Thrilled to see him return (and on the same day that we get a sea shanty from Keef and Waits), but the cards don't seem to add up to a performance on the farm. Methinks the heart attack still scares him, and the new album is reportedly pretty melancholy/dark - not exactly summer music festival manna even if he were to go back on stage to promote it.
Where did you hear the whole album is melancholy/dark? Just wondering, cuz other then this song that showed up as a random surprise I haven't heard a peep what the rest of the album is like.

I in no way think that Bowie will be at Roo (he'd be my number one if he were), but here is an interview I found with Gary Visconti, Bowie's producer for The Man Who Sold The World, Low, Heroes, Lodger, Scary Monsters, Heathen and Reality.
"I've been listening to this on headphones, walking through the streets of New York, for the past two years," Visconti said. "I have not tired of a single song. I think the material on this album is extremely strong and beautiful. If people are looking for classic Bowie, they'll find that on this album. If they're looking for innovative Bowie, some new directions, they'll find that on this album too."
Visconti was surprised that Bowie selected the downcast "Where Are We Now?" as the leadoff single. "It's a very reflective track for David," he says. "Maybe the only track on the album that goes this much inward for him. It's quite a rock album, the rest of the songs, so I thought to myself: 'Why is David coming out with this very slow, albeit beautiful ballad? Why is he doing this? He could come out with a bang.' I think the next thing you hear from him is going to be quite different."
So I take it from Visconti's interview with Rolling Stone that Godzilla might be misinformed about the content of the album, also in regards to Bowie's health:
Bowie's 2004 tour was cut short when the singer underwent emergency heart surgery for a blocked artery. Rumors spread that Bowie's long absence from the music scene was related to health problems, but Visconti says that isn't the case. "He's a very healthy man," the producer says. "I assure you. I've been saying this for the past few years. I couldn't explain how I know that, but I worked with a very healthy David Bowie in the studio and a very happy David Bowie in the studio."

I went back and tried to find the article where I'd read it was a dark album but couldn't find it. Ah well.
On a side note, there's a registration for signed copies of Bowie's book on his website, but I can't get the link to work. Anyone else have better luck (and be able to tell what outrageous price they're doubtlessly asking)?
I thought I heard recently about how Bowie does not leave the house anymore and collects his fingernails and bodily excretions so no one can work evil magic on him.

Hmm, I heard something similar, but the version I heard was that Bowie never leaves House alone and has gone so far as to collect his fingernails and bodily excretions. Needless to say, Hugh Laurie is both pissed and honored...er, honoured.
The headline: David Bowie Didn't Say He Wouldn't Tour Again, So Please Calm Down
;D
Also in regards to the sound of the new album:
The Next Day will be very diverse: "It's not essentially totally a rock album: It's a David Bowie album ... Some songs are up-tempo and driving and some are completely far out. ... A couple of new things people haven’t heard before on a Bowie album so he's been very innovative on several tracks." [via THR]
Can't wait to hear it... And to see him on the farm?
