Ok, guys. This has been a very emotional day with the news of Thee Oh Sees breakingup/extended hiatus/indefinite hiatus/whatever. There have been many phone calls, texts messages, and telling work colleagues, who have no idea what I'm talking about, all about it. I was planning on coming home from work and making a thread titled "Rock n' roll is Dead" and going into long spiel about how much I miss them and how great they were. Well, I just sat down to this fantastic news: They are not breaking up! Hooraaay!!!!
DEAR OH SEES FANS, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT. THE BAND IS NOT BREAKING UP. THIS IS JUST A WELL DESERVED BREAK AND A TRANSITIONAL PERIOD. A NEW THEE OH SEES LP WILL BE OUT EARLY 2014 AND WE WILL SEE WHERE THE LIVE SHOW GOES FROM THERE… UNTIL THEN, BE WELL JPD
My world is falling apart. There were the most consistently kick @as band in rock.
I said the same thing about Pink & Brown, then he started Coachwhips. I said that about them and he started Thee Oh Sees. LA will be fertile for him to start a new project (didn't Ty Segall just move there?). Have no fear.

You have a great point. Dwyer is a creative and awesome dude who will continue to make creative and awesome music in some capacity. With the clarification that Thee Oh Sees are not actually breaking up, I'm betting we will start seeing more and more non-Oh Sees material and less and less actual Oh Sees stuff from him, creating a kind of overlapping time of mixed Dwyer releases...which would be really cool.
Just landed from a week of internet blackout while vacationing in the Dominican Republic. This would have been the worst homecoming imaginable!
A " break" for Thee Oh Sees is like 2-3 months. The fact there's gonna be new music from this band makes up for the near heartbreak or catching up in this thread.
some real choice cuts there. Good article too. Never that familiar with Flips or Wayne. This does intrigue me. People really focused on the Dylan stuff huh. Bob Dylan is 72! I Repeat! Bob Dylan is 72! I lol'd
True whorestories #43: A friend of mine in Chicago played on Mr Albini's softball team, The Electrons, and invited me to poker night at Steve's place. He happened to be recording Mclusky that night, who were rapidly becomming post-punk idols of mine. I got a tour of Electric Audio, the sacred spot of soooo many amazing moments on record. I then proceeded to get drunk, talk tons of music, fvck around with one of Mclusky's girlfriends and stumble home before dawn with a sh!teating grin. Months later, met the Band in some seedy basement bar in Phoenix. They had just had all their gear stolen the night before in Tuscon and were totally dejected. I bought them shots before and after a typically brutal, sweaty set. A couple weeks later they called it quits. A whirlwind groupie romance ended. Moral of the story: listen to Big Black and "Do Dallas" incessantly and dreams Do come true.
. I then proceeded to get drunk, talk tons of music, fvck around with one of Mclusky's girlfriends and stumble home before dawn with a sh!teating grin.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes to leave the Allman Brothers Band:
On Tuesday afternoon on Jam Cruise, Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks shared the surprising news that guitarist Derek Trucks will leave the group's employ at the end of the year. Trucks gave the news aboard the MSC Divina during a session of the Masters Camp At Sea program. Butch is an instructor for Masters Camp At Sea. Upon receiving the press release it was confirmed that Warren Haynes would also be departing the band.
The news about Derek and Warren comes a little more than a week after Gregg Allman told Rolling Stone that Oteil Burbridge was leaving the Allman Brothers Band. Both Oteil and the Allmans denied Gregg's quotes and Burbridge is set to play with the band in 2014.
Today, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes have released both joint and personal statements about the situation:
"For 25 years and 15 years respectively, we've had the honor and pleasure of playing, living, learning, and traveling with the Allman Brothers Band, one of the truly legendary rock and roll bands. We will be forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience, and for the love, enthusiasm, and support of the incredible fans. We are both preparing to dig even deeper into our various creative and musical endeavors and, as a result, 2014 will be our final year as part of the band. We are looking forward to seeing our loyal ABB fans at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta this Friday night January 10th and in March at the Beacon Theater in New York City as we celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the band." - Warren Haynes & Derek Trucks
A Statement from Warren Haynes:
"I joined the Allman Brothers Band in 1989, at age 28, for a reunion tour with no promise or expectations of it going any further. Based on the success of the tour and the uncanny chemistry between the original members and the new members, we decided to continue and see where it all led. Now, here we are, 25 years later, and it has been an amazing experience. I've always said that if I were to join a band that I grew up listening to the ABB would be at the top of that list. The original version of the band was a huge influence on me and I'm sure that the countless hours I spent listening to and studying that music helped shape me as a musician. As proud as I am of being a member of such a legendary band, I'm even more proud of the music that we've made together and of being a part of carrying their original vision into the future.
As someone who's been fortunate enough to juggle a lot of musical projects and opportunities I look forward to maintaining a vigorous schedule which will include many more years of touring and recording with Gov't Mule in addition to my solo projects and to enjoying more family time as well. Being part of the ABB has opened a lot of doors for me and that's something I don't take for granted nor do I take for granted the friendship and musical relationships I have with each of the members. The 45th Anniversary of the ABB is a milestone amidst too many highlights to count and I'm looking forward to an amazing year creating music that only the Allman Brothers Band can create."
A Statement from Derek Trucks:
"I got the call to join the Allman Brothers while on tour with my own band at the age of 19. It was out of the blue and felt surreal. I leapt at the chance. This was the music that I had cut my teeth on and it was the distinctive sound of Duane's guitar that inspired me to pick up the instrument in the first place.
When I started with ABB I didn't know how long it would last, only that I would let the music lead me and teach me. Amazingly that led me past the band's 40th anniversary, to the band's 45th, and now my 15th year as a member of this incredible band. Five years ago the 45th seemed like a lofty goal but I thought if we could make it to that milestone it would be a logical time to move on.
While I've shared many magical moments on stage with the Allman Brothers Band in the last decade plus, I feel that my solo project and the Tedeschi Trucks Band is where my future and creative energy lies. The Tedeschi Trucks Band tour schedule keeps growing, and I feel the time has finally come to focus on a single project, which will allow me to spend that rare time off the road with my family and children. It’s a difficult decision to make, and I don’t make it lightly.
I’m proud to have made a small contribution to the masterful music they have created over the past forty years, and will continue to create. Now seems like a good time to go out on a high note with a great 45th anniversary in 2014, and the mutual respect and friendship of the other 6 members of ABB."
The Allman Brothers Band next plays at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA on January 10th.
Always excited for anything Omar related. Who knows, maybe this new band or Bosnian Rainbows ends up on the farm this year. Still hoping a Mars Volta reunion is possible a few years down the road.
"AUSTIN BENSON FEBRUARY 2, 2014 AT 10:40 PM fuck that the chili peppers were badass.. i didn’t understand the song choice really, but it was still cool. they just popped from out of nowhere.. the dudes wore socks on their dicks when they were young, something you don’t even see people similarly doing these days, and no one else was doing shit like that back in the day. so they stayed young, idc how old they are, and i don’t think they do either, that opinion is hella biased."
Aside- I saw a late night Revivalists show in New Orleans during Voodoo where they played with George Porter Jr, Nigel Hall, Eric Krasno, bunch of other guests, and their encore was a Chili Peppers cover set and David Shaw (lead signer) wore nothing but a sock on his dick. So there's that.

Yes, this is real. George Zimmerman, the man acquitted of killing Trayvon Martin, has signed a contract with celebrity boxing match promotor Damon Feldman. And Feldman has delivered on his reputation for head-spinning matchups (see: Tonya Harding vs. a waitress) by selecting DMX as Zimmerman's opponent, TMZ reports. To break it down further: George Zimmerman will fight DMX.
As you can imagine, the list of people willing to fight Zimmerman was long. Among the 15,000 candidates was the rapper Game, who told TMZ: "I would not be boxing for me... I'd be boxing for the legacy of Trayvon Martin and his family." DMX also told TMZ that he wants to fight on behalf of "every black person who has been done wrong in the system...I am going to beat the living fuck out of him. I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I fuck him up right." He also threatened to piss on Zimmerman's face.
Details of the fight, which takes place on March 1, will be announced during a news conference next Wednesday.
Update: TMZ reports that DMX is still negotiating a contract, so the fight isn't 100% official yet.

You think it is the "pissing on his face" that might be slowing the negotiations down a bit?
And I see they did not take my application seriously.

I just wish they could have waited to release this on a day other than what would have been Martin's 19th birthday.

The cynic in me is saying that it was planned to distract from that fact.
Wow. That's pretty crazy. I wonder if they'll find as much success as they had as a group. I guess Marcus is going to be the big name considering he's been doing different collaborations and stuff.
You sonnuvabitch. I should know better than to comment before reading the article.

Whuttup Sheezus—this is the title of Lily Allen's new record. As Glamour reports, the singer-rapper confirmed the title on the episode of BBC's "Graham Norton Show" airing tonight before she performed her new single "Air Balloon". "It's a confident title choice," she said, "and a little nod to Kanye West."
Allen's recent singles also include "Hard Out Here" and "L8 CMMR", the latter of which is from the "Girls" soundtrack. As we await Ye's response... watch the video for "Air Balloon".
Update: Allen wrote on Twitter, "It's an homage, not a piss take. #SHEEZUS" She also posted some accompanying artwork, below.

The new Beck album Morning Phase is out and is freaking great, its like Sea Change started to turn shit around and is getting out of its depressing funk before it gets to be a happy Mutations/Odelayish mood, still somewhat melancholy but with a hopeful note.
