Wow, they've threatened to do it several times, but Coachella has finally jumped the shark. Taken individually, the performers are not too bad, but to put them together and call it Coachella is a shock.
Only two wows, as far as I'm concerned: The Postal Service... and Sparks. For those to be the "wow"s, that's pretty sad.
Normally I think you're one of the better posters around here, but this is the worst thing you've ever said.

Again, I'm going to say that the only thing I don't like about this lineup is RHCP. I think it's pretty clear that they are the last minute replacement for the Rolling Stones/other "big" headliner that fell through. As the headliners are opposed, I really couldn't care less.
This MIGHT be one of the deepest lineups I've ever seen. Friday and Saturday are nothing but potential conflicts, in particular. The main complaint from people who aren't bros or Phi (too much cheese EDM) has been taken care of. I love that they threw Blur/Stone Roses as Friday headliners - both are phenomenal bands deserving of that slot.
Day by day, this is who I'm stoked for:
Friday: Blur Stone Roses YYY Modest Mouse Jurassic 5 Grinderman How to Destroy Angels Passion Pit Band of Horses Beach House Metric Local Natives Of Monsters and Men Infected Mushroom Japandroids Divine Fits Four Tet (!) Aesop Rock Alt-J Jello Biafra TNGHT (!) Earl Sweatshirt Polica Purity Ring Lee Scratch Perry Jamie xx (f*ck yes!) Youth Lagoon Beardyman the Neighborhood
Saturday: The xx Postal Service Sigur Ros Hot Chip Grizzly Bear Descendants (!) Moby Yeasayer Violent Femmes Simian Mobile Disco Spiritualized Cafe Tacvba Bat for Lashes Richie Hawtin Foals Booka Shade (!) El-P Pusha T (didn't see this coming) the Evens Biffy Clyro Bauuer Action Bronson Savages Kurt Vile the 2 Bears Vintage Trouble
Sunday: Nick Cave Vampire Weekend Wu-Tang Clan Eric Prydz Tame Impala The Lumineers Dead Can Dance James Blake (!) the Faint Dinosaur Jr. Raider Klan OMD Roni Size Father John Misty Tanlines Rodriguez Disclosure Cloud Nothings Thee Oh Sees Jooris Vorn Ghost (!!!)
That's 78 acts. And I haven't even gotten into the ones I'm unfamiliar with.
I think youre list is great if Coachella is the only fest youre going to all year. The lineup is full of "festival whores" or names you'll see all over festivals this year.
And clearly you aren't a rapist (I hope) but the way you pop into any thread where a woman happens to be lamenting her lack of ride to Bonnaroo and tell them to come hop on your bus sounds extremely rapey.

Really? I'll agree with you on that with a handful of the bands that you see in lines 1-3, but I think a large majority of these acts won't do more than a festival or two here in the U.S. I'm curious as to who you think will be around a ton.

I don't know what to say because honestly I don't know or am familiar with the majority here. I am going to have faith in the unknown, and hope that as I dig through the undercards I will discover more new stuff that really catches my ear.
My first reaction is a little dissapointed, but that's because I always fear change. I am the kind of guy that never wants to change restaurants or waitresses. I like consistency. This lineup is REALLY going to make me step out of my comfort zone musically.
Maybe that's a good thing? All I know is, thank GOD this fest is in my backyard. Makes the choice easier.
I want to go see Two Chainz so bad. I would laugh the whole time. That guy cracks me up! 2 Chainz!
I really hope he's playing early and not conflicting with anything I really want to see. I agree he'd be hysterical. I actually heard that he's entertaining as hell live.

Dont get me wrong, theres definitly some "gets" that will only play a one off (stone roses, J5, Blur, Lou Reed etc.), but the second and third days almost read the gov. ball lineup (with the exception of the headlienrs). I feel like there are so many repeat names from other fests or bands that just finished up huge US tours. maybe this is a sign that Ive either oversaturated myself with live music to the point that Ive seen too much or Im getting older and it takes more to justify spending this much cash on a festival that Im only mildly interested when I know I can catch most of these names at a local venue or another festival
Just off the top of my head from your list: Nick Cave Lumineers Tame Impala Hawtin Grizzly Bear the XX Passion Pit of monsters and men Alt-J Purtiy Ring Beach House Local Natives Yeasayer Japandroids Dino Jr, Polica

Someone certainly has their panties in a bunch over a festival they weren't even considering attending.
1) Who said I wasn't considering attending? Why do you think I've been paying attention to this thread?
2) Why are you so defensive of the lineup?
1) Because based ont he type of music you've claimed to like repeatedly, over and over, there's no way they would put out a lineup you'd be a fan of. Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell aren't playing a fest like Coachella. And plenty of people on here pay attention to threads for fests they aren't attending, because it's interesting to see who's playing where.
2) Other side of the coin - why are you (and others) so critical of it?
Edit: Also, that's kind of just how I am. Despite my outward arsehole tendencies, I'm generally the guy who finds nothing but awesome stuff in any lineup. I'm usually the first person to "defend" Bonnaroo every year as well.

People who go to Coachella will have an awesome time and see a ton of great music. Same for most other festivals. I hope the headliners hear the talk of "weak top acts" and play the hell out of their sets and blow people away. I won't be there but I'm sure it'll be a great weekend (either one). I just hope Roo has a few of the acts from the undercard as well.
I knew I could count on Juggs to be fired up for Ghost.
Dude, I saw Ghost last spring and they were amazing. All at once they were just flat out good (great heavy metal/hard rock) and hilarious (everything about them).

Exactly. They take the image so serious. Just watch the video where they played outside early during that same tour in Atlanta. They were still into being dark and serious despite the sun being fully out.

How you feel about my post is how I feel about Coachella 2013. Thanks for expressing it so concisely.

In case you didn't know, they recently got a new lead singer: "Papa Emeritus II," who replaces "Papa Emeritus." I'm pretty sure it's the same guy.

1) Right, because I haven't repeatedly claimed to like The National, Anais Mitchell, and a whole other cast of acts. You would know that if you strayed from the most visible threads, but then your trolling wouldn't get the attention you crave, so I understand your confusion. By the way, does Lou Reed know that Dylan types don't usually play Coach?
2) Because few people seem to be truly impressed by the lineup. Sure, there are some acts that would be fun to see, but as an overall festival, especially a major one, it's obviously sub-par to many people's expectations. Even those who live nearby are saying they're only going because of that fact.
Edit: Also, that's kind of just how I am. Despite my outward arsehole tendencies, I'm generally the guy who finds nothing but awesome stuff in any lineup. I'm usually the first person to "defend" Bonnaroo every year as well.
My take on Coachella is an opinion, and yours is an opinion, but the above statement is fact. Respect.

I'd be mildly surprised if these were the only 2 US performances for both The Stone Roses and Blur. It makes sense that Grinderman is a one-off. They were on hiatus, but all the members are Bad Seeds anyway, so Coach offered them more cash to get an exclusive. The other two have played plenty of European dates already and could make a nice payday with just a small run of dates surrounding Coachella.
This is definitely not a bad lineup, but it's the first time I haven't been green with envy over a Coachella announcement. It helps that I already have a Nick Cave ticket for March, and that I don't care at all about the Postal Service or How to Destroy Angels.
Also, for those of you surprised at Wu-Tang's position on the lineup, look at their most recent tour dates. They weren't playing huge venues on their 2010 tour. I saw them at a 1000 capacity venue in Atlanta, and they didn't even sell it out in advance.

I was waiting for Pavement at the Main right next to the Outdoor and Phoenix's crowd absolutely dwarfed a reunited Pavement playing their first major show in a decade.
