As a Yankee who lived in the south for three years, I can tell you that I never felt the fabled Southern Hospitality in a genuine way. It's anecdotal, I'm sure they are fine.
Also as a guy who taught college students for three years, southern men were huge jerkstores to southern women, and the women ate it up.

What part of the south? Idk about other places, but here people are genuinely really nice and talky (I am not nice to strangers, but I hate people sooo...). I find that if I am in a mood, just walking down the street to work can cheer you up, due to people here's outgoing and nice nature. It is another reason that people get stuck living here. But it is New Orleans and who can blame them?
Now I'm curious what you were searching for to "stumble" upon that link...
I wasn't searching for anything crazy. I have daily search alerts for "animals fucking in Chinese zoos with pictures and video" and anytime there is a new result, I get notified.
I think I'm turning into a grumpy old lady, or maybe I'm in a bad mood. But I feel like nearly every thread on here has annoyed me today... Which is something I don't think has ever happened before. I think it's a sign that I need to step back....
Then shit like this happens and reminds me of why the fuck I come here in the first place.

I lived in Knoxville for 3 years. Like I said, my experiences were anecdotal and I did meet some fine people, though they really seemed interested in me only on the surface. It was pretty tough to meet genuine friends there. The only people I still keep in contact with from my time in K-town are from Columbia, Missouri; New Jersey; central PA; and southern California.

Thank you for that.
You should probably smoke a doobie and watch Trailer Park Boys.

I don't smoke pot, but I did take a perc which means I'll be falling asleep here shortly and am watching last years Glastonbury on Palladia. So it's kinda similar.

That really sucks.
I did make one friend who is just really bad at keeping in touch but we were great friends when we lived there, and he was from Metarie and is a huge Saints and LSU fan.

Which just further illustrates my point of how awesome people from New Orleans are (for those that don't know Metairie is the suburbs of New Orleans, we don't usually include them except when it comes to our awesome hospitality. They usually include themselves in New Orleans though). AND of course he is a HUGE Saints/LSU fan. We pretty much all are around here.

Ok, this may be a better question for our older people. Which of these videos is more quintessentially (or painfully depending on your perspective) early 90s?

As someone who's main experience in the south is in knoxville, this blows my mind. I have met and made so many friends when I've been down for visits - some of my closest friends live and are from the area.
Edit: also- sorry your knoxville time wasn't so great. I know how it feels.

Just had a close encounter of the rattlesnake kind!
My shift ended, so I went for a bike ride on some of the lease roads (gotta lose that weight!). About 5 miles into my ride, I see a weird looking stick across the road. All of a sudden I realize it's a rattlesnake crossing the road! I slam on my brakes, and end up no further then 10' from him. Thankfully I knew they'd be out, being the hottest day of the year so far, so I was keeping an eye out for them. Needless to say, my watch will be extra vigilant tomorrow evening!
If you check my snaps, you can see a pic or two of him. About 3' long as near as I could tell. Once he crossed the road, he posted up shop in the shade and kept laser focus on me. ~5' was as close as I dared to get.

I think circumstances contributed to my miserable time - it's a college town and I was there for grad school so that was one problem. The grass truly is always greener though. When I moved back to Pennsylvania I just decided I wasn't going to let things like weather dictate my happiness anymore.

Pretty sure it was a Western Diamondback.
Omg I saw your snapchat and was imagining how freaked out I would be in that situation. Crazy.
