What an idiot! I'm sorry- But I agree with the many other posters that said it.. How can you go to some "foreign" place, and not do research? Obviously TN is going to be a LOT different than freaking Columbus. People like this blow my mind.. How can you even bash something that you don't understand? That's what I think of all that nonsense. She just doesn't get IT. Ya- you have to walk to centeroo, thats a part of it. Ya it's HOT. Thats a part of it. There's lots of people. That's a part of it. there's barely any room to camp, that's a part of it. It's ALL what we cherish, and LOVE about Roo(kinda, haha)
Like did she even look up ANYthing on it before she went or was just like "oh Bonnaroo- cool, lets go!"

Madman Pondo Wed Mar 28 2012 11:33 Wow,,,First off, there are sites such as my personal fave Inforoo that will get you READY FOR BONNAROO! Now, let me blow holes in your story.
First off, if you camp in Tent Only, you have a very close walk to Centeroo so you can return to your camp as much as you like. This option is FREE (Meaning it does not go on your ridiculous budget you posted). Had you scouted out other sites or planned ahead, this could have easily been your option. In other words, you were wrong on this one.
Second, You can see many shows if you plan ahead. This whole idea that you cannot get close is BEYOND ignorant. Yes, if it is the headliner, it would be impossible, but MANY shows I have attended at Bonnaroo I have gotten extremely close (Once even to the rail). If you know your schedule, this can be addressed. In other words, you were wrong again.
Third...Sleeping past 8 a.m. can be done easily. It is called an EZ-UP. Had you planned ahead (inforoo.com I PROMISE you that everything you need will be covered SEVERAL times) this could have been solved as well. In other words, wrong yet again.
Fourth, Did you try to go to late night acts, where the temps were MUCH cooler? I did and saw AMAZING shows.
Finally, I wear an OUTFIT the entire time at Bonnaroo (Viking Horns and a clock...check out Madman Pondo on Inforoo for pictures) so if ANYBODY can tell you how hot it can get, it is me...if you had just planned ahead, understand that it is a festival with a lot of people, invested in a camelbak (Inforoo.com would have helped with this), paced yourself, you could have easily had a MUCH better time. BTW...it was MUCH hotter and more HUMID the year before you went!!!!

If that's her idea of hell, I wonder how she'll handle finding employment, dealing with a family member's illness, coping with the justice system, weathering a bad storm in a boat at sea, having a pet put to sleep, or any one of a dozen other things. Hope she has a better time with something like that than she did with Bonnaroo.

Wow, real glad I just read this. Super informative. Although I'm generally pretty sympathetic to newbies who can't handle the heat (despite my preparations I certainly wasn't expecting it my first year) the recommendation that people go to Lolla instead is just hysterical. Chicago in August can easily be just as hot, without the benefit of late nights. The couple Lolla's I've been to, but the time it gets cool enough for you to feel like a human being again, shows are over and it's time to go home.
Brilliant? It's a rambling mess of whine. It doesn't do much for her case. I agree Bonnaroo isn't for everyone. I stick to my 'Roo crew for a reason. What her argument is lacking is persuasion to her cause by her ultimate bitterness towards the festival.
We like it hot here in TN! Guess Ms. Katie won't make it back to the farm...I sure do hate that. What an idiot. Like many before me have said, preparation is the key. Yes, it is hot. It is suppose to be. It's June in TN!!! I saw not one sickly person on the farm last year, guess they were all near Ms. Katie. Can someone explain to me why a large group of people is required? I go with a friend of mine and we do just fine. We meet new people (neighbors, etc) and have a blast.
I truly hate that she didn't have a good time but that is solely her fault. No preparation and a bad attitude. I hate that this article is even out there because it could discourage newbies from attending, preventing them from experiencing what we all have from Roo.
