was heartwarming to watch him walk around checking things out as he could actually see things more than five feet away from him for the first time in who knows how long. It's going to be great to watch him discover some in the next bit.
I remember when I put on my first pair of glasses when I was in Jr high.
I walked out of the office and was amazed at the trees. I COULD SEE THE INDIVIDUAL LEAVES!
You don't really know what you're missing until you see the full picture. It's like putting on a good pair of headphones for the first time, or seeing HDTV for the for first time.
exactly how i felt when i put contacts in. i don't wear em day to day cuz i sit at a computer. but concerts and golfing and that sort of stuff, changes my life
I've "worn" glasses since I was a sophomore in high school. At the time it was mostly for class and driving. In college I switched to contacts and was good about wearing one or the other until about 4 years ago. I started only wearing them when I "needed" to- driving, going to a show, watching TV. Eventually my glasses all got broken or lost, and I ran out of contacts. And that is where I have been for about 2 years. Obviously, I am not too blind (-1.25 at my last apt 4 or so years ago), but I haven't truly been able to see in suuuuch a long time.
Skipping details, I switched insurance companies and my HSA money went "missing" and it took a long time (half because of my own laziness) to get everything settled. As of about a month ago, everything is good to go, it has been my goal to make appointments for the miscellaneous doctors, but ya know. I am lazy. This conversation does (kind of) make me want to follow through and find my new doctors.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

yup i'm a -1/-1.25 so right there with ya. i got the daily ones now so i don't have to waste a pair just to wear them to a show and never wear them again. so i have like 90 pairs and it's going to last me like 5 years lol

Yeah I switched to dailies when I stopped wearing them every day and couldn't remember how long I had them/how many times I have worn them. But then the dailies eventually ran out... I still find random ones at the bottom of overnight bags and in festival gear.

We found out my oldest needed glasses one evening when I saw a bunny in the neighbor's yard. I called C over & told him where to look. After a good minute or two of saying "there" "right there" "no, there", I took my glasses off & put them on him. He grinned & could see. I felt like the worse mom in the world.

I am the same way! Tomorrow for Beyonce will be there first time I've worn contacts since the national championship game weekend in January. Dailies are definitely the way to go for lazy contact wearers.
bonzai , go to the eye doctor! Get your prescription & order some glasses. We aren't that far off in blindness, and I can't go without mine or I get a headache. Plus I can't see, so there's that.

Be glad that at least you discovered he needed them, I am kinda surprised they didn't discover that when they test the kids eyes in school, unless other states don't do that. My kid made me spend money on an eye exam (our insurance doesn't cover eyes) just because he WANTED them. He purposely failed the at school eye exam (barely). He made a stink about it, bugged me to take him for months and then when we went the eye doctor was like, nope he has pretty much perfect vision. I told him I would buy him fake glasses and he bitched that it isn't the same as needing them. Teenagers are ridiculous.

I don't know about an exam for contacts, but an eye exam at Costco cost me $59 +tax then a pair from Zenni was about $65. It's by far the cheapest I have ever gotten glasses for. Since Bonz's prescription is lower than mine, she should be able to get glasses for even cheaper as I need the fancy lenses.

Was it that low of a price because you bought the glasses as well?

Nope. The exam was at Costco. The glasses came from zennioptical.com. I don't even have a Costco membership.

Costco is always super cheap for eye exams, I used to get my exams there before I had insurance and I remember it being ~50 as well.
We just got a Costco here. Good to know they do exams and that I don't need a membership! My insurance is a high deductible plan, so I'm terrified of what I might need to pay for.
<cover your ears boys> My roommate is an OB and she finally convinced me to get the nuvaring. I went to pick it up, and it was almost $450 for three months. F that. I am so not sexually active, I am practically a nun. No way. Bye.

Don't use it! I had horrible side effects after using it for a year. They didn't kick in until after over a year. If you are curious as to what those where, PM me. Otherwise, DO NOT USE.

I didn't. Too expensive. My roommate and most of her OB/GYN friends all use and and love it, though.

I loved it until I had issue. When I told my OB/GYN the issues I started having after using it for a year, she was like, Oh yeah, that can happen. If I would have known in advance, I would have chosen something else.

Speaking as someone who has experienced a couple pretty awful side effects in the past, I've found that doctors aren't always great about letting you know about them ahead of time...

If a commercial has to run down all the side effects, I think a doctor should have to as well.

I LOVE those drug commercials. Possible side effects are rectal bleeding, foaming at the mouth, loose stool, projectile vomiting, and complete loss of all body hair. Did we mention your dick may fall off?

I'll be the voice of opposition and say that I am IN LOVE with nuvaring, it's the only bc I've tried that gives me zero side effects. There's possible side effects with all hormonal birth control, it's all about what works for you personally.

I felt quite a bit of guilt when I realized that Miller couldn't see far away because I was constantly telling him "BACK UP! You don't need to stand so close to the TV!" Apparently I was wrong.

I wanted glasses in elementary/middle school because all my friends had them. I tried to fail the test they gave us in school but apparently I was a super bad liar
So I'm like -5.5/-6.25, iirc. Literally anything more than a foot away is a blur.
-5.25/-5.75 here, completely understand the feeling of being almost blind. I had to call into work once when my only pair of glasses broke and I almost got fired because my boss didn't believe that I really couldn't do my job without them.
