This is the first time I've worn pants since I got a new, larger cell phone. There is no way to put it in my front pocket comfortably or without having a giant rectangular protrusion on my thigh. My contours are all wrong and throwing off my Zen.
My dad offered me a belt phone holster the other day. I can check to see if he still has it.
I'm going to take my dad to a NASCAR race as his Father's Day gift because he's weird and likes NASCAR. Does anyone have advice in terms of what is considered a good seat or about pretty much anything that I wouldn't expect at a NASCAR event?
As of now my only plan is to bring a rack of Miller Lite and a John Deere trucker hat.

The higher the seat in the grandstand, you can see more.

And Trump votes are everywhere.
It might finally be time to acquire one of those Reagan/Bush '84 t-shirts

Philly is freaking great, I can't believe people are besmirching it. Philly is great if you like good food and drink, history, culture, etc, and it's bad if you like people.

The only things philly has going for it is UPenn and the abundance of nearby craft breweries. Without those two things, Philly would pretty much be Cleveland.
Edit: that's actually a little harsh. It's pretty much like a smaller version of Brooklyn, if you lifted that smaller version of Brooklyn and placed it into one of the most politically backwards states in the north.

politically the state has a large rural population, that ain't Philly's fault.
Philly has the MOA, the Rodin, and the Reading Terminal Market in addition to Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and Betsy Ross' house. All are great things. Plus, South Street.

I agree about higher up. I think it varies by track but okay around with the seat view options. Sometimes it's better to be on a straightaway vs a turn. I think. (I've only been to one race as a gift to my dad so I am not very knowledgeable.)

Fair. But Reading Terminal Market and South Street are tourist trap clusterfucks.

You will just have to get one of those gaudy holders that clip onto your belt. This is why I haven't even considered one of the new larger phones. I hate having things in my pockets. I ended up getting a case that serves as a wallet also, so now I just have that and car keys in my pockets at all times.
I'm headed to Philly in a few weeks, so I was taking notes for stuff to check out.
Zavino is an excellent restaurant for its location and prices. The pizza is phenomenal but so is everything else.
Another option is happy hour at Graffiti Bar because they have unbelievable small plates for very cheap from an awesome restaurant that it shares a kitchen with. It's a very small bar tho. It's outdoors and you have to walk down a long narrow alleyway to get there, so don't miss it.
Monk's Cafe is famous for its mussels and massive Belgian beer selection. They also often have Russian river brewing company on tap. Tough to get a seat there tho.

Philly bashing always amuses me. It's typically low hanging fruit for the ignorant who have spent little to no time in the city. It is one of the best beer, food, and music cities in the US (pretty much the three pillars of life).
There are several craft breweries (including elite breweries like Tired Hands), and many new distilleries popping up. The dining scene has exploded, plus there are an abundance of sandwiches, and sandwiches are fucking delicious. The music scene is diverse and vibrant; the city has hubs in Fishtown / Kensington producing a plethora of indie & punk bands.
The sports fans are passionate..yeah they might give visiting fans a hard time, but I can't tell you the last time I saw a fight. It's nothing like it used to be.
One thing I always hear people mention after they move here is that they're surprised how nice everyone is. Of course you will get some cold people, its a northeastern city. For the most part though people are friendly. The city is filled with people who love music, art, food, and beer just like the majority of this board. As others have mentioned Philly is also so rich in history, with great museums as well.
It does bum me out when people trash this city, because it has so much to offer. Feel free to shoot me a message anytime you're visiting. I'd be happy to provide some rec's, or meet up for a beer / show.
Lastly, the backward state comment is pretty ridiculous. Philly and the surrounding 5 counties are liberal; the rest of the state really has no affect on Philadelphia and the experience one would have visiting.
El Rey has amazing nachos. Great place for nachos and a modelo. The rest of their food is garbage.
If you want a sandwich, do yourself a favor and go to Primos Hoagies.
Graces Trading Co has the best carbonara, period.
There are some very good brunch spots, but so few that the line at any legit place is always unbearable (unlike a real city such as NYC or Chicago which has more than sufficient high quality options). You're better off keeping it simple for breakfast unless you want to wait an hour watching people eat delicious food smothered in hollondaise and maple syrup.
I'm purposefully not recommending any cheesesteak places because it's a disgusting thing to eat. Cheese from a can is disgusting, and so is the low grade "steak" used by all the famous places.
