All right.. it looks like it came from this thread: prince.org/msg/12/394370. And Jimmy Fallon mentioned something about a west coast tour on his show. Take it with a grain of salt. The festival is basically sold out minus a few luxurious camping options. I just don't see him being added at this point.
I don't see why they'd make an uber-expensive addition like Prince when the festival is already sold out. I mean, right?
I can't imagine it happening but if they wanted to stick it to other festivals it'd be an easy way to do it. "Yea....we sold out all our tickets....and we still added Prince".

I was talking to my friend that bought my coachella tickets about Prince rumor and he replied with:
Prince played 5 nights a week in the forum here a year or 2 ago so pretty much everyone saw him at least once. five nights a week for a month or two. tickets were $25 too. it was insane. yeh.. he played all those shows to help this old venue here. he's pretty amazing. he played multiple encores after the lights were on just kept coming out. I may go to bonnaroo.

I generally agree with this, but to play devil's advocate: There are still a good number hotel packages and VIP tickets left. Not a lot, but a good number. Presumably GV makes their biggest profit margin off those, so even with GA sold out they could still be well short of their revenue projection. Or, they could still have a lot of money left in the artist fee budget, thinking they'd be paying $5 million for the Stones and then paying $2 million for RHCP instead (those are made up numbers). Given that people are clearly disappointed with the lineup (wknd1 tickets are going for face on stubhub, wknd2 well below), it's not crazy to think they'd make some adds to drum up some interest.
All that being said, it's not gonna happen, but those are the arguments for it.

I don't think this makes any business sense.
I didn't say it'd make any business sense. But it was one of the only reasons I could think of. People still bring up every year how Prince was added late that year so if they did it again it'd keep people talking each year about a possible big late addition.

The fact that they did it before should be the #1 argument against it happening again.
Prince was added to my first Coachella because evidently Portishead wasn't holding weight (this was a lineup already featuring Roger Waters mind you). But that was in 2008.
It's a completely different festival these days. I wouldn't expect any additions.

Dude, Daft Punk and The Rolling Stones fell off. They replaced Stones with RHCP and bumped Phoenix up. They have enough money left over to convince Bowie to play, but he turned it down, so they're getting Prince.

This makes a whole lot more sense than the "Coachella sticking it to other festivals" or "to keep people talking" argument. I didn't realize there were so many VIP tickets left...in that case, I could see Coachella trying to drum up some extra sales with some additions. Still don't think it'll be Prince, and if there are additions, one would think they'd almost have to be announced in the next week or two.

I guess. I didn't view it that way but I can see how it'd make sense. I just figure if he's playing around that area around that time would Coachella simply say "Nah....we don't want/need him" or would they throw an offer his way? I legit do not know but I feel like any festival would take that shot. Sorta like Bonnaroo with Conan O'Brien. They lucked out that he lost his show and was touring the country with a big stage thing and just happened to be able to schedule it (I'm guessing here so could be wrong).
I assume Prince would take over Phoenix's spot if he were in fact added. I just don't think they would make a repeat addition like that. I mean there will already be a returning headliner from 2007. I doubt they'd make the exact move they made in 2008 by adding Prince considering they're typically about moving forward.
Say what? I don't see the parallel there, ITM. Conan wasn't even a late addition, was he? Wasn't he on the initial lineup?
Conan was most certainly an addition (meaning not with the initial). He lost the Tonight show at the end of January and then they put together the live tour since he couldn't be on TV. The tour was announced in March. Unless I'm remembering wrong he was an addition after the initial lineup.

Unless Bonnaroo was already sold out when they added Conan, I still don't really see its relevance in this argument...the argument is not that "Coach wouldn't make such a big addition," it's that "Coach wouldn't make such a big addition after already selling out." But, like I said, I wasn't aware there were so many VIP tix still available, so that changes things a little.
