I wish more people watched the Americans. It's the best drama on TV right now and has been excellent since the show started. I loved season 1 but season 2/3 have been so, so good. I would say this is a show for anyone who likes any type prestige TV. It has bits and pieces of all the great tv shows. It's like Breaking Bad in how plot groundwork is laid out only to be paid off many episodes down the road. It's like Mad Men in that the heaviest emotional moments are often from silence or facial reactions. It has just enough violence and occasional sex scene/nudity to satisfy people who like Game of Thrones. The show will use the plot of a standalone episode to be symbolic of much larger issues like the Leftovers or many of the other great dramas.
The show will add things to the plot and sometimes not touch it again for many episodes and then when it comes back in play it means so much more. Almost every episode involves some type of gutpunch that is well deserved and actually earned. Some shows like Sons of Anarchy introduce a character and you know they only exist to be a foil and eventually die, the Americans is very different from that. Family drama is somehow tied into the spying and vice versa. The acting is phenomenal and so are the wigs.
Definitely motivating me to make that my next series to start. I've just forgotten about it since it's on FX and they like to not be on Hulu. Will just need to torrent them and start.

Usually me and the lady have a good understanding with The Netflix. If either of us think the other would like a show, we dont watch it by ourselves. Usually shes watching some Vampire mumbo jumbo and I have a whole section of Kung Fu and Trailer Park Boys to keep me entertained endlessly. Finally get back to Mad Men tonight now that we finished HOC3.
Well wouldn't ya know I find out shes 4 episodes into Breaking Bad without me. Had to put a halt to all of that. That right there is a commitment I cant make until I wrapped all other series. Im thinking after this season of GOT if nothing comes between.

Just start watching Breaking Bad right now. It's better than any of those other shows you were about to watch.

Trying to stay up until the new season of Trailer Parks is on Netflix. Says online their releasing the episodes on the 27th but they don't give you a time.

I've wanted to watch it since it started but just never got around to it once I had missed the beginning of the series. I definitely plan on watching it at some point, as it looks really good and I usually love shit like that. How many seasons have they done so far?
Was the Leftovers any good? I got about halfway through it and kinda got bored and gave up but was thinking about binge watching it recently.
I think boring is a fair word for that show.
Some people loved it but most hated it. It was relentlessly depressing and the symbolism in that show was so overdone and excessively blunt at times. But when that show was good, it was really good. I will keep watching it to see what they do in season 2. They covered all the source material from the book in Season 1 so I am interested to see where they take it. If you watched the Carrie Coon/Nora Durst back story episode and were still bored, you probably won't enjoy the rest.
It might be better to binge in the spring than watch weekly in the winter. There were plenty of episodes that made me wonder why I was watching something so depressing right before starting a work week. Mad Men and Breaking Bad could be very dark or emotionally devastating but at least they had a sense of humor. The Leftovers is allergic to levity. I'd give it a B+ but would only recommend it to those who know they will be watching a very sad show.
Thanks for the reviews! I think I also kinda felt like it was going in the direction of Lost where they keep getting weirder without explaining anything that had already happened, but I never read the book so didn't know what to expect either. I'll definitely give it another shot... I think being able to watch it all in a shorter period of time rather than sitting through it week after week will make it easier for me to get through for sure. I will give my review when I'm done!
