There are several different techniques. Believe it or not half of what Lono said earlier ITT actually makes sense. (Edit: Ok, maybe not half, but that first part). Most ways I've read up include keeping a dream diary. Everyday, as soon as you wake up, write down everything you can remember about your dream. Slowly you're able to notice the difference. Another thing is to (and this will sounds straight out of Inception) make a specific marking on your hand in real life. You'll look at it and see it several times a day. Then when you're dreaming, you can look at your hand and if it's not there, you realize your in a dream.
I was very good at it at one point, to the point where I looked forward to going to bed.
I never got over the hump. I had a few dreams where I was able to have some control, but not total control. Then I'd have other nights where as soon as I realized I was dreaming it was a fight between my conscious and subconscious to stay asleep, which ended up with me waking up in the middle of the night a lot.
i already have enough weird ass dreams, i don't need to try and add anything else in. lol
i've always been a big sleep walker and talker, moving furniture etc. thank god i've never walked out of the house.
I had a friend wander around Boston in his sleep once. I don't walk but I definitely talk. I've also eaten in my sleep. If I fall asleep and there is something like a bag of chips in reaching distance, I'll wake up to the bag gone with no recollection of it. I've also Facebooked/texted during the night only to wake up with no memory of it.

I eat too. Most of the time I remember that. But sometimes I don't and wake up with food on my pillow and chocolate smeared across my face. I'm sure I'm a pleasure to share a bed with.
We should all get together and have a slumber party. See what kind of tomfoolery ensues.
i have a semi-expensive framed print i got from the gallery i worked at while studying abroad in college. it used to hang on my bedroom wall in my old apt and i took it off the wall several times and moved it to other rooms. its drawing of a girl, so i'm wondering if most of the time i just thought it was someone in my room. most of my walking dreams have to do with thinking there are other people in my house: not scary people but like my landlord is here to mow the lawn or something. many times if i go to bed with no clothes on i will wake up with some on. lol

I had a dream I was sent back in time to prevent James Joyce from giving up on writing Ulysses. I found him while he was about to tear up his draft and talked him out of it. He was thankful and invited me to his house (it was a castle). While hanging out a vampire came. Not like a crappy vampire but like demonic satan vampire. Apparently Joyce owed him a debt and was going to trade me for the debt to be forgiven. I ran and ended up in a closest. In this closet there were statues of Sub-Zero and Scorpion. I figured if I could bring the statues to life they would fight the vampire for me. I woke up before I could bring them to life.

Wowzer. I just wanna make out with Wilco in my dreams. You've got Quackin James Joyce cameos.
Also, anyone else act dreams out? I've jumped out of bed before, only to fully awaken as I was turning the door knob and I scream and kick at stuff in my sleep. Once I slapped the shiz out of someone because I dreamt he had spiders on his head.
Yes. I'm a very disordered sleeper. I talk, yell, kick, run (horizontally), laugh, etc, sometimes with my eyes open. My parents say they spent like 2 years with bruised ribs because I would climb into their bed as a kid, get between them, and start flailing. I used to have extremely vivid serial nightmares too but spent some time in a dream group lead by a Native American healer (less new-agey than it sounds, she really just talked us all through our dreams, helped us lucid dream, keep dream diaries, etc) which seems to have cured that. But I'm still an absolute nightmare to share a bed with.
