Shawshank Redemption is slowly overtaking Fight Club as my favourite movie.
Fight Club is good but it should not be anyone's favorite movie.
Shawshank is amazing. I absolutely love the scene when Andy plays a record for everyone over the loudspeaker. So beautiful.
So am I the only person who picks up on the homoerotic themes in Shawshank Redemption? The older guy mentoring a younger man in order to navigate the tricky waters of prison life? I swear I get the weirdest boners.
Fight Club is fantastic if you look deeper than what's on the surface. I had to do a paper on it recently (the book but same message) and you learn so much more about it if you continuously dig deeper.
It's just got this weird stigma of being a lot of people's favorite movie who don't fully understand it. They just think Tyler Durden and Project Mayhem is cool. There's definitely deeper levels to it but I do think it's very overrated.
Also, while I'm sure it was done before this plenty of times ever since I saw this I always have the "main character is making up this character in his head" trope in the back of my mind when watching certain types of movies. It doesn't ruin anything but it definitely was the first time I remember being shocked by the twist.
Well yeah, but let's not deny that Project Mayhem and Tyler are cool as shit on their own.
It becomes more interesting though (especially in the book) if you read it as though Marla is imaginary. The proof is in the text (dildoes especially).

Oh you!
Something I like about Shawshank is the constant theme of institutionalism. Brooks, Red, etc. It's a really underrated theme in the film.

The first time I watched Fight Club I was home with a concussion and I threw up.
Right now I've got Fight Club (x2), Trainspotting, Back to the Future and Ferris Bueller on my wall.
But where will the Bob Marley poster and the beer pong rules poster go?
Guys, guys, guys, don't forget about Boondock Saints. The movie that is all about honor and being a man or whatever. Or what about the poster of all the girls with their backsides painted like the Pink Floyd album covers? Ya gotta let visitors know you smoke pot and bang broads all day.

How much are wristbands usually going for on Friday or Saturday? I am thinking about a last minute drive up (13 short hours) to at least catch a few shows, what are the odds I could find a wristband at next to nothing
