Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
This clue can fit a lot of things. For example: I'm pretty positive this isn't right, but Ice Cube. "Crash of the Titans" is a book by James O'shea. O'shea Jackson is Ice Cubes real name. Check yo self was an Ice Cube hit. There was a giant ice volcano found on the Saturn moon Titan. Ice can been crunchy or not if it is melted. You can also make ice in all sorts of favors and Ice Breakers gum are called Ice Cubes which come in several different flavors. They are also crunchy when you first start chewing. As I said I really don't think this is right but this clue can fit a lot of different artists.
For anyone looking into a new direction for this clue, it may be worth trying to look into the actors/characters/plot/soundtrack in Remember the Titans and Clash of the Titans.
Didn't Gary confirm on twitter that it had to do with the NFL? I haven't seen Clash of the Titans so correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they all high school football stories?
edit: whoops again. mixed up gary's tweets. i see that it is not confirmed that it is NFL related. in that case, hmmm you bring up an excellent point
Looked earlier but couldnt make any connections, Denzel's Character is named Herman Boone .... Sam Worthington is Perseus.
For anyone looking into a new direction for this clue, it may be worth trying to look into the actors/characters/plot/soundtrack in Remember the Titans and Clash of the Titans.
Hear me out with this line of thinking:
Name amongst the titans --> Clash of the Titans --> The Clash --> Mick Jones. Mick Jones is our name amongst the Titans. The clash also considered titans of punk rock? I could argue.
Mick Jones also front runner of recently reunited Big Audio Dynamite. (Which I might add played practically every festival BUT roo last year.) Big Audio Dynamite has an album called "Kool-aid" which contains many Flavors. Whats your favorite flavor? --> Kool-aid.
Eh? lol
edit: in case my thoughts didnt connect well: this was a guess for Big Audio Dynamite

Alabama shakes? I mean shakes is pretty obvious as there is many flavors but I don't know how to tie Alabama into the Titan spot. I'm also extremely drunk so my thought process is not on point hahahah

I think at this point all of us have had a few....
just throwing this out there- there was a general agreement that lollipops fit the clue for the second part, and modest mouse's album "sad sappy sucker".... well i may be a little biased, but i'd say they're a pretty good fit.
I think Gary's usage of the term "flavor" means a person that has been in a few different bands along with perhaps a solo career. I also believe that "Titans" is referring to the Gods. Cream, the Yardbirds, Derek and the Dominoes, and the Bluesbreakers. Remember, Clapton is God.

bonnaroo Give this one a whirl... 'RooClue #2: A name amongst the Titans. What's your favorite flavor? #rooclues
WHIRL + FLAVOR let me think COTTON CANDY
Aphelion From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The aphelion is the point in the orbit of a planet or comet where it is farthest from the Sun. The Earth reaches its aphelion when the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing summer. The point in orbit where a planet or comet is nearest to the sun is called the perihelion. The word aphelion derives from the Greek prefix "apo" (meaning "away, off, apart") and "Helios" (the Greek mythical god of the sun).
The Seven Fields of Aphelion plays sythesizer for BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW
They also have a song called.... "Spinning Cotton Candy In a Shack Made of Shingles"
So Aphelion could refer to the name amongst Titans and flavor could refer to cotton candy.

As much as I want it to be Black Moth, I think I remember seeing something in the direct artist confirmation thread about them not being ther this year.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
We havent had any luck with anagrams in the past, and I know earlier in the thread someone looked up names in "titans" but I think it made more sense to look for names in "the titans" Any of these spring any ideas? "Athens" is in here...?

I googled "what's your favorite flavor" and found that Jelly Belly, makers of those gourmet jelly beans with all the awesome flavors like buttered popcorn and toasted marshmallow, actually have www.whatsyourfavouriteflavour.com as their official UK website.
So i started typing jelly bean in the google toolbar and it auto-completed "jelly bean music video." Up popped about a million articles about a video this japanese-american singer/songwriter released a few months back featuring stop motion animation consisting of 288,000 Jelly Belly jelly beans.
Kina Grannis is her name. Couldn't come up with a good Titans connection, tho.
She did win the Doritos "Crash the Super Bowl" contest a couple years ago and as a result landed an Interscope recording contract and had her music featured in Doritos commercials during Super Bowl XLII. The Titans didn't play in Super Bowl XLII, but maybe by being in super bowl commercials her name was amongst the titans of advertising and what-not???
A stretch, I know, but check out the music video anyway if you'd like. It's damn cool.
Upcoming shows: Ryan Adams 1-25-12 Red Wanting Blue 1-28-12 The Black Keys w/ The Arctic Monkeys 3-??-12

1) Name amongst the Titans: They frequently perform with/collaberate with some of the biggest names in their genre. Also, the capitalized Titans could be a reference to their song lyrics for Proceed hiding the real meaning:
"I can make Conan and the Titans clash I can Metallica and guns 'N Roses crash"
2) Roots are also vegetables. Potatoes come to mind. They can be crispy when fried and soft when mashed or baked. Would apply to several other root vegetables.
Do not see tour dates, but they did just release an album on December 6.
my first thought was the alabama shakes. shakes come in flavors and they can be crunchy depending upon ingredients, however, i think he said not ice cream the titan could be alabama since they just wont a title didnt they and the def of titan is

If we're going with the "whirl" hint from Bonnaroo's Twitter, then I would definitely lean in the direction of a shake, or maybe a margarita? Both have to be "whirled" in a blender of some sort. 'Rita can be crunchy or smooth depending upon whether or not it's on the rocks. Shakes can be crunchy when bits of your choice are left unblended.
Obviously, it's Jimmy Buffet!! I kid, I kid...
If we're going for literal flavors, margarita flavors are typically lime, strawberry, mango. Shakes are typically chocolate, strawberry or vanilla. Can anybody come up with anything on that? Is this too literally/ too far-fetched?
Titan is a moon of Saturn. Can also be.... 1. Classical Mythology . a. any of the sons of Uranus and Gaea, including Coeus, Crius, Cronus, Hyperion, Iapetus, and Oceanus. b. Also, Ti·tan·ess. any of the sisters of these, including Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Rhea, Tethys, Themis, and Thia. c. any of the offspring of the children of Uranus and Gaea. 2. the Titan, Helios. 4. ( usually lowercase ) a person or thing of enormous size, strength, power, influence, etc.: a titan of industry. 5. Military . a two-stage, liquid-fueled U.S. intercontinental ballistic missile in service since the late 1950s and designed for launch from underground silos.
There are lots of references to titans in Sailor Moon culture, as well.
A few titans that are linked to the music industry...
Gaia: James Taylor has a song titled Gaia on Hourglass
Atlas: a single from the album Mirrored by Battles
I realize I don't give any real answers, but I feel like if we all keep throwing out our info/ideas then it will come to someone.
Has Hot Chip been ruled out. I saw that someone suggested them earlier. Chip could obviously fit into the flavour portion of the clue. As for the Titan aspect, I'm not entirely sure. However, check out the cover of their latest album... maybe the head of the statue is a Titan?

"The Muses They are the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne. They are known for the music of their song, which brings joy to any who hear it. There are nine Muses, each with her own specialty: Clio (History), Urania (Astronomy), Melpomene (Tragedy), Thalia (Comedy), Terpsichore (Dance), Calliope (Epic Poetry), Erato (Love Poetry), Polyhymnia (Songs to the Gods), Euterpe (Lyric Poetry)."
Polyphonic Spree
Polyhymna (song for the gods)
Whats your flavor? Meaning which of the 9. Well, Polyhymnia is for songs.... Spree is also a candy with many flavors...
According to this article, Nashville is sometimes called the "Athens of the South". Also the Tennessee Titans got there name because of this and that fact that there is a replica of the Parthenon in Nashville. Shelly being the name part of the clue and "Athens" being where the Titans are.
ok my last attempt to connect this clue to Keep Shelly in Athens, I promise
There is a company called Athens Foods that make mini fillo shells(Shelly) that come in a variety of flavors. Shells could also be either soft or crunchy.

a person of exceptional importance and reputation
Alabama Shakes have already been confirmed, so hopefully that's not who they're hinting at.
7/20 Firefly 7/31 Dr. Dog 8/1 Old Crow Medicine Show 8/18 MMJ w/ Band of Horses 9/5 Patrick Watson 9/14 Garbage 9/19 Glen Hansard 9/25 Stars 9/26 Fiona Apple 10/2 First Aid Kit
That might be the case too. I'm just re-reading his tweets and while he isn't saying we're on the right track he's not really saying we're wrong either:
first tweet was "You best check yo-self before you wreck yo-self. RT jackson: It's Battles. Step the clue game up, Chardonnay." The "check yourself" comment could just be a little joke because the kid who tweeted @ him was really cocky about getting the answer.
Then he "wonders why everyone thinks the flavor is ice cream" which could just be an attempt to throw us off. He doesn't say that the flavor doesn't refer to ice cream. I would think that if we really did get both of these first clues so quickly, he'd want to at least give us the runaround until the 3rd clue is primed and ready to drop.
Since the second tweet I'm definitely more open to other answers but Battles just makes too much sense. I guess we'll see though.
