Is there a song of the month thread? Autre Ne Veut - Warning or James Blake - Retrograde. Hopefully March sucks for music so I can really get into all the good stuff from this month.
Josh Ritter, The Strokes, Kvelertak, David Bowie, Robyn, Major Lazer, Depeche Mode, and Wavves all have albums coming out I believe. Plus technically Youth Lagoon, How To Destroy Angels, and Cave Singers were March. Not saying all of these albums will be good, but I like enough of the previous work to make sure I'll give them listens. Bad news is there are no months off once you start trying to keep up to date on these things. Thank God for now playing or I'd miss the smaller names that put out great albums (Grouper, Autre Ne Veut etc).
Inforoo's Co-Albums of the Month for February 2013:
Autre ne Veut made a late surge, here is the final tally:
Apparat - Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre): 4 Atoms for Peace - AMOK: 4 Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away: 4 Jim James - Regions of Light and Sound of God: 3 Foals - Holy Fire: 3 Autre ne Veut - Anxiety: 3 My Bloody Valentine - m b v: 2 Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse: 1 Mount Moriah - Miracle Temple: 1 Grouper - The Man Who Died in His Boat: 1 Araabmuzik - For Professional Use Only: 1 Steven Wilson - The Raven that Refused to Sing: 1 Warm Soda - Someone for You: 1
For March guys, let's try to stick to posting a picture of the album cover to cast a vote. That way I can separate the regular conversation from the votes easier.

This month we should also try to keep the conversation (aside from conversations about votes) to the links posted on page 1 for album discussion. Will help curb voting confusion. And it will also be nicer to look at

Would it help to have a separate album discussion thread for each month? Because nobody seems willing to use the existing 2013 albums thread.

I dunno I feel like things are already too spread out as it is and it's unclear where to post what. We have an upcoming releases thread and a new albums thread but people will post upcoming releases in the new albums thread and discuss them in here. It's all very confusing.

Maybe we could narrow it down to 8 albums every month and then create polls in the blue room for each month. Or maybe we can start a new subforum in the music lounge called the green room for polls that are not bonnaroo or sideboob or pancake related

I thought a monthly topic might help for a few reasons. I could keep the first post updated with a list of that month's album releases, which would help everyone keep track of what's out there. It would also be a place to encourage the kind of non-voting discussion that goes on in here. I'm mostly thinking about the "it's between X and Y posts," or the people who are looking forward to the month ahead when something leaks or streams early. Basically, I think a companion topic would be an easy way to contain all of the non-voting chatter that nobody seems willing to take elsewhere, no matter how often they're told to keep it to voting only.
It's worth noting that the 2013 New Releases thread has been pretty dead since Album of the Month was created. Everyone wants to talk about albums in here instead. Maybe that would still be the case with a companion topic, but it be might easier to point to a monthly albums topic and say "all non-voting goes here."
Just a thought, I don't really care too much either way. I'll wait until there's more of a consensus.
I say we do a topic for each month and let the OP update said topic to a poll towards the end of the month after everyone has a good idea when the top 8 albums should be from everyone discussing all of the options out there. We're going to give rosko an ulcer if we continue the current method.
I don't think it needs to be that complicated. In this thread, just post your favorite album once a month, and when you're done, don't post until next month.
If you have a comment about a new album, use one of the other two threads. To make it even simpler, we could lock one of the other two, since they both serve the same purpose.
I like the idea about making a new thread for each month. It would make it so much more organized because people are inevitably going to discuss, at least a little bit. It makes it fun, too. The OP should have the tally of votes and links to the previous months.
What? Yes. It was counted in the Jim James tally. Why would you think it would not be counted? The only vote I missed was one of the ones for Nick Cave. I did not count Godzilla's because he prefaced it with "I don't know if it's the album of the month but..."
Here's what I propose: I'm honestly cool with people discussing their favorite albums of the month in this thread, I just propose that when you're actually VOTING for your favorite album of the month, you make a post that looks just like this (or else your vote may not count):

I am not completely against discussion. I made a point of recognizing the fact people would want to discuss why an album was their favorite. I was just trying to be courteous to other posters who created threads specifically for new release discussion by not taking all the discussion away from them. I made a comment about "vote or zip it" when the discussion started to turn into Canadians and Hockey or something like that. I don't see the point of starting a thread for every month, but if that;s what people want to do, that's fine.
If you're cool with this PMO (since you started the thread), I think it's fine to let people discuss their favorite albums of the month, and then when they're actually casting a vote, they should just post a big picture of the album cover with the name of the album underneath. That'd help me keep track of the tally and allow this thread to retain its usefulness. Does that sound copacetic?
I'd give it a 5% chance that I change my vote by the end of the month. Short of QOTSA dropping their new album completely unannounced, I don't see it happening. Maybe part of the reason I'm so blown away by Wondrous Bughouse, is that this is my introduction to Youth Lagoon. I'll be sure to check out his first album shortly.

Wasn't sure, since I hadn't posted a picture of the album cover.
