My resolution is to once again, not make a new Years resolution.
There is no habit that can't be changed immediately. You don't wait for a certain date to change your life. I firmly believe that if you have to set a date to change something, you will not follow through with it.
If you truly wanted that change, you can/will do it immediately.

Unfortunately, the daily grind makes it very difficult for people to stop and reflect on what they would like to accomplish in order to reach self actualization. Too few humans actually work on self-improving measures, develop goals etc, all of which are so important in avoiding stagnation. I love that people take the time to examine this.
Of course people transform all year, but some times we need a reminder to take a moment and do some self exploration to find which corners need to be cleaned, find where we need remodeling and rehabbing. Kudos to those who do this via New Years resolutions, and to those who do it throughout the year without the need for resolutions instead.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Mine was to stop smoking cigs. Key word here is was. That lasted all of one day. Might give it another go next week.
"Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times." - Mark Twain
Mine too. I'm thinking of getting one of those prescription drugs that give you crazy dreams and turn you into a bitch...since that's pretty much me anyway once I quit cold turkey.

I went from a pack a day smoker, to a social smoker. I can smoke a million (slight hyperbole) cigs when I'm out drinking...and then be fine for a week or so without a single smoke. I am now going to try to eliminate them completely. The problem is that a lot of my friends are also social smokers, so I basically have to avoid them....or at least drinking for the next while. But luckily when I eat some corn, cigs are the farthest thing from my mind. More corn!!
I don't usually make resolutions, but I feel that this is going to be a year of great things. So I resolve to practice mindfulness, lessen my carbon footprint and see as many shows as possible.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.
I'm actually on Day 5 of cessation right now (using nicotine gum to curb cravings) and things are going pretty well. I agree with cinnamon girl on the corn/smoking relationship. You can give up smoking without completely giving up smoking.
Not a "resolution" per se, but I did promise myself I would be sure to do one thing a day that Ive been procrastining and document it. Doesnt have to be something big but things like mailing my bone marrow testing kit or returning my comcast boxes from an old apartment I lived in 9 years ago. Gives me a little more structure then just saying "I want to get my life balanced". So far its working for me.
So we had our last cigarettes at 7 o'clock this morning. Couple of mood swings but not too bad so far. Using what we call a fake cig, like a Blu to break the habit and ritual part of things but keep some nicotine in the system.
And I haven't tried Chantix but the patches caused dreams that were out of this world! Hang in there everybody.

Good job. I'm going to give quitting another go on friday. I'll just use my weekend to be extra irritable and hopefully by monday I can be somewhat back to normal. It doesn't help anything that every single person in my office chain smokes throughout the day. Not sure how I can justify a 10min break every hour once I stop smoking though.

Wow, I'm in exactly the opposite situation with not one of my colleagues smoking, at least not openly, so I've been in the closet for ages.

Same for me. With the exception of exactly one person I hang out with, no one I know smokes anymore. In the six days since stopping I haven't been around anyone smoking, which has been helpful.

Unfortunately the one person I hang out with who smokes...my husband! So when we stop we need to stop together. Still hanging in, no smoking but those Twizzlers better watch their asses.

1. Lose another 20lbs before Roo (I'm 50+ down already...but it gets harder at the end!) 2. Don't drink at all during the week. This has been pretty painless so far. Should also help point #1. 3. Work less and spend more time with friends instead. So far so good (this is surprisingly hard for me...I have trouble turning down freelance work). 4. Buy a house. We've been looking since August, no luck yet but I have faith in new spring listings! 5. Go to Roo, Newport Folk, and see the Steelers in London. Tickets purchased for the last two, Roo tix as soon as they go on sale. PSYCHED!
