I'm a little flexible in my dietary choices. I prefer locally-sourced Taco Bell, but when this is unavailable I am willing to have pizza delivered as a last resort.

On the reals though I went vegetarian for a few months several years ago. It wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be, but I didn't find much personal benefit to it either. OTOH, even though I eat meat, I agree that it's by and large an immoral choice. One that's REALLY REALLY EASY to not give a shit about because the effects of it aren't in front of me, but immoral nonetheless. Unless you're buying meat from local farms/butchers where you know the animals are being treated right, justifying eating meat in light of the way factory farm animals are treated is really, really difficult. Not to mention environmental effects of methane production and a bunch of other non-animal-cruelty related reasons.

Anyone got tips on Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals for TV's? My current one is a bit old and looking to upgrade but not spend a shit ton of money. Been doing some research on TV tech since I've been out of the loop and finding the stuff I need.

Thanks, yea I just saw that recently.
I don't usually go out early Friday for doorbuster deals or anything like that but may stop at Target and Best Buy at some point during the day to see what's available.

I've had good luck with TV deals on Amazon. They usually match or beat any deals you see at Best Buy and Target. Plus you don't even have to stand up.
I'd say check out the sites you want to buy from, read a few reviews on models available, then fire away.

i've got no specific tips, but the place on the internet to go for all things home theater is the AV Science forum. I'd look at what TV threads there have a lot of activity and that will probably help you hone in on the most popular models. There is also an entire forum there dedicated to "Great Found Deals", I'm sure it will be buzzing with Black Friday news as the time approaches.

Thanks all about the TV buying tips. Definitely don't need a huge one, the one I'm replacing is 42". I just know I want one with at least 4 HDMI slots and I'm seeing that 4K is the way to go for future-proofing (as opposed to just 1080p ones). Will probably try checking Amazon on Thursday and if I don't see anything by Friday afternoon I can try hitting up the actual stores

I suggest you go bigger! Always go as big as you can stand.

I'm officially Dr. Snowman now.
I have the next 8 days off work, and Ms. Snowman is at a conference so I get to be full-time dad, hanging with a 7 month old all day and going to the park with the 5 year old in the afternoons.
I played Xbox for the first time in 6 months today, and took an afternoon nap.

It's a very short distance in my living room area from the couch to the TV so I'm definitely not trying to overhwelm everything. I am probably looking at (at least) 42" - 50-something" for my new one. I know a lot of this kind of thing has to do with how close you will be to the TV and my current setup is pretty close so definitely not going for a major upgrade in terms of size. The main thing I want is a decent TV with the quality (4K), HDMI slots (4 would be great but may settle for 3), and if possible good refresh rate (have read that 60 Hz isn't great for long term and to try for higher).
