Re: Bands that (probably) won't be playing roo 201 « Reply #172 Yesterday at 6:34pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Best Coast is a no. Just talked to there management.
This was posted in the Bands that (probably) won't play Roo thread. I don't know if you want to add Best Coast to the confirmed not going to be there list.

Seems more like they can't play it for some reason. They say "I wish we COULD". Could also mean that they can only play when asked by the festival itself.

Well duh. How else do bands play the festival unless they are asked to play by the festival itself?
Booking agencies always offer bands available during that time period. I think the top 20-40 is chosen by the festival and a lot of bands billed below that are mostly artists that are available and offered by agencies.
Agencies send lists of available bands to the festival where they choose from. When a small band without label or small label wants to play a festival like Bonnaroo, they wait for the festival to book them.
Like I said last year. Every year Bonnaroo has at least a certain amount of bands from a few main agencies they work with. They probably have deals with them like a 3 year contract where they at least have to book +/- 15 bands a year from that agency.
Also a lot of bands come in package deals like Foster The People and The Kooks last year.

Still...the festival has to book them/ask them even if they are given a list to choose from. My point is that it's too early for a band like that to know so it seems they are waiting to be asked to play.
Also where did you get this info? Is it something official you've been told or is this something you're just guessing?

I helped organising a festival a couple of times. I've seen some lists. Agencies ALWAYS try to offer you packages where you book 2 for the price of 1 just like walmart.
Makes sense as if they sign a new band, no festival wants them unless they come free with another more known band.

Yea, I get that they will offer packages and things like that. It makes sense. I just was wondering if you knew anything about Bonnaroo specifically and that they only book the top 20 acts or something like that. Perhaps they don't do it the same way as the festivals you helped book? I wish I knew.

I wish I knew too, but I can't imaging Bonnaroo choosing all their bands before knowing they're available or not. Top 20 yes, top 40 maybe, but lower than that I can't imagine Bonnaroo paying more for bands who have nothing planned or have other plans. Off course there are exceptions, but I can't imagine Bonnaroo wanting to book all 150 bands without getting them offered.
If you don't want click the links...basically a blogger that supposedly predicted the headliners last year came out and said that Tom Petty and the Wu-Tang Clan would be headlining this year and that ZZ Top would be playing, but not for sure if consider a headliner.
Just wanted to share, looked through the thread and didn't see anyone talking about it.

There was much discussion about it in the Headliners thread. The guy basically read a few pages of Inforoo, then posted about it on his blog - standard practice for journalism these days I guess.

I see, just wanted to share.
Did he get the headliners first last year, or was that false?
You'll probably be able to find 3-4 different blogs claiming the same. I found one where Weeping Elvis was being praised for predicting a second year in a row. The author name of that article was Weeping Elvis. A poor attempt at fame chalked up to lazyness.
Can we please take a break with this until Christmas or something?
Seriously. I understand we are all anxious but bands aren't even being contacted yet. At least...the bands that we'd be able to get info from. Headliners are probably set or negotiating. Most of the smaller bands are probably still working on putting together spring and summer shows.
Not like your whining is going to do anything to stop me from doing what I'm doing. Have fun being a les miserables bitcher though. lol.
I'm really looking forward to Les Miserables. I smell some Oscar buzz. Except for Russel Crowe....he sounds weird as Javert in the stuff I've heard already.
People were merely suggesting a more productive time to do it, not criticizing.
You will know when people are criticizing because it will likely include terms like: d*ckhead, imbicile, prick, mouthbreather, dave matthews fan, or other objective descriptions of you.
