I tried gargling salt water earlier and projectile vomited, into my sink thankfully. I'll try the booze.
If you have to be presentable at any point replace the Hot Toddy with mouthwash and coffee/tea/straight up hot water. That usually makes me feel better. My go to though is these little bastards
You should be able to get them at any drug store. They're incredibly cheap and each tab has at least twice the menthol of a regular cough drop. They kinda taste like dirt but holy hell are they soothing.
I suppose this is just a normal part of the job, but ESPN's layoffs still frighten me.
I liked a lot of the writers and personalities they let go and I hope that they all find jobs elsewhere.
ESPN has been going downhill for a while. They got into that celebrity culture trap, where they seemingly only talk about a handful of teams/players and whatever to the rest.
Today was a long day. My boss is on vacation so I've been picking up some of her workload this week, and my full-time employee has been sick for two and a half of the last three days, so I've taken on hers as well. It's been a little stressful, but nothing too bad. Well today I had to work an unexpected extra four hours because she needed to go home, and I also got an email telling me that a position in a different store that I was really hoping to get had been filled. Again, it wasn't the worst day in the world, but I was exhausted when I got home tonight. I had some delicious pizza begging to be eaten though, so after unwinding I popped it in the oven...
...and burnt it to a crisp.
I'm not complaining though, because ultimately I found it hilariously absurd and got a decent laugh out of it for a few minutes. Cheers to sleeping in tomorrow!

The worst part of this united story is now every time someone is kicked off a flight it's national news. And now more so than ever any time a flight attendant gives a command someone doesn't agree with they aren't going to listen.

That ESPN list is filled with a whole bunch of untalented hacks and ex-athletes that for some reason were hired by ESPN. I have watched less and less of ESPN and read less and less of the crap they put out because of these people. Good riddance.

You saw about the giant bunny that died yesterday in United's cargo hold? Bunny was in great condition before flight, checked out by the vet 3 hours before, dead upon arrival. They are having a seriously rough patch.

i just shared my post from last year about people were boycotting target, united flights will be full next year no doubt
To your earlier post... yea, journalism is a game of survival. I've done this professionally for six years. In that time I've had four different bosses and been laid off once (technically). My unit's focus has shifted twice, been renamed once, and I've seen a unit created to replace the one that was killed off before I got here.
The whole industry is in flux and that will probably be the case for the rest of time. What that means for you though is as long as you're on top of your shit there will always be another opportunity. You get laid off? You can start freelancing that day. You get tired of not getting clips anywhere? Start your own site. Those are really, REALLY broad generalizations but you see where I'm going with this.
Basically... always have an exit plan. Build an emergency savings. Network like crazy. Take opportunities when they come. Always maintain your credibility. Know that sudden job loss is a part of the game. You'll be fine.
Best natural remedies for a sore throat? No stuffed up nose, just sandpaper throat.
1/3 Whiskey or Bourbon
1/3 Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/3 Honey
This is an Old Irish treatment for sore throats my aunt taught us. Generally most people do a teaspoon/teaspoon/teaspoon or tablespoon/tablespoon/tablespoon. Heat and stir or stir and heat. It's easy to do in a coffee cup in a microwave. It won't cure anything but it helps soothe the throat. I'm assuming this is sort of the root of where the honey-lemon cough drops came from. It does work though.

paraphrasing, but Colin Jost had a great line about this on SNL a couple weeks ago: "I will no longer fly United, unless they are flying to a destination I'm trying to go to and are offering the cheapest price."
maybe in larger cities people have a choice of airline, but out of Mobile/New Orleans, I'm generally just booking the one airline that can get me where I need to go. I don't spend a lot of time thinking about the brand.

100% this. I feel bad for those folks but we have very limited airlines here. Maybe once that changes, I will think more on it.

Anyone have any advice for buying DSLR cameras? I'm not looking at Anything crazy expensive or powerful. Just want to get something that takes good hd video and can also let me plug in a microphone/portable audio recorder. I've been looking at all these bundles on Amazon and not sure what is the best deal and option for what I want.

I work in television and have lots of friends in film and every person I know has a Canon camera. I've been told they're very adaptable and have a strong second-hand market. There's no way I can back that up with data or my own expertise but it sounds reasonable enough.
