Who buys a Bonnaroo ticket from a scalper? Seriously? Has anyone ever heard of this?
There're always a few people trolling the traffic line trying to sell a ticket or two. Always thought they got stuck with an extra 'cause a friend couldn't make it.
I always thought those were people just looking to unload and selling at face value. So some of those people walking along the interstate are jacking up their price?
IIRC Coachella did have some scalping issues which helped lead to the sellout
I see. But it didn't shut down the selling, right? People weren't having the same amount of problems buying tickets were they? I don't know anything about Coachella sales.
No but that's probably because they actually had their shit together unlike Bonnaroo who was just totally unprepared.
Tickets purchased from people trolling the traffic line are probably negotiable, going for more or less the face value.
Oh ok. What I meant by buying from a scalper is buying from a secondary ticket company like Stub Hub and those types where the price is marked up considerably. To me, that's a scalper.

Wasn't the whole idea of a twin concert because ticket scarcity was bidding up the resale price of tickets?

I don't understand why they have so many pages to go through when buying the ticket. The "City/State button" is ridiculous too. That's all that killed me - the loading of page after page after page.
I wouldn't buy a festival ticket from a scalper and I generally avoid scalpers for everything. The only times I've gotten them is when a group of me and my friends go to a show and only one of them doesn't have a ticket....then we look for people that have extras outside the venue.
I HATE scalpers. Scum of the earth IMO. I'm all for capitalism, and making a buck but these bottom feeders deprive true fans of opportunities to see bands or events they love.
CSB Time\ Me and 2 friends found out that The Avett Brothers were going to play at the historic Ryman auditorium in Nashville on Halloween (it was the first time they played there). Of course the tickets sold out within minutes and we were'nt able to score any. But we said fuck it, we'll go anyway, more tickets are always released the day of a show so we'll just show up bright and early at the box office and purchase the tickets when it opens. Major fail, we were informed that no further tickets would be released, the show was sold out.
We discussed it and decided we would see if we could buy from a scalper. The face value of the ticket was $25, plus ticketmonopoly's "you will suck it 'cause we're a monopoly" fee made the ticket cost about $35. We show up and there is only 1 scalper with 3 tickets and he wanted $90 per ticket. A 2nd scaper had only 2 tickets and was charging a more "reasonable" price of $75. We decided to try and wait the $90 guy out, figuring when the show started he would be forced to come down on his price rather than eat the ticket. So we camped close to him and waited.
Visibly annoyed by us "vultures" cramping his style he eventualy walked over to us and with undisguised sarcasm said "You know...maybe you should go wait by the will call, sometimes people's freinds don't show up and they'll have an extra ticket. MAYBE you guys will get LUCKY if you wait OVER THERE!"
He was being an a**h@le but he could be right. So we walked over to will call, keeping an eye on his location, and it happened...A girl walked up asking "Anyone need tickets", I pounced and said yes. She handed me 2 tickets and as I was pulling out my wallet she said "thanks" and just walked away! She THANKED ME!! Our 3rd man found a ticket shortly after when he overheard someone talking on the phone with a freind who wasn't going to make it. That night was pure magic! And I hope that scalper choked on those tickets while eating them!

It was horrible web design. Hopefully they learned their lesson. I'll be sure to fill them in on my 2 cents during the exit survey later this year.

What was this thread about?
Fans often come through in these situations thankfully. When McCartney came to Nashville a couple years ago, a buddy of mine and I went downtown with no tickets. I ended up scoring 2 for $100 a piece from these random fans who had extras. They were $250 a piece at face value. We ended up sitting on the 3rd row! Needless to say, that was a wonderful evening.

Insider signed on at 8:58 today. I'm bummed out I didn't see that she was on then, because I could have posted something really profound to catch her attention.
I.E. INSIDERRRRRRRR or NEIL YOUNG PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
yeah, i hope the fact she keeps coming back indicates that they are still in talks with NY&CH. i'm really really REALLY trying to not get my hopes up though.

You've got to think that there may be another top ten act that has yet to be announced. It brings me back to her comment about how we would be shocked to know what has yet to be worked out...

This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
So insider.. Help us out on the 2nd round announcement. Will there be an additional HL announced? Anymore rap (would love some OFWGKTA, ASAP Rocky, Theophilus London) Any metal (lacking on the card this year) Thanks
If you hate scalpers, you're doing it wrong. Go to a show and like two minutes before the openers go on, offer the scalper less than he paid for it. He'd rather get the 20 dollars in hand for a 30 dolar ticket then walk home with a piece of paper. Market value is what you make it. Simple economics people!

My opinion is that a lot of those people walking along the road selling tickets are actually undercovers. Didn't some one say something about in 09 how everyone wearing Mardi Gras beads walking down the interstate was undercover. I mean honestly, look at the way these people look. Do they honestly look like they would attend Bonnaroo or have the patience to come to TN to sell tickets to a festival that isn't sold out? Regardless, it doesn't bother me. In fact in 2010 I actually sold an extra to one of them.

You won't see another insider post until we are trying to figure out the 2013 lineup, dvd there is no way another headliner is announced.
That top three is pretty laughable...but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be slightly interested in seeing Third Eye Blind, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and The Fray.
