Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
What do you think his endgame is for all this? For posting the info that he has?
No idea at all
Yea i'm just trying to figure out why he would lie about something like this. If he's lying and trying to impress us that makes no sense as we'll all tear him apart when Rolling Stones aren't on the lineup. If he's trying to troll us so we believe the Stones will be at Roo he's doing a bad job since he's said "Of course it does not prove that they are performing at Bonnaroo" and clarified that he just believes they will based on what he was told. If he is being trolled by the people he works for then his only real crime is being naive. If this is all some huge Manti Te'o style hoax and none of it is real then I feel bad for the guy lol. Too much time on his hands.
I'm with Karosko and others that have felt he isn't lying about them trying to get the Stones but that nothing else (exclusivity clause, being told by a higher-level person who may or may not be messing with him) really proves they'd be at Roo
If you look back I said the reason the declined us was because they were under contractual obligations and could not perform on the dates of Riverbend. Look at the exclusion clause. I guarantee that Bonnaroo has one in there contracts which is very similar. Here is how it works when booking an artist. 1. you get a quote 2. you make and offer usually over phone or email 3. you mail a hardcopy to the booking agent confirming the email or phone offer 4. They accept it or reject it. If accepted a detailed contract is worked out. Of course it does not prove that they are performing at Bonnaroo. But knowing the they are doing festivals and there is definitely going to be a performance in east tennessee. Plus The entertainment manager here told me they accepted an offer from Bonnaroo. Thats all I'm going to say about it. The line up drops soon and all will be revealed.

For those balking at the offer amount. Riverbend is a non-Profit organization. Most festivals are, it makes it easier to get sponsors and accept donations. It also makes it easier to book acts for a lot less than normal since artists can use the difference as tax write-offs. I said this earlier I think. We booked Moon Taxi for $3,500 when normally the quote $7,000-$10,000.
I really don't know for sure if the Stones are playing Bonnaroo. I mainly posted that offer to prove to some of you that we were speaking to the Stones. They declined not because of the low-ball offer but because of contractual restrictions.(If I can get that email I'll post a screen shot) We can all agree they are playing festivals. Those two points coupled with what I was told about them accepting an offer from Bonnaroo leads me to the very likely conclusion that they are playing Bonnaroo.
This is all assuming I'm not being quacked with at work. We're five months from opening, running around like chickens with our heads cut off getting things together. I don't believe the entertainment manager, which is probably the most hectic position, would take time to quack around with me. I heard him bitch out a booking agent at Paradigme today for trying to jerk him around. He is not the type to just razz people like that.
Maybe Riverbend was trying to book a half-set or something of the such for a cheaper price. Think of it like a "DJ Set" for the stones. Some bigger names do shiz like that at festivals occasionally. They don't have their entire stage set-up, no need for as many roadies, maybe play only a half hour to an hour, and they get paid accordingly. If it's a pitstop between two bigger venues, why not bank a few extra bucks and let your road crew enjoy the festival for the weekend?
(I'll look for any excuse for the Stones to be at Bonnaroo)
Hey guys! Wondering if anyone has heard anything about Amon Tobin? I know he's playing at Wakarusa a few weeks prior, I would love to see ISAM live at 'Roo, though I don't know where they would set it up except the Which Stage, which is not where I like my late nights.
Just registered here, been to 'Roo 3 times ('09, '11, '12) and am very excited for my fourth. Seeing PL on the confirmed list makes me even more excited.

Hey mhortonable, thanks for trying to contribute to the discussion and for following up with it when people called you out on everything. I don't know exactly what to make of it but it has been entertaining to watch.
I would recommend you not post such detailed stuff on the internet relating to your professional life any more though. If anyone at Riverbend saw this thread I guarantee they would know who you are in a second or at least have a very good guess. That may not be a big deal at your current job but it will be later in life, especially if you stay in a public field like music promotion.
At my job we had two interns get fired for tweeting pictures of something that wasn't available for public viewing yet. I would hate for the same to happen to you. Thanks again for trying to liven up the discussion during a time of the year when everyone starts to get cabin fever.

Not sure about the contracts and stuff but he gave the impression that the info he told us earlier was okay to be shared on the net.

Yea, I saw that. That's why I put in the qualifying statement of "May not be a big deal now..."
I made the comment more so because I've never met the guy but I now know just from reading this thread where he works, what kind of work he does, that he is willing to share possibly sensitive information and that he smokes bud. And I'm willing to bet his last name is Horton but that's just a shot in the dark.
I know that's super paranoid of me but, like I said, I've seen people get fired for much less. Just trying to hand out some friendly advice.

I totally agree with you. This is a very dangerous habit.

Keep it real guys!

Welcome to the board! Stick around, it's a pretty fun place, just don't take anything said to heart. As for Amon Tobin I don't remember hearing anything one way or another, but perhaps someone else has.

Great points and I agree that it's good advice for anyone. I was always under the assumption that they know what he's doing but I could be wrong.

That contract says they can't play in a 100 mile radius 180 (!!!) days before the festival. That seems a little much doesn't it? That means would mean that they can't perform anywhere in that 100 mile radius for the next 7 months. I never heard a radius clause that long.
Still the thing that gets me more than anything else is the idea that the Stones would respond to an offer from Riverbend with anything other than a straight off no.

That's really not that bad considering where Chatty is. 100 miles still gives you Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, Knoxville and Asheville.

It sounds intense, but there aren't any "big" cities within 100 miles from Chattanooga. Nashville, Knoxville and Atlanta are all over 100 miles away. Really just covers Bonnaroo.

Not a confirmation, or new news or anything but I noticed Grizzly Bear tweeting that they hoped they'll be able to stick around Primavera all weekend due to the great line up, so I tweeted them something along the lines of " there's gonna be a great line up at another fest this summer you guys should play. The one in Tennessee maybe? They favourite'd it. So yeah, just taking up space with this post.

The link/tweet was taken down but we had Grizzly Bear set as "quasi-confirmed" because they've mentioned it and favorited tweets about it as well. Looking like it's pretty positive for Grizzly Bear at Roo.
I knew this, just hoped to get a little more of a confirmation, my attempt failed, but figured I'd share with the class.
How did your attempt fail? It helped. Every time they favorite/retweet something about them being at Roo it helps us know that they are likely playing (or at least want to).

Yeah okay, but why 180 days then? It doesn't make any sense if there isn't any other place within 100 miles they could play. It would make sense if it would be more than 100 miles.
