^ Sometimes I feel that is intentional to spark heated debate. We had a couple of good ones here at a local station for awhile, but the radical right wingers ran them off the Or for more conservative talk.
In some cases it is absolutely intentional (like Mike Francessa trolling Jets/Mets fans every day).
In other instances it is complete, legitimate lack of knowledge (like Stephen A. Smith talking about anything besides basketball).
People who host sports talk radio shows tend to be the dumbest type of sports 'analyst,' and I'm using the word extremely loosely right there.
maybe. just saying a lot of professional athletes were saying exactly what I was saying about Howard. they don't respect him. Amani Toomer compared him to a child taking his ball and going home if he doesn't get his way and I agree with him.

I feel the same way about Skip Bayless. There is no way he actually believes half the things he says, but it gets everyone riled up

Amani Toomer once looked at my 6 year old brother (who had asked him for an autograph) and said...and I quote..."maybe if you change your f*cking jersey next time." He was wearing a Wayne Chrebet jersey. And, again, he was 6. This has nothing to do with your post, but just wanted to point out that Toomer is a god damn *sshole.
That's a cheap, effortless, and bullsh*t comment that Toomer made. They're just repetitive, recycled analyst words that carry no weight. What does Toomer base his theory on? Because the media already set this story up before any of it played out?
How did he "take his ball and go home?" He took less money to play somewhere (even after the income tax). He would have been 2nd fiddle in LA, he's 2nd fiddle in Houston...what's the difference? Besides him going from a psychotic super-competitor who will slit throats of his teammates if it gets him another title to a happy, fun-loving super-energetic player who doesn't mind sharing the ball night in and night out, that is.
It's nonsense, Sang. The national narrative is now that Howard is a petulant, spoiled d*ck. All based on a SINGLE SEASON where his own teammate openly talked sh*t about him, his coach sucked, his teammates were old and unfun....this is the only roster in possible decades that could make the LA Lakers a sh*tty experience. That was set in place before Dwight got to town.

I have a friend who was a producer at ESPN for a solid 5 years (plus some intern work).
These are his words (and he is the reasonable person I probably know): "Skip Bayless being allowed to influence the public opinion on sports should be a crime punishable by life imprisonment. Any one in this room could talk circles around him in a sports debate that wasn't structured so he'd always win (like First Take).

I do get the impression that Amani is a dick, that's messed up what he said to your little brother. but I agree with all of them about Howard, he's a big baby, he's a brat. so I don't have a problem with what he said. so you're saying that it's bad that Kobe will do anything to win? he's driven and when he tried to push little Dwight, he took his ball and ran.
There's a difference between Michael Jordan screaming at players in practice about mistakes and Kobe Bryant trashing a teammate to the national media after a game.
What Jordan did kept the mutual respect intact since what he was doing couldn't be taken as Jordan belittling the guy in front of a crowded arena. Kobe did not have that same consideration.
If you're playing sports as a little kid, do you do better when the coach takes you off to the side to have a stern talk or if he blew up on you in front of the entire team?
Sang, you've repeated your same nonsensical points a few times now. They're clearly not your points, you're just adhering to a narrative that you liked. What about when Dwight played through significant shoulder pain to carry that 2008-2009 team to the Finals (by beating the #1 and #2 seeds in the East, mind you)? He seemed to give a sh*t then, didn't he?
He's not an apathetic super athlete who couldn't care less about winning. He didn't like LA, why is that so impossible to grasp?

they said what I was already thinking. so I posted it here to see if anyone else is thinking that way. this guy, imo should be hated far more than Lebron is/was. and I would almost wager that he's never going to win.

I agree he should probably catch more sh*t than LeBron did, but the whole "he isn't a 'winner'" thing is just moronic. Did you watch the 2009 playoffs? That isn't a rhetorical question. His best teammate missed half the season and his second best teammate was...Rashard Lewis? Hedo? I don't even know. That team should not have won 59 games.

Explain the reasoning behind the Lebron comment, please. Not that I think any athlete should be hated unless he's on some Aaron Hernandez sh*t, just curious why you think a guy who opted out of a deal and signed a new deal elsewhere with a BETTER TEAM for LESS MONEY is such an awful person.

explain to flanzo why he deserves more shit than Lebron. he's not getting it when I say it. as far as him not being a winner. I'm not denying that he's an incredible talent. I think that's part of the issue, he naturally has all this ability. but he's such a big baby. as far as that series 4 years ago,I did watch, but I can't honestly say I remember it. who was the best team they had to face?

Omg Sang, shut up, for the love of god.
What makes him a baby? Besides your out-of-touch view from 2,000 miles away and what ESPN is telling you to feel?
Separate question. Pretend Dwight Howard doesn't exist. The Lakers as they're currently constructed and the Rockets without Howard....who is better in 2013?

if Kobe and Gasol are healthy, Lakers are better.
And if Joe Namath had healthy knees, the Jets would have a good QB. Back in the real world, Kobe tore his achilles tendon in mid-April, that is a 12-month recovery if everyone goes well. So, cross his name right off that list. I'll give you Gasol, if you want, but it shouldn't make a difference without Kobe.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.

What about the rest of the roster? The bench? Really?

Rockets are younger and deeper. but if Kobe and Gasol were at their best the Lakers could still beat the Rockets in a series. Houston finished 8th this year? I think Howard moves them up to 4th or 5th.

That's great, because the Lakers had the same record as the Rockets with Kobe, Pau and Howard.

Kobe and Gasol were not healthy all year (and you're right they may never be again) and Howard was more of the problem than the solution there. before we get it too mixed up, let me say I'm not expecting the Lakers to win anything. maybe they could have if they had put it all together with Howard. but I'm also not expecting Houston to be better than 4th in the West.

You make it seem like finishing behind OKC, San Antonio and Memphis would be a negative, those are all fantastic teams.
The Lakers are battling to even make the playoffs this year, with Dwight they're a solid 7/8 seed. With Dwight letting Harden, Parson, Lin & Co. get one-on-one's and open looks, they're a solid 5-6 seed with potential to be better.
If put in Dwight's position I'd have taken Houston over LA in a nanosecond.

I think you're both sort of underrating Houston to be honest. If Howard plays like he did just a couple years ago they have two of the best ten or so players in the NBA. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they finish top two in the West.

Howard doesn't deserve any hate for picking Houston over the Lakers. I understand if there are ill feelings from the way he handle his departure from Orlando (and Van Gundy's departure).

Trying to go conservative here. Memphis still has the advantage on the inside (Gasol is a big galoot that can neutralize Howard) and the Spurs are getting written into a top-4 seed until they don't make a top-4 seed haha.
I think Houston has the makings of a very good team, just keeping my prediction on the low side.

so we agree that this isn't bringing Houston any championships. this started because @tejas said to go ahead and give them the championship and I asked if he was joking.
