I predict this Mighty Sparrow comp will be one of the better archival releases this year: www.strut-records.com/node/786
For those not familiar:
Also, Esperanza Spalding has a new album out in March. Islands and Phenomenal Handclap Band have new albums out 2/14. I think Amadou and Mariam have a new one in March also. And maybe D'Angelo's album will finally come out sometime in 2012...

Kisses on the Bottom sounds like a British euphemism for something really dirty. Or it just reminds me of Rita from Arrested Development saying "I'm ready for lie-down kisses."
It has been quite some time since a Rolling Stone review made me go out and listen to a record. Until today.
"This album is a spectacular gamble: two 15-minute alternative-country operettas of heartbreak autopsy, written in whiplash sequences of hope, breakdown and fragile resolution and scored with twang and bluegrass-style harmonies. It's as if Jeff Tweedy was writing for Wilco while still in Uncle Tupelo, with opera on his mind and a stopwatch in his hand. Nick Shattell is a direct composer ("There’s no God where I've gone/There's no saints where I’ve been"), and the band brakes and bolts with earthy aplomb. Not an Airplane have made other records, but this one is so bold and accomplished, it feels like a debut."
I'm really glad that I gave it a shot it is a really great, to the point album. It contains various styles withing the 2 song sets from accoustic folky to raging country rock. It is also a great exhibition of Alt-country songwriting. Give it a shot I think you will enjoy it.

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea has opened up about his new super group with Blur/Gorillaz founder Damon Albarn and Fela Kuti's drummer Tony Allen.
The group, called Rocket Juice and the Moon, is currently rehearsing for a run of shows.
Flea recently told Mojo how the project came about:
"We met on a plane in 2008. The three of us were going to Lagos as part of Damon's Africa Express Collective. I'm a huge Fela Kuti fan and Tony [Allen] is one of my favourite drummers, so to get to talk and play with him was phenomenal."
The group's first album is set for release in March and when asked about the direction Allen explained, "it's all funk."
Albarn noted that things fell together smoothly:
"Everything just fell into place. It felt special being in a room together."
OMG. I am so sorry. I got so happy about the album I completely didn't look at the cover.
Taken down.
It happens. At home this morning, I was 90% of the way to posting an Andre Williams album in Now Playing when I noticed the cover was not good for the workplace.
