This year will be my first year attending with two other friends (who also have never attended before). We live about six hours away from Manchester and were considering arriving on Wednesday so we did not have to deal with the traffic of Thursday - but we have heard Wednesday can be pretty ridiculous too.
Do you have any tips on which day to arrive is better or is it really random regardless and arriving Wednesday just adds one more day of camping?

What Phi said. I arrived on Wed around 3:30-4:00pm. And practically drove right in. And by practically I mean it took no time at all to get half way up the road to the main festival entrance, after that point it was probably about an hour before I was parked at a camp spot. I think that's about as good as it gets. Unless your rolling in on Saturday you will have at least some idle time in your car.
Also Wed night was awesome just roaming around meeting people and drinking beers!
From my point of view, every year seems to be different, but the general consensus is that it is easier on Wednesday. Plus, that's an extra night of drinking.

Thanks for the thread and for the tips, errbody. We'll definitely keep all this in mind and probably roll out on Wednesday. Settling in early and not having to wait sounds like a pretty good deal to me
I arrived Wednesday night/Thursday morning at 1:00am and had 100% zero line. I drove all the up to the checkpoint. I was in shock and felt like I was doing something wrong all the way in.

Last year I showed up around 9PM Wednesday night and ended up in BFE. I plan on showing up a few hours later maybe midnight-4A.M. And hoping I'll get put in Pod 2 or 3. Does this sound logical or am I taking crazy pills?

Last year was my 3rd year in a row, all 3 years we've hung out in walmart parking lot....
My first year being a noob I went in at midnight Wednesday (They let people from walmart onto i24)... BFE 2nd year... 3am Thursday (they did not let people from walmart get onto the interstate, directed them into back entrance LINE WAS SUPER LONG).... BFE Last year, we slept in walmart parking lot and just waited for them to open up i24 access again. Had some breakfast got on i24 and strolled right in, no line. Killer Spot in Pod 2 Went in around 9am (CAMP BOUT IT) We had a big sign next to the dirt walk way so a lot of people remember Camp Bout IT
My advice? Come to Walmart Wednesday night, enjoy the party and the wooks (Who I learned SNEAK IN...) and then stroll in Thursday morning

I arrived thursday morning around 9am and waited in line for about 30 minutes. If that. I was placed in Darth Vader, about 10 minutes from centeroo. The whole experience couldn't have gone any better.

Dude... It's a party... This is my fourth year and I couldn't imagine going to Bonnaroo without partying at Wal-Mart parking lot Wednesday night. We pop up our EZ-Ups and sleep on cots in the parking lot haha
Really, I think the long lines are almost a thing of the past. I typically arrive early in the afternoon on Thursday and I have pretty much just driven up to the toll booths the last two years. Since the Wednesday people are saying the same, I think they may have figured out how to get everyone through as fast as possible, and it really doesn't matter when you arrive, you won't be in line for hours anymore.
