Tasti beach cafe in Miami beach. Great vegetarian place for breakfast. Speak to the manager Ari, who is a regular add bonaroo and a lurker here on inforoo. I highly recommend the stuffed French toast, and the chocolate chip pancakes.

Ann's Snack Bar in Atlanta, GA. Home of the Ghetto Burger, which a Wall Street Journal writer called the best burger in America a few years back. That's probably going a little too far, but it's still one hell of a burger.
The Ghetto Burger is two massive patties cooked slowly on an ancient, greasy flat top. If you order it with onions, they fry those up with the patties. It comes with deep fried bacon and chili. The Hood Burger is the same thing, just add slaw. This isn't the kind of place where you order a medium rare burger with bone marrow on top, it's where you go when you want a couple slabs of beef that have been simmering in grease for 10 minutes.
The place operates on an "8 stools, 8 rules" policy. There are 8 stools along the counter, and if you aren't seated at one of those stools, you can't order. Not even for takeout. Other rules include no profanity, no babies on the counter, things like that.
I live dangerously close to this place, but the wait times are long enough that the temptation isn't too horrible.
No joke, if you will take me on a food tour, I will book a weekend trip to Chicago this fall!
That is a great idea and makes me jealous as hell. Chicago is a wonderful place full of good food and music and certainly worthy of a food tour. If you do it post your exploits. At least the ones you can post.

Not even 2 miles from my house is THE best Mexican food you will ever come across.
Located in a moribund strip mall in Tucker GA (North East metro Atlanta) they make everything in house. Guack, sauces, refried beans, everything is made from scratch with the exception of the cheese. Anyone that comes to visit me will take a trip here because it's it's...I honestly can't find the words!

I live just southwest of Decatur, so I gotta make it OTP to give this a shot. As far as Mexican food, contemporary though it may be, I'm a big fan of El Myr in Little 5 Points. Plus they did this awesome ad with Brent Hinds from Mastodon:

Better than in Mexico?
I've spent a good bit of time south of the border when I was staying in El Paso TX and YES! It's as good or better than anything I've had. The place is a must if you're in the ATL area.

It's soo worth it! El Myr is pretty awesome, love that place. You should totally check out Holy Taco in East Atlanta walking distance from The Earl and 529 their sword fish tacos are divine and last I knew they serve Boulevard Tank 7 Ale which is IMO the best beer around.
This place isn't anywhere near us but we ran across it during a gas stop last year on the way to Roo. Awesome find in Munfordville, KY and if you happen to be in the area check it out. There are only a few tables inside but the back has a parking lot big enough for all the truckers passing through which are many. They are always on the CB trolling for the truckers to come on in.
