If they get the right lineup, I think a No Limit set would be high energy the whole time with each rapper feeding off the other. Pusha T would be a nice add too.
As for the higher billed rap acts, I'd like to see Watch The Throne, Dre & Snoop or G.O.O.D. Music although they're all pretty unlikely.
I would say that A$ap Rocky's tour with Rihanna ends on 5/5 a full month before Roo, so A$ap Mob seems logical to me. El-P returning sounds pretty on point given how his year has gone, but he might be exhausted and working on new material at that point. Death Grips are free to do whatever they like it seems - considering how well received they were at Moog - it's an easy easy easy choice.
So I'm saying A$ap Mob & Death Grips for sure (can't pull the trigger on El-P)
I'm going to put it out there - I can't stand Death Grips. Not the music, but the attitude. The stunt they pulled with Epic was kind of d*ck. If you don't want a major label having a say in your record, DON'T SIGN WITH A MAJOR LABEL. The whole thing seems less "revolutionary" or "punk" and more "13 year old boy pissed off because Mom won't let him watch Game of Thrones."
But from someone who doesn't even want to create music right now because the utter lack of upward mobility... F the labels. Sure they acted like kids about it, but it seems like two traversing projects and minds that just.. didn't know how to handle the situation.
I'll admit, I use to listen to Hella and I'm an addict for crazy drums.. the MC clearly has issues with connecting with the outside world. I don't know.. I can empathize.. especially when your chosen art form is still new to you. and as grimey as f$$$

That whole scenario seemed more like a ploy contrived by the label itself to me. The major label "fuck you" was well publicized and definitely made DG more popular. Epic likes.

I don't think they had any collusion.. in fact that's the problem, steady disconnection between artists and their labels. Sure [we'll] book you shows and give you money; but no sense of nurturing, family, or even them giving a crap until ish hits the fan? Publicity is just the counter-weight, and in the end they didn't lose too much in the deal; and if the Death Grips were a headache logistically.. can't blame em.

So somehow I missed this news at the beginning of the month but Epic actually dropped Death Grips from the label, ending any and all conspiracy theories regarding the NLDW leak. +1 DG

kendrick lamar needs to come back and do the whole good kid maad city (still feel sick for leaving his set and not knowing how talented he was last year) jay-z would definitely get me to buy a ticket to bonnoraoo no questions asked danny brown was the best rap act last year bar none outside of gza(i didnt see gza) joey badass would cool
pusha t is a dud live and has no stage presence
a lot of rappers yall hyped up last year were overrated to me ie blackstar and black thought

black thought?
The lead singer of the Roots. That statement is so outrageous I vote for immediate IP ban.
Yeah, that Danny Brown can BRING IT. Don't bother going to see the Roots or Black Star, listen to this guy rap about f*cking a corpse!
(for the record, I like Danny Brown quite a bit, but still....wtf)

Im not talking bout content im talking about energy, stage presence and crowd control.
i went to all three sets last year and danny brown had the best live rap show ...he has a lot more charisma than blackstar and black thought therefore keeping your interest.
i know he talks about crazy shit but never heard him talking about fucking a dead corpse

They do not have enough facepalm pictures on the internet for this post.
Black Thought is the lead singer/rapper of the Roots. Who have a tuba player running into the crowd, have songs stretching 2 decades that fans all know and love, have freestyles, a live band, etc. When someone says "Roots concert" one of the first things people think of is energy. What was so bad about Black Thought's energy, may I ask? Was he not smoking enough spliff? Not demanding the crowd "make some f*cking NOISEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" enough for you?
And the exact same could be said about Blackstar. The Roots & Blackstar have been performing live for over 40 years combined, I think that speaks more towards their energy and stage presence than the "lox" and his esteemed commentary.
I like Danny brown, I think he's a fairly talented young rapper who has a niche and unique voice/style that will lend him to be successful. But you just basically backhanded 2 of the greatest hip-hop acts of all time to compliment someone who's been in the game for less than 10 years and only a couple of those with any real buzz surrounding his name.

Sort it out, son.
I think
i dont care how long theyve been playing....for the hype they had , i was expected to be blown away. I think they have all the right elements in there show but it just went flat to me after the first 20 minutes. maybe its the sequencing of their songs.
Ok I finally found the hip hop thread. That being said, how much merit is given to the fact that ATCQ is playing the switzerland festival? Do we even begin to get our hopes up? And what's the possibilities for ryhmesayers? Atmosphere? Brother Ali? And can we almost guarantee that we'll get another of the three TDE fellas? I'm thinking Q is a very likely choice, especially if A$AP is there. They would definitely be able to perform together in one of their sets and that would be a pretty effective show. I know that's a lot of info, but I just found the thread, and hip-hop acts were my most seen acts at roo last year so I'm excited to actually find the thread.

i still cant believe i walked out kendrick last year thinking his show lame....i wasnt aware of his greatness
I was about 2nd row for Kendrick, and pre Good Kid Mad City was great, so I can ony imagine what it would be like with that material as well. He could easily come back though, so there's still hope my friend
FWIW I wasn't really blown away by Blackstar last year either. I'd even agree that Danny Brown had a more entertaining show. However I thought the Roots was one of the best shows of the weekend. I don't understand how anyone could have a complaint about lack of energy/stage presence from anybody in that group.
Also what kind of energy did take ?uestlove and the rest of the band to do the superjam with D'Angelo afterwards? That in itself was a great show as well.

Yeah honestly Black Star isn't that spectacular live. I saw them at Roo and a couple months before at the House of Blues. Not all that energetic or charismatic on stage, just 2 INCREDIBLY gifted MC's performing one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made and being very on-point with all their rhymes. But if you aren't a huge fan of the work then I could see not being to into the live show
But The Roots... HOW can you say they're "not energetic"?! That was the most bumpin' hip-hop show I have ever and will ever see, and I was at Jay-Z at Roo 2010 and Watch the Throne last year. But that Roots show was the type of show where even someone who doesn't listen to hip-hop would have an incredible time at. There were even 2 of those in my group. Black Star I understand to an extent but to say that The Roots "went flat" is just deplorable.

Kendrick wasn't that great live last year. He literally walked around stage blowing an airhorn in people's faces screaming about making noise for a solid 1/3 of the show.
I'm hoping he comes back because I haven't seen him live since then and I'm hoping he's realized he doesn't need to do that, he's not Solja Boy or one of these other talentless idiots who have to fill their show with that nonsense.
