Even though I'm a fan of this type of ambient or avant-garde music, in general, knowing the story behind this music - how it was created, and its relationship to 9/11, has always increased its poignancy to me.
When I went to the 9/11 museum and memorial last month recently and heard it playing in the background as we walked through, well, wow.
Here's a decent interview with The Quietus about it.
Wow. Less than 2 minutes in and I can tell this is AOTY material.
What is it?
It's from a series of albums, going on about 4 years now, centered around John Zorn's second book of Masada songs—jazzy instrumentals composed in traditional Jewish scales and using strict rules. Zorn has said his intention was to merge Ornette Coleman with klezmer. For each album, an artist or group is given the freedom to choose and interpret a selection of Masada pieces. Past interpreters include MMW, Secret Chiefs 3, Uri Caine and Marc Ribot. But this is a real standout, one of the best so far.

OK. The image didn't show up so I was wondering who the artist was and the title of the album.

I think Fuzzy asked because the picture isn't showing up...
