Just scored tickets to a Brainiac reunion show here in Dayton. I'm beyond excited.
Holy shit, that's awesome... I didn't even know they were back together, especially with Tim Taylor having died 20 years ago. Love this album, especially, and also Hissing Prigs... One of those great oft forgotten bands that were just on the fringe of popularity in the mid 90s. So, so good.
I just read a review that equated the record to the Australian National. It’s pretty on point.
Already thinking I’m sending Cap'n Mac and Monie all my moneys for merch.
Plus shipping, obvz.
Ohh, I love me some Gang of Youths. They're very local to where Monie and I live (as in, walking distance), and have been a big buzz band around the neighbourhood for 4 or 5 years now. I'm glad to have see them blown up nationally, and now making a name internationally.
I saw them at St Jerome's Laneway in February, and it was one of the highlights of the day. The crowd was very into it, and David (the lead singer) seemed super humbled and overwhelmed at the crowd size and reception. He kept saying things like "we all grew up just 20 minutes up the road, and even just a few years ago, we'd never have dreamed playing to a crowd a tenth as big as this". It was kind of adorable.
Here's a good, hungover, Gang of Youths swag selfie. Send your shirt size, address, and money, and this too could be yours!
