Right now my and my wife are planning on going to Richmond, VA for a weekend for an art symposium that she wants to attend. Anybody familiar with the area has any recommendations for what I can do while she is at the symposium? Also, any good restaurant recommendations?

If you're staying in Downtown/The Fan: Call Garageland. He will pick you up, take you record and toy shopping, get coffee (served by members of Inter Arma and Windhand) AND show you how to get breakfast for 3 meals a day in the city. If there's a good show, we can do that, too.
From Philly to Chicago, Badlands, Yellowstone, Seattle, Portland, Redwood National Forest, San Francisco, Yosemite, Vegas, Zion NP, Boulder/Denver/Red Rocks, then zooming back home. We'll be gone for a month.

Some random advice from a similar road trip done backwards. Yellowstone is over rated, if you were planning multiple days there spend a day in Yellowstone and the rest in grand Tetons which is wildly underrated and an hour away.
Schedule as much time as possible in sf and Yosemite. I could spend years in both and never get bored.
If you're going to Zion try to go to all the other parks in the area, especially Bryce Canyon.
On the way from Utah to Colorado I highly recommend independence pass. I believe it's the highest paved highway in the lower 48 and a cool historic abandoned town at the top.
If you have extra time on the tail end tack on Rocky Mountain national park. Just north of denver and truly amazing.

That sounds awesome! If y'all want company for dinner one night or if you want a home cooked meal by then, feel free to hit me up when you come through Vegas!

I'll definitely keep this in mind! Definitely gonna spend a couple days in SF ( currently trying to convince the gf to see Air with me at the Masonic) because we have free lodging, and we'll have about a week between leaving Sedona on the 31st and the avetts concert on the 27th so we should be able to check out Bryce Canyon.

Thank you! Right now I think we're only spending one night in Vegas and are using it to "do Vegas", but I'll definitely let you know!

I'm at a brewery in chandler AZ that just rocked a 40 minute Timmy tucker>recreational chemistry. And they played some panic and mule earlier. I like this place.

nothing like driving to work and everything is going great and the damn check engine light on the car starts blinking
edit: think i just need to add coolant. my car guy is so good he can fix it without even being here. changed the timing belt last month and think the engine is still getting used to it

we did this last labor day weekend and I agree it was amazing. but i will add it was super busy when we went, at least if you are trying to get to get to bear lake. might have just been the holiday weekend.
i want to go back, but my aim is to get to bear lake in the wee AM hours and watch the sunrise there.

Completely agreed that Tetons > Yellowstone. If you're spending a day or two in the area, and want an amazing hike with the absolute best view of the Tetons, do the Table Mountain hike. It can be a hell of a hike (one way is ~7 miles with ~4000' elevation gain), but it is completely worth it. At the top of the trail (11,100'), you are literally 2 1/4 miles as the crow flies from the Tetons. They're right there in your face, and who doesn't like some Tetons in your face?
Also agree on Independence Pass. When you're traveling back to Denver on I-70, dip down at Glenwood Springs towards Aspen and go over Independence Pass. I was bummed it was still closed due to snow when I went through Colorado a few weeks ago.
I know Glacier NP is a little out of your way, but it might be worth hitting it for a day or two on your way between Yellowstone/Tetons and Seattle. The "Going to the Sun" road is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
When I get home today, I'll try and post a few pics from the places I'm mentioning.

Got a ticket for the Mac Demarco show on Sunday. NWS is calling for 70% chance of rain, and it's an outdoor show.
Fuck.
Get your rain coat and puddle jumpers ready!
I don't mind dancing in the rain, just don't want get to the venue and then it gets canceled or something. Not sure what will happen if it's thundering and lightening.

My experience has been that they either cancel well before the show or delay until the radar shows the danger has passed.
That's at least how Ommegang runs it and they do camping along with the shows.
I can't focus. I should have taken off today as well. I want to go home and cook and decorate for Kyle's graduation tomorrow and cry. His graduation is really fucking me up, I am so depressed my baby is all grown up.

Thurston Moore just said that where he lives in England there is always a guy playing Coldplay, Rafiohead, or U2. He just walked out of the club before the encore and heard a guy playing Jerry Jeff Walker. He concurs. Dallas rules!
I just received an amazing gift from my inforoo family, I don't even know what to say. Jesus christ you guys, how can I ever say thank you enough?? I don't have a very big friend circle IRL, due to a lot of reasons, and sometimes I feel really alone and misunderstood. You guys, I swear to god, are the glue that keeps my sanity intact many days. Fuck people who say online friendships aren't real.
