I am sorry that you are having a hard time with life. Everything is seriously out of control right now and I don't even have the words to pretend to make it better. I just know that you are very special to a ton of people (including myself) and that you can pull strength in the knowledge of that. Or an ear/shoulder if you ever need it. I got mad love for you and I wish I could make equality and racism and all the other bullshit go away.
Doesn't help when even on the board you come for support and critical thought; or just fun; will not assist you when someone with power continues on and on. Diverting from the questions and issues to further illuminate how white supremacy and privilege is embedded in the culture and that people are openly blind to it because of their own success. What point is there when you realize that the people you surround yourself would let these asshat say whatever they want to you without contradiction? Being pushed repeatedly by this right rhetoric that we are victims and not assessing history against the popular narrative taught in schools. Only one viewpoint is allowed and it's of the powerful and monied.
Right? I feel like we need to add a "rich-white-asshole-splaining" category to the "man-splaining" phenomenon.

I disagree that there is only one viewpoint and I don't agree with the bullshit that is going on right now in our country especially when it comes to race and non-equality of people. If you are finding yourself surrounded by people that you feel do not have the same option of you, maybe it is time to start thinning the herd. You are in control of who you surround yourself and if you don't agree with their opinions, find like-minded individuals to hang around with.
I know that it doesn't fix ALL the broken that has decided it can openly show its face now (on a much larger scale), but it will mentally make you happier to not have to deal with those confrontations on a level that you consider friends. You don't deserve to be around people that are hateful or mean or ugly because they feel they are superior for whatever bullshit reasons they have. You deserve happiness and it is up to you to find that happiness and the first step is removing the people that are not making you happy.
When I go to the gas station, I have a habit of getting the price to end in 0 or 5. If it clicks on another number, I bump it up. If I overshoot the 5 or 0, I keep adding more to get to the next one.
I think thats an idiosyncrasy that many people have. Its up there with always having the cash in your wallet in order of value and all facing the same way.
Paging Monie. Monie to the OCD zeroes and fives discussion. Petrol is whatever, but the volume drives me up a wall. Why debate between 20 & 25 when we all know it's 23 time?
And guess what... those numbers? Kinda arbitrary. Your round 15 volume is really something like 63.4db. Remember that next time you think you've found your "perfect" volume while cruising down the road. Do you also set your car thermostat to 70F when that's actually 21C? At what point does this all fall apart?
Keeping cash in order, though, just makes sense. I even do that in Australia, where our notes are all colourful and easy to distinguish. I couldn't imagine not doing that in the monochrome hell that is American money. And holy dooley, y'all really need to get rid of your singles and pennies. Like hot damn.

Its not just about the value of the bills, they all have to be oriented the same way. cant have two presidents facing each other and god help us if any of them are upside down.
When I hang any pictures, I always use the command velcro strips so they never move/get un-level... And before I put it to the wall I measure from the floor, from the other pictures (or edges of the walls), I use a level... And I always check 2-3 times... I make JR hold stuff up in many positions while I look from every angle.
If it were up to him, I think he'd throw a nail in the wall and walk away...

My wallet is anal conga line, not a 69ing party. I have standards, damn it.

How do you get those command strips to stay on the walls?!?! Every time I try and hang something up they always fall within the hour of putting it up. My roommates and I must be doing something wrong.

I have no idea? We just use them like the directions say.
When was the last time your walls were painted? I know I've painted the house (and some repaints) in the last 3 years... (Maybe it works better on fresher paint? I know I always wait 30 days after painting to use them though so the paint fully cures).
I've also taken down and redid walls and they've done no damage. Our walls are fairly smooth... Maybe if they were ripply it wouldn't be as good? Do you hold them on for the whole 30-60 seconds it says?

We even have 2 command hooks for the kids' backpacks... They've been up for 3 years... I think they were like 5lb limit hooks... I KNOW their backpacks in the last 1-2 years are way heavier than that half the time. I have been totally expecting them to come off and have to get some screw hooks into a stud... But that has yet to happen... I'm a little surprised.
i've been prepping dinner for tomorrow and watching re-runs of old real world episodes. the season ended and purple rain started next. it was a welcome reminder of just how sexy prince really was. dear god.

I know I'm late to this, but I do this too. For both the bills & the volume. The numbers is the most important for me though. Volumes have to be on 0 or 5, amount I pay for gas, if the thermostat is done with digital numerics, pretty much anything that has a digital number display has to end in a 0 or 5. I have no idea how it started, but it's gotten way worse over the years. Cap'n Mac is the only one whose ever been truly bothered by it though. I find nothing wrong with it.

Does anyone know a decent amount about home stereo systems?
My dad asked me to look into things he would need and maybe some reviews because he wants to turn his old stereo system into something a bit more modern.
Currently he's got an old school receiver thing that has a radio tuner and a 500-disc CD player attached. This is connected to speakers in the living room as well as some speakers outside attached to the house (for when doing yard work or having a party or whatever).
I'm not sure where to begin. He wants to ditch the CDs altogether and go towards an iPod or hard drive type of situation. I'm so behind with current audio hardware that I'm not sure what's good and the pros/cons of these kind of things.

It depends on how much he wants to spend and how many of his components he wants to replace/update and what he is looking for. Good stereo for music? 5.1 home theater?
Lots of people seem to like Sonos speakers, which are wireless and can stream your music via wifi from Spotify, google, etc. and they have a modular setup so you can add speakers to multiple rooms for simultaneous playback. They also have a wifi receiver you can add to existing "dumb" speakers to incorporate those.
Personally I just use my Chromecast to stream music/video to my TV, and run a HDMI to my receiver for digital output. Then I can also run my turntable off the receiver (I'm not sure how it works incorporating a turntable with sonos). But it means I could keep my older preamp and amp. Ie: he may not need to update his old school receiver- though I'd recommend at least a digital-in (HDMI, fiber) if he wants optimal home theater experience.
I still had to run speaker wires for my setup, but it opened up a lot more options for speaker choice, especially at the price points of the Sonos speakers.
It really all depends on his budget and what he wants out of his system.

I run my turntable off of a Sonos Play 5. There's no hookup on the Play 1 or Play 3 (at least when I bought them) to run the turntable through it, but I bought a pre-amp and the Play 5, and then connected the Play 5 to the Play 3 through the Sonos app, and now my turntable broadcasts to two floors in my house. I have been happy with it but I'm more of a convenience setup guy than quality (I wouldn't be able to distinguish quality for you).
It was probably already discussed somewhere else but Chance was wonderful on SNL this weekend. Made me feel good to watch.
also this is worth a minute and a half of your time:
My other half and I watched this live and both agreed it was the best digital short of the year. Being born and bred massholes helps sway that opinion, but christ, it's wicked fuckin accurate.
I'm sitting at Vanderbilt hospital waiting to see if my insurance is going to cover a CAT scan. If it doesn't I'm just going to get one of my five cats and run it across my body. Same thing right?
