I'll take Bob Dylan as the closer. I'm not really a big fan of his, but I've never seen him and I'd rather strike him off the list here than pay just to see him.

Bob Dylan is a bad choice for a fest closer. Bob Dylan is only good live for SOME Bob Dylan fans. I love Bob live, but he isn't meant for a festival setting.

I saw Dylan at Rothbury '09 and he played the sunday "closing set" (although there was some late night umphrey's after his set). It was not a good set. Honestly most of my camping group napped through sections of the set as we were pretty cashed from the whole weekend. Dylan is a legend no doubt, but his current show is not worthy of closing down a festival like hangout. I would not be happy to see him on the lineup.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

He was terrible at Bonnaroo 2004. That's the last time I have seen him, so maybe he got better. I could see him closing down the 2nd stage, but not the evening.
I saw Dylan when he played Pensacola in 98/99? That's experience is checked off the concert bucket list already and I have NO desire to experience it again...especially at Hangout Fest.
You're much better off going to see him by himself then.
At a fest like Hangout everyone will be ADHD and not into it at all, and people will def be talking loudly the entire show. To get anything out of a Dylan show you have to be able to pay extremely close attention to understand what he is saying. This isn't the easiest task to accomplish at a raging festival.
If you can understand him the payoff is awesome. He changes the lyrics to songs so you never know what he's gonna do. Tangled Up In Blue was changed, Simple Twist of Fate was different etc

I've thought about getting Dylan tickets before, but I've always been reluctant to pull the trigger on $50 when his live reputation is so...iffy. Hangout might not be an ideal setting, but its also way lower risk since he's just one part of a much larger bill.
I agree with Chaveznwo, he makes more sense closing out the second stage. He's a legend, but he still tours constantly and there's that general sense that he sucks live now.

I have seen Dylan four times. Two were pretty good to great (2000ish and 2008ish) and two were horrible (2004 and 2006ish). He no longer plays guitar, he reworks and rearranges every song to the point where most aren't that recognizable, and his voice is hit or miss (mostly miss). I love Bob Dylan, but his shows aren't that good anymore. It's more like going to a museum than seeing the Dylan of lore.

oh and he played the civic center in p'cola en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_Ending_Tour_2011 Chastain park is obviously an amphitheater, but even Phish plays those size venues sometimes. It'd be hard to fill an arena in B'ham or P'cola by ANYONE. And Chastain Park was probably chosen over Lakewood because it was a more appropriate venue for him.

Dylan would in no way not be a headliner. He is BOB DYLAN for christ sakes, no matter how horrible his current performances are, he is a legendary.
As an ATLien, Chastain is TINY, but it is the sought out venue for all "older artists" its f'n beautiful. Allman bros played there, Elton John, Tedeschi Trucks, BB King, Gov't Mule, Hall & Oates. It is in the middle of a hoity toity rich neighborhood and its an intimate venue, but its my least favorite because of the crowd it draws.
Phish plays MUCH bigger venues, they would sell out Chastain in a minute....its "lawn area" is literally 3 patches of grass that are about 20 feet each. People go there with coolers and sit down and drink wine (when i saw T Trucks band, nobody was dancing, it was so odd)
What is anyones thoughts on Eddie Vedder solo (lots of rumors for him last year) not as a headliner, but to take Chris Cornell's set time from last year? Is that too cliche to fill one 90's rock bands leaders spot with another '90's rock bands leader? I have not done any research on the matter, just throwing ideas around in my head

I don't think it would happen. Eddie did a southeastern solo tour after PJ wrapped up performances last year (or he was supposed to). Cornell was a "touring the right region at the right time" thing.

I was at that T Trucks band show there, it was def weird. The Furthur shows the day before and after were f'n amazing though, so I wasn't too upset about having a night to take it easy. =)

Agreed! Furthur was killer. We've probably seen each other somewhere, sounds like we have similar tastes!
WANEE's lineup dropped. Looks like I'm gonna be trying to make my way to the wonderful Live Oak again!
Has anyone gotten any info on the structure of this year's Thursday night pre-party? Is it the same as last year?
Also, are late night performances still not authorized? Something about EDM in a tent during the day doesn't quite do it for me.
Thanks in advance!
Skrillex during the day before Gogol was friggin great last year. It's a beach party, so get in that mindset and it works. Also, Shpongle was at night and was fantastic. They had the bass hitting so hard it hurt, and there was almost nobody at the show. We walked up and grabbed a rail spot half way through the show
EOTO would be a sick for the xbox tent, or even the thursday pre-party, but probably not in the "headliner" spot. Possibility since SCI was there last year, it would make sense.
