Stranger Fruit by Zeal & Ardor (black spiritual music meets black metal)
I've been on a black metal kick all week, it seems. Yesterday was the Bathory discography and today will likely be Emperor. I realized today that if push came to shove, I'd put 3 of those Bathory albums in my top 25 Black Metal "best of" list.
I'm eventually moving on from the 90's butd goddamn those albums.

All of Bathory was great but they had two distinct styles, Black and Viking metal.
For Black, stick to the 80's output:
Bathory The Return…… Under the Sign of the Black Mark Blood Fire Death
Hammerheart started the Viking phase for a few years leading up to Quorthon's suicide.
Emperor is a tough call. You really only need two albums:
In the Nightside Eclipse Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk
That said, do research on them as their past is less than glorious. The big controversy was the drummer killed a dude in a park for hitting on him. He was caught and convicted but it's still questionable listening.
