I thought it was pretty fantastic. As someone noted back when everyone else watched it, it really is a movie that is best watched with as little preparation as possible. Even the poster that was used originally gave away more than I would have liked with the comparison to Exit Through The Gift Shop (if you haven't watched that yet, you should).
In regards to the actual case, it brings up an interesting conflict where everyone is full of it. The imposter obviously can't be taken at his word. They didn't touch on it as much during the movie, but it seems like the family is not really on the up and up either. I don't know if they killed the son, but there is no way that they didn't notice a difference in him. That kid had ultra blue eyes. Also, I refuse to believe that their years later guilt would allow them to swallow the idea that a secret multi-national military cabal set up an illicit sex trade in Spain and other European countries while also developing the chemical agents necessary to change both hair and eye color permanently. I understand that grief is a powerful thing, but that's just a step too far, so I think there is something else going on there.

I don't know that they outright murdered him but it feels to me that it is almost certain that the family was involved with his death. It could have definitely been an accident, and then they just got in too deep.
