Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo in 2013!!
I got the e-mail as well, and I haven't volunteered the past 2 years...I worked through wet in 2010 and through Bonnaroo in 2009...I just bought my ticket in 2011, and volunteered with RooFan last year...I'm volunteering through the Manchester Chamber of Commerce this year...

Does anyone have any experience asking for exceptions in relation to check in dates/times? I volunteered last year, and I really want to do during fest again, but I can't get there till early Thursday (planning on leaving Wednesday early evening but it's a ten hour drive plus pit stops) because of a family commitment. I'm wondering if they will be more lenient since they are doing it in house and it sounds like a lot of information will be posted online? I would apply for post fest but it's looking like that's not really a great option for me because of my work schedule.
I'd assume they'll work with you. Especially considering that former vols should get their preference of jobs. You could also maybe swap jobs with someone who may have a late Thurs or early Friday shift. The only pains would be the "orientation (usually a joke) and finding a campsite in vol parking would be a pain. Never hurts to ask them.

Email them early on and see what they can tell you. volunteers@bonnaroo.com
"To be a GuRoo means that you are willing to help check volunteers in, get them to their assigned work area, and work along side them as a role model for what every C’roo member should be making sure that they stay on task and do the job that is asked of them.
You must put in a minimum requirement of 28 hours spread out through pre-show and during show. YOU MUST ARRIVE ON SITE ON SUNDAY JUNE 9TH. Must be a returning volunteer, must have leadership experience, and any other event planning or volunteer experience doesn’t hurt either.
Perks: 2 meal tokens per shift. You’ll get a special GuRoo t-shirt PLUS the regular C’roo shirt. Pit access at the What stage. A "few more perks" also possible that they're working on.
There will be a section on the C’roo application to mark that you would be interested. You will have to have submitted your C’roo application and paid your deposit before April 19th to be considered. There will be a secondary application and interview process. All GuRoos will be selected by May 17th."

It's not too far off from my earlier guess...but "pit access" doesn't sound like such a great perk to get essentially the same compensation as a regular volunteer, work more hours AND missing shows. I can get into a pit for a show without being a "GuRoo" volunteer anyway. Lame.

28 hours really isn't that much. And if most of it will be worked during pre-fest, in 09 I worked close to 21 hours in two days and wasn't even tired because I was so busy.(also pregnant.) So to be able to do some pre-fest hours along with a few during fest hours, and have perks. Not a bad deal.
I got a response from Bonnaroo regarding my previous work with the in house volunteer program.
It was helpful and they did say to mention in my application that I never with with Bonnaroo WET but did work with them prior.
Sounds like it might work in both our favors if I pursue this avenue this year.
My husband still will be camped right next to the ferris wheel in Access, so logistics aren't an issue.
(side note toot my horn)Ive known exactly where I was going to camp since 2009. I don't really remember what it was like to drive in with a crap shoot. Weird.
It is pretty nice knowing where you're camping ahead of time, isnt it? hehe Signing up as a tollbooth volunteer, I always knew where I'd be. Nice view from there too. seeing how empty and grassy the fields are and then seeing it fill up and the ferris wheel set up in Centeroo and whatnot.

Just wanted to give an update and say that I emailed the folks at Roo about coming in on Thursday morning for during fest and they said that the latest they would allow is late Tuesday night
If money is an issue, maybe you should look into the Street Team process for getting a ticket. Or get your name entered into the Inforoo BeTheMatch thing if you qualify.

Feel Good Foods is once again recruiting for this year's festival season. We are looking for mostly volunteers but some paid spots exist for the right people. The positions available depend on the event but could be in either catering and or concessions based upon what we are doing at each event. Some pre-show and post-show opportunities exist for certain shows. We are currently planning on being at the following events. The Sweetwater 420 Festival (Atlanta, GA) - French Broad River Festival (Hot Springs, NC) - Del Fest (Cumberland, MD) - Wakarusa (Ozark, AR) - Thunder on the Mountain (Ozark, AR) - Bonnaroo (Manchester, TN) - Camp Bisco (Mariahville, NY) - Forecastle Festival (Louisville, KY) - Floyd Festival (Floyd, VA) - High Sierra Festival (Quincy, CA) and a few others that I will not bring up until we get confirmations. A deposit based upon the ticket price is required for all volunteer positions. Generally speaking your volunteer hours will be the gate ticket price divided by 10. IE. Bonnaroo gate price is $250 so you would be required to do 25 hours of volunteer time. In exchange for your time we will provide you a ticket, beverages, and meals for the duration of your time on site. To apply please go to our website www.feelgoodfoodswnc.com. From there go to festival services and click on volunteer programs. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO GET TO THE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION AND NOT FILL OUT THE SIMPLE CONTACT US FORM. If you have any questions, please email them after filling out the application to fgfasheville@gmail.com. Put in the header "Volunteer question 2013".
Thanks and we look forward to meeting some new faces this year,
Those of you that have volunteered before WET, when volunteering was directly through Bonnaroo... what was camping like? same location in POD 1? Did they have tollbooth volunteers camp there or like what WET did with a separate camp for them at the West Tollbooths? I'm curious since I'm thinking of sticking with tollbooth again.

Hey Ellie
POD 1 was used for volunteer camping in 2008 (my first year). In 2009, it was over by the farmhouse with the silo where Bushy Branch Road makes a sharp turn to the right going away from Centeroo. A large ditch went through the middle of the area which became muddy but there were trees that provided shade in some parts.
I see no mention of the tollbooth volunteer position in the e-mails 08 & 09 but some pre-fest and during fest vols may been assigned to work them. Maybe someone who worked tollbooth prior to 2010 will post.

I just realized they posted C'Roo descriptions and what type of shift they are. I'm wondering if Tollbooth can even be guaranteed done by Friday (parking is though). Also starting to think Tollbooth volunteers will camp in the main volunteer area. Just POD volunteers are camping at their POD, from what I'm reading.

Ellie, I vol'd last year and yes the toll booths were with us in the general volunteer area.

Last year and the year before, with WET, they were at the west tollbooths (where the silo is) separate from the rest of the volunteers and some people got shipped off to other locations, if necessary, and sometimes even to help parking staff. I assume you mean you volunteered before WET? They dont say anything about camping in a different location, so I assume they're not doing the separate camp for the toll booths C'Roo.

Do volunteers still have to bring all of their own camping equipment or is there tents already set up for volunteers?
Yes, you have to brink your own stuff. But, there are some decent perks: unlimited free showers (hot water most of the time)and more camping space than GA.

Thanks, sounds good! I'm thinking about signing up. Still weighing the options.
Hmm...now I'm sort of looking forward to seeing how different the regular volunteer camping area will be. I've only camped at the tollbooth camp away from the other volunteers, but doesn't look like they'll split us up this time.
More space than GA? and hot showers? We had to share with the regular patrons at POD 6. I know the main volunteer camp had free unlimited showers, but that was way too long of a walk from past POD 6. They gave us tollbooth folks a few free passes for the ones we had to share with General Admission. We were able to use a shower token at POD 7 showers before heading home on Monday, and it's gloriously refreshing before the long drive! I hear the showers over there in main volunteer camp can get pretty dirty though since it's free/unlimited? *shrug*
I highly recommend volunteering. If you go to your shifts, you get your deposit back, so you essentially get a free ticket. You get to spend an extra 2 days on the grounds and see it transform with all the setup going on and then the tons of public coming in. You get a shirt, several free meals, free showers, and the good feeling of helping out! If you can make it work to get there in time to check-in on Tuesday (instead of Wed night/Thursday), then go for it! Even the friends that had shifts they didnt like still came back to volunteer again the next year.

Thanks, Ellie, It's the "satisfaction of helping out" part that I like the most. I love to pitch in and see how things like this come together. If I didn't volunteer, I'm sure I'd have a great time but I know there would come a point where I wished I could participate in helping. But I don't know much about the different jobs. I guess I'd worry about being put someplace crazy during Paul's performance and I wouldn't really get to enjoy it. I love many many artists in the lineup and would be ok if I had to miss anyone else but knowing that Paul McCartney is playing and I couldn't dance around and enjoy it. I guess it depends on what I volunteer to do?
Ellie- the showers in volunteer camping do get rather dirty. They definitely aren't cleaned nearly as often as regular showers in GA. But that only happens once BFE fills in and it's not bad before Thursday (if you're doing pre-fest). *this should not be a deal breaker for anyone*
WFA- volunteering during fest is only worth if it wouldn't devastate you to miss some shows. My first year at Roo I volunteered during fest and it was OK Bc I had no idea what was going on. But my second year I did pre-fest because I knew how POed i would be to be working on my vacation and missing the whole point of being there (THE MUSIC).
One of the best benefits of volunteering though, which people don't mention much, is meeting new people from all over the country and getting a closer relationship. Some people who go solo volunteer just to meet new people and have a "crew" of sorts. You inevitably make friends after camping with them for 7 days. I gotta say that the atmosphere in volunteer camp is very friendly and open and that was probably the best thing I got out of it last year. (besides the free ticket without missing any shows

I totally understand. When I volunteered with WET before, they asked us to put in our top 2 bands to see, so they could avoid scheduling us then. I dont know what the C'Roo apps will look like, but I'm guessing they may have something similar. They let us swap shifts too before the festival, it says online.
