Yup. AotM contender. By contender, I mean front runner.
This is part Nico and part Josephine Foster (and a dash of PJ Harvey's brooding) being drug through a southern gothic graveyard. There's even a Perfume Genius duet if you absolutely need that.
Hi Bishop, I would love some suggestions for where to start EN.
Hey, glad to see someone checking out this challenging band. You've got the right idea starting with Halber Mensch, it's my favorite and probably the best representation of what they were and would become. If you want something more harsh and challenging, Kollaps is a tremendous experimental/noise album with some tracks somewhat resembling pop structure. Also, Drawings of Patient OT moves closer to pop structure while still being rather abrasive and experimental. Halber Mensch is the perfect balance of the noisier stuff and more atmospheric, surprisingly calmer material. After Haus Der Luge (which many consider their best) EN settled into being more of a gothic art rock band, with a tone that owes a bit to post rock, and really in my opinion everything they've put out is at least good. Of the later stuff, I think Alles Wieder Offen is probably the best representation of what you can expect.

I hope that helps.
Thank you for the recommendations! I've been wanting to check EN for a long while, and I'm glad that I could finally find the time to do it. Halber Mensch was really challenging to listen to, but I was patient and finished the whole album. After that, I've held off on checking rest of their stuff until I get more suggestions from someone that actually knows them. I'll probably go with Alles Wieder Offen as the next one, to see how their recent albums sound like. Regardless, I want to see them live one day, but it looks like they don't tour much in US.
