That your ability to feel empathy is directly proportional to somethings physical distance from you?
Or that when things affect you locally, it does often have a greater impact. It's no longer just on the news, you see it first hand. Doesn't seem like a strange concept to me. That doesn't mean that empathy can't be felt when it's not local.

Or that the population density of NYC is higher than dallas and much higher than west Africa. And that makes containment much more difficult. Its a basic trope of any zombie/outbreak movie.

or you know, Dr. Joe was just being a bit facetious... I highly doubt he was implying that a single case in NYC was worse than the situation in West Africa.

Has anyone ever tried to pull off two shows in two different venues on the same night? If yes, was it worth it? Or should I just choose one show. Fuck me, this is so annoying

Never done it myself. How close are the venues? Are the start times offset any? Sounds like a hassle, but depending on the how much you like both acts, and logistics, I guess it could be possible.

We have a venue here that has 3 different stages. That might be doable. Otherwise, pick the one you can't live without.

The venues are about 20 minutes apart, all highway though. James Blake is supposed to start at 7, and modern baseball doesn't go on until 9:30. In theory it could work out but it would be such a hassle. I love both of these artists, I haven't even thought about who to choose between the two
And as a health care worker, and immunizer, get your flu shot and quit worrying about Ebola.
I've never gotten the flu, at least not in recent memory. And I know people who ended up with the flu after getting a flu shot. So why get a flu shot anyway?

Except since in NYC last time I checked there were sanitary measures slightly more effective than everyone in a house shitting into the same bucket then dumping it into the street. We have a decent infrastructure and a almost first world health care system it would be pretty hard for us to have an outbreak of a virus that can not be passed through the air.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

oh I know. I work in the building where the initial research for that experimental treatment used on those two US healthcare workers was done. I think the whole ebola "scare" is ridiculous, and quite humorous.
My point was that saying "shiz got real" probably has nothing to do with with the apparent lack of empathy by Dr. Joe and is just a common trope when talking about epidemics and their spread to the large city centers.

You can not get the flu from a flu shot. You can ,however, still get the flu after getting a shot. There are a number of different strains. You might get a strain that was not in the shot. But the duration and intensity will be much less severe if you get the shot than if you do not.
If you don't do it for yourself, then do it for everyone else.
It's been so long since I've gone to a show alone that I'm getting nervous about going to Courtney Barnett & San Fermin.
I'm a real wimp.
You're going to have a blast. I've done every show but 2 alone this year. It's great. Just start drinking and don't get there too terribly early. <3
I went. Had a blast.
Before I start spewing about how fucking amazing San Fermin was, am I late on discovering them? Because.. holy cow. They put on a beautiful, energetic show. The only thing that could have been better was the crowd. Attendance was very low (MAYBE 250 people) and the crowds energy was statue. Seriously, no one was moving. It was super awkward and the bands noticed, so I doubt they'll ever come back

I've never locked my doors in my life, at least not in recent memory. And I know people who ended up getting robbed even after they lock their doors. So why should I lock my doors?
Because I have four other people who live with me for whom I should do my best to keep them safe. This is the same as getting a flu shot.

I hate when crowds are like that. I can't stop moving when I hear live music, no matter what it is. I don't understand how people can just stand there.

Same. Shit, I even bob my head to the music on the PA between sets! Just being in that environment of live music and a crowd, when music hits, my body responds. And I'm awkward as fuck as far as dancing. But fuck it, I'm not there to impress others, I'm there to enjoy the show

HA! I've totally full out danced to the music between sets. And I'm a terrible dancer too. But I don't care. I can't help it.

I've done more dancing to the music between sets at a show before than the whole crowd in attendance combined did during the actual performance. I wasn't always proud of these moments.

Thanks for tagging me, but I have nothing positive to say or add. Rothric, BB, and yourself covered it all adequately.
People who have gotten way-in-the-back seats at a a stadium concert - was it worth it? I want to get my mom Fleetwood Mac tickets for her birthday/Christmas, but they're way expensive so the only ones even moderately affordable are on the third level.

You're in the building, you can hear everything. Can't see shit, but you can hear everything.
I'll be in Boston tonight watching Fleetwood Mac from the top level

It all kind of depends in how much im into the band and how into the show the crowd is. im not a fan of arena/stadium shows in general. From really far away I almost feel like I'm "watching" a concert rather than "being there." But ive also had great shows at arenas as well (radiohead and WSP NYE come to mind). If all I can get/afford are nosebleeds I pass, bc that far away the sound is usually shiz so you cant see OR hear that well.
