i could see if you posted something right after the current festival is over you might be able to plant a seed that has a remote chance of growing, but at this point in the game? yeah, your recommendations/requests are utterly futile.
Quick poll: Who would you guys rather have: Muse, Green Day, or Mumford?
I'd rather have Muse. I'm not a huge fan of any of the three bands, but I've seen Muse, and the light show is pretty spectacular. But if Muse played, I'd probably be at the EDM tent for Birdy Nam Nam anyway.
Honestly man? Can you read? I HATE FUN. But I thought I might have a scoop on them playing hangout.
And they would be top 6 or 7 at Hangout so I don't get where you're coming from.
Also - not to burst anyone's bubble on Tool but Sasquatch is announcing their lineup on 2/4. Gonna be interesting to see Hangout and Sasquatch duke it out over some major acts, haha.
Who said your troll was directed about Fun. It's clearly about the Hangout. Troll on though.
You REALLY misunderstood me. I said "sorry" because I think Fun suck. I haven't been to Hangout but I'm dying to go. They'd be top 7 or 8 at Roo, too. Drop the 'tude, weirdo.
Does anyone know why people think that putting band requests on FB's wall does anything? Its the stupidest shiz to me. "please book _______! I will be so HAPPY!" I just don't get it. It's so late in the game, and I really don't think that Hangout cares if this person will be happy or not. It makes no sense. Then you get this chick "I cant wait to see which bands are lucky enough to be on the lineup" wtf is this nonsense? Also, asking for an almost identical lineup as last year. NO. DMB will not be returning. Why do people post shiz like this? What do they think they are going to gain from this??
Had to rant. Maybe you feel the same way I do, maybe I am a moron.
Totally with you man. It's not that I hate it, it just feels so awkward. Like, cringe-worthy awkward.
Gophish, usually my presence IS an omen.....that its shiiiiiillllin time! Or time for an STD test.
I'm stoked for the announcement and seeing the requests, wishes and speculation is both fun and educational for us. Without you guys posting and making your voices heard, more fests would suffer. So keep it coming....
There is absolutely no evidence that Hangout gives any fvcks about booking metal. The only reason Motorhead was added late in 2011 is because they were touring with Foo Fighters. And Coheed last year falls under "dude rock." Sad but true. Luckily QOTSA is stoner dude rock so there is some hope there.

Tool could be a big get for a lot of festivals because I feel like they're still a very current act, compared to a lot of other options out there. Anybody else feel this way?
Petty, McCartney, and the Stones are definitely all classic rockers. I associate DMB, Soundgarden, and RHCP with the 90s... and I'm sure a lot of people put Tool in that category as well. But for me, they really peaked in 2006 when 10,000 Days came out! They were huge.
I guess what I'm saying is the more "current" headliners are very limited. The options for this year's festivals are Muse, Jack White, Mumford, Black Keys, and apparently Kanye. Tool could be a great option for a fest that doesn't want to book a bunch of 90's artists, ya know?
Haha this could be way off. I'm sure a lot of people associate them with the 90s. I just don't.
Tool's commercial peak was in the '90s, so I wouldn't consider them a "modern" headliner. They are a long running, popular rock band that has sustained their momentum, like Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, or RHCP. If Hangout does book Tool, you can still count on a Mumford or Muse on the top line.
Enough of that rambling, Boston Powers. Tool is a pipe dream that will probably NEVER happen at this fest. Also, I am pretty sure that an Ozzfest tour of the US is going to happen this year and that is the big announcement. Tool is going to tour the US with Black Sabbath. Let's just hope the Atlanta date is not on a fucking tuesday like Mayhem fest is this year. I seriously doubt that we'll get a New Orleans date too because whoever books for the NOLA Arena now don't give a fuck about metal fans.
Problem Dog nailed the top five about 4 pages ago: McCartney | Muse | Mumford | Trey Anastasio Band (2 sets) | The Avett Brothers We've all been pretty sure about this with the exception of the legend act for a while now. And I am very happy that McCartney is more likely than Petty.
If there's any hope for Tool playing a fest on the gulf coast it will be Voodoo fest. Which would make perfect sense this year if the Ozzfest thing actually happens and NOLA gets skipped.

None of you guys are concerned that this lineup is way bigger than previous years? I hope you're right, but I'd advise managing expectations.
Mumford will announce 5 of their Gentleman of the Road mini-fests on Tuesday, 3 of them in the US. That pretty much locks them in, right? They headline a few US festivals in May-June, play a few Gentleman of the Road dates, and then head back to Europe in June.
EDIT: Horn, I don't see that top 5 as that much of a leap, with the obvious exception of McCartney. Muse/Mumford is probably around the same price as RHCP/Jack White or Foo Fighters/WSP. TAB is comparable to SCI, who was 4th billed last year. The Avett Brothers are still solidly in sub-headliner status.
If you can get past the McCartney thing (which has been discussed to death at this point, I think Zislin would spend the cash), it's similar to the past 2 years. And I still think McCartney could easily be swapped with Petty or Dylan. Hangout has always spent a lot on the top 6-7 names, which is something people tend to forget.

If you swap Paul for Petty or Dylan I think this is right there. But Paul isn't even in the same stratosphere as those guys.
I'd also guess Muse and Mumford would cost more than RHCP and JW. Not unreasonably so, but still.

Yeah, I'm assuming that it wouldn't be profitable with McCartney on top. Shaul Zislin has deep pockets, and he wants Hangout to be considered one of the elite US festivals (which is probably impossible given its size and location, but that's what he's after). It's my opinion that he would be willing to spend the cash for McCartney if given the opportunity, and that's really the only reason I think McCartney is a possibility.
