I certainly didn't need to run across this article so early in the morning. But as a dad/brother of a boxer who is 14 and way over the hill, it made me think. Maybe you saw it, maybe you didn't. But it has to do with should you leave your pet when it's being euthanized. I always figured there was no way I could be in the room if/when a needle had to be administered. Now I don't fucking know. :sniff:

In regards to that interview, Norm Macdonald has been one of my favorite comedians as long as I can remember but that interview is just awful. He refuses to engage with the idea that his friends might be flawed people and he has absolutely no empathy for his victims.
He literally says he looked at Roseanne's twitter and thought, "Well that can't be right." Saying she's not a racist when she repeatedly called Valerie Jarrett an ape shows that Norm is incapable of critical thought about his friends. And this quote, man, this is bad.
There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day. Of course, people will go, "What about the victims?" But you know what? The victims didn't have to go through that.
Louis's victims literally went through that. He destroyed their careers before they even got started. But yea, it's too bad he admitted to his transgressions and remains a millionaire.
Sorry, I know this is rambling but that interview made me sick to my stomach. Based on those quotes and the content of the rest of the interview I'm very glad Norm has decided to avoid current event humor in his new show.
it's a short interview and worth reading. i've always liked norm, and enjoyed reading his views on recent topics. i found the way he worded his comment about the victims of Louis CK's and Roseanne's actions lacked tact, but I understand what he was saying, that Louis CK and Roseanne are his friends, and while they did terrible things they are still human beings suffering, and it's OK to recognize that suffering as a different kind of suffering than the victims.
i guess there has been internet mob outrage over this and The Tonight Show has cancelled Norm's appearance which doesn't make sense to me. Norm has issued an apology and clarified his position, stating he was not defending Louis and Roseanne's actions (which he obviously wasn't) and that he didn't intend to minimize the pain of their victims (which was a fair thing to apologize for/clarify).
So I'm posting this to check myself, does anyone feel what Norm said was so heinous that it makes sense for The Tonight Show to cancel his appearance?
No, I don't think what norm said was so heinous his appearance should have been cancelled. I don't agree with Norm at all, but I think a good interviewer could have used this opportunity. I think Jimmy Fallon is a clown and terrible interviewer/LN host unless you want lip syncing and stupid games. I think Colbert, Meyers, and Kimmel probably would have used the opportunity to probe Norm a bit about what he said. call him out or let him explain better or something. Fallon couldn't handle that bit of seriousness, and I think the producers knew they couldnt just have norm on and ignore the comments and get up to the usual hijinks without looking bad themselves. They cancelled Norm because it was easier than having Fallon address him and the comments head-on.

I copied the same couple of lines to come back here and quote in response to this. I kind of get what Norm was saying, but he does seem really dismissive of the victims.
I have more to say but I’m having trouble putting my thoughts totally in order right this second and maybe don’t want to get too far into them in random thoughts anyway. I think that thread you suggested is a great idea.

We’ve had to euthanize two dogs. We’d had Madison since she was a puppy. At twelve, she just suddenly broke down as a result of what was almost certainly cancer (there was another possibility, but the outcome wouldn’t have been different). Dave we adopted when he was already a senior dog, so we only had him for about two and a half years. He was pretty rickety that whole time, but towards the end, his arthritis was really bad, and it was terrible for his quality of life. We loved both of those dogs as much as anyone could ever love a dog.
We were both in the room for both dogs when they had to be put down, and I can’t imagine not being there for any dogs we have to do that for in the future. It was devastating to say goodbye, but it was also comforting to know that we were there for them in their last moments. To be somewhere else and know what was happening without being able to be there for them would have felt so much worse to me.
I believe that there are legitimate reasons for a person to decide not to be in the room when their pet is euthanized, but I would definitely encourage anyone to give serious thought to being there. I think it is not only better for the pet, but, for a lot of people, it is better for the person as well.
Madison is the big girl on the right
Dave had a little trouble keeping his tongue in his mouth

It's all Postjack but I support it. I like the vast majority of people around here so it'd be nice to vent/discuss more serious but not-exactly-political topics like this somewhere on the board.
And I definitely like the idea of keeping Random Thoughts as a safe space for stray tweets, show rankings, food debates, and other inane discussions.

Oh yeah, I meant to direct that last part at postjack. Forgot I had quoted you instead of him.

Basmati Rice is a variety of long, slender-grained aromatic rice which is traditionally from the Indian Subcontinent. As of 2014, India exported 65% of the overseas basmati rice market while Pakistan accounted for the remainder.
Basmati derives from Hindustani "basmati" literally meaning "fragrant." It is believed to have been cultivated in the Indian Subcontinent for centuries. Basmati rice was introduced to the Middle East by Hindu traders. It remains not only an important part of various cuisines of the Indian Subcontinent, but now is also used extensively in Persian, Arab and other Middle Eastern cuisines as well.
Basmati rice has a typical pandan-like (Pandanus Amaryllifolius leaf) flavor caused by the aroma compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline. Basmati grains contain about 0.09ppm of this aromatic chemical compound naturally, a level that is about 12 times more than non-basmati rice varieties giving basmati its distinctive spicy fragrance and flavor. This natural aroma is also found in cheese, fruits and other cereals.

It was from Dunkin. I bought a dozen donuts this mornng and wanted to try it out.
Duncan is the McDonald's of coffee. Starbucks is maybe the Wendy's of coffee. Every conceivable coffee beverage can be made better by people who know what they're doing. Mass produced shit isn't that, so you probably shouldn't judge macchiato by what they taste like at Dunkin. I mean even their doughnuts are pretty poor. The walmart of doughnuts.

I drink Starbucks regularly but I do not drink real coffee. I drink coffee flavored hot milk.

Haha. Starbucks isn't bad per se'. Someone in Podunk, USA can get a decent cup of coffee flavored milk or even some black coffee that would probably be okay.
That's why I gave it a "Wendy's" rating. There are probably 25 small coffee shops or trucks here that are superior to Starbucks. Maybe as many as 100? I'm sure it's the same in Buffalo but I haven't had coffee up that way except in a private residence. And it was someone who lived here for 35 years.

I find this supremely offensive.
Coffee should be hot, strong, and black. It should not have sugar or other adulterants in it.
I don’t mind Starbucks coffee. It’s overpriced and there are better choices out there, but it’s fine in a pinch. I mostly drink it in airports anymore. I will occasionally get a bag of French roast at the grocery store if I can’t get Peet’s for some reason.
I do not like Dunkin Donuts coffee or their donuts. I miss Pinkbox donuts in Las Vegas. Those were damn fine donuts.
I live in the land of Tim Hortons. Virtually all of the Dunkins have closed up shop but I can probably tell you where twenty five Tim Hortons are within a twenty minute drive of here. I wish Carribou were around here though. That was way better than TH.

That's some purist stuff. I actually prefer cold brew/drip and always take it with milk but not sugar.
We are a coffee & chicory town, and not everyone outside of the area likes chicory. I mean I don't like it either, but it's fine when it's roasted with coffee. There are a couple of decent slow-process (24 hour?) drip places with brass piping. And District, while their doughnuts are adventurous, aren't always that great. But they introduced Nitrogen (N02 actually) bubbles into coffee. I can drink a 12 oz one of those 3 different times. One makes you zing like a mfer. It's super creamy like a Guinness due to those N02 bubbles.

It's not a hater thing. Everyone's got some guilty pleasures. People love McDonald's. People listen to radio pap. There's always a market for lower end stuff even if some people who dig it aren't necessarily limited in taste. I would just assume that being in an international, coastal city like where you are, you'd be able to get something better than Dunkin to drink.
I mean I'm not going to hate on people who drink Mickey's Widemouth Barrel Bottles or even their 40's. But knowing it's a guaranteed headache for me and that it isn't very good, I'm going to have to go ahead and skip. A Podunk gas station with watery tea-coffee is more along those lines than Dunkin. Dunkin's like the Miller or Budweiser of coffee.
