first, it was lovely meeting LD last night before the show! hope you had a good one last night that second set was an absolute scorcher, i honestly don't see how they are going to top it tonight or tomorrow.
want to shout out some of my seatmates from the past two nights. night one i was with a wonderful couple from Charleston, SC. i was excited to be with fellow southerners. anyway the guy made a joke the first time phish jammed, he said "best jam of the weekend" and that led to us saying that to each other every time a new jam was going "no THIS is the best jam of the weekend" and by the second set when a jam started we'd just look at each other and do a number one hand signal. it was fun. the lady told me a story about how when she and some other families went camping they brought a karaoke machine and her 10 year old kid did "Harry Hood" on karaoke which is really funny and awesome.
night two was a little different. two ladies from new york, don't get me wrong they were both super nice but one of the ladies had taken something and it progressed throughout the night. i definitely saw her strangling the dude next to her who she didn't know and he was like haha OK. it was friendly strangling but a strangling nonetheless. we had some nice conversation early in the show but by set two the one lady got really into my sweater. she said i needed to take my sweater off, i assured her i was quite comfortable. she mentioned it a few times "when are you going to take your sweater off". then she asked if she could hug me and i said sure and when she was hugging me she said "you need to wear less clothes" and after the encore i was saying good night and she grabbed my sweater collar and got real close to my face and said through gritted teeth "YOU NEED TO BUY A MOUNTAIN BIKE".
it was slightly uncomfortable but worth it because it was so funny.

alright word just gonna toss out a few bullets from the perspective of someone who would be called an extremely casual fan at best:
- the first set was neat and i was excited to hear stash which is one of the 4-5 phish songs i actually know. i really liked back on the train which i hadn't heard before mostly because it sounded the closest to a grateful dead song and i've been in a big dead phase this year. there were a few times where it felt like they were getting to a darker/weirder/heavier spot but then pulled back which for me and my personal tastes was kind of a bummer but i know sometimes that's the situation. overall a groovy time and enjoyable. it also, a couple times, felt like they were hinting at carini, which i was really really wanting to hear as it is my favorite of the list of 4-5 as mentioned. you can probably guess how this post will end based off that so you can skip to the end if you want BUT i'm still gonna write it out anyway
- the second set was almost right off the bat more in my direction on the darker mood path and the playing was really great. i said to my buddy (who knew the same amount i did going in) at set break what i mentioned earlier about wanting them to go darker and heavier like they had hinted at and asked are they setting something up, or is that just phish? was thrilled for it to be the former. the climax of my friend, my friend was the best part to me and in my eyes a window into why people love this band so much, as was the 40 minute straight section to start off the set as a whole. crowd vibes were great during harry hood so looks like i will need to listen to that a little more. again, there were what i heard as hints at carini but by the end of the set i figured either i am just telling myself that or it's gonna be another night.
- the encore started off just fine. i then absolutely lost it when carini started. to be honest, i'm not sure that a phish show could get better than that for me since it's legitimately one of the only phish songs i've actively listened to since hearing it and loving it at roo 2012. dark. heavy. weird. fuck yeah. got some great headbanging in.
at the end of the day, i probably don't see myself as a 4-night run, travel to shows, etc etc person but i had a great time and life permitting will probably look to continue catching one of the MSG new years shows as long as i live in or around NYC. it's fun to lean into a scene that you're a relative outsider to for a night. to reiterate the only thought i was able to muster earlier, i get it. very fun!

Hector Salamanca that's awesome so glad you had a great show. I too love the darker Phish.
That second set was right up my alley. Gnarly jams, high energy, wild ass train veering down the tracks rocking side to side but never falling off. Pure fun. Carini in the encore was shocking but was so appropriate.
After a set like that the rest of the run is just icing.

So glad to hear everyone had as good a time as I did last night. Set 2 was really something. We’ll see what they have in store for the rest of the run.
3post1jack1 I hope your show tonight is sweater lady and ketamine dude free.
thanks. i'll definitely be ketamine guy free but i'm back in the section tonight where i met sweater lady. she was actually OK it'd be funny to run into her again because i am wearing the same sweater tonight.
24 years and 94 shows. When people ask me what song I'm still chasing my standard response has always been "honestly I've caught every song I want to hear. The only thing left is a full gamehenge set lol" which is a funny joke because that will never happen right? Because they haven't done one since 1994.
Last night when those notes to "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday" started and famed character actress Annie Golden said it was "finally time to hear the story of gamehenge" and the stage turned into the fucking rhombus.
Ooh I was a fucking mess. 😭 In the best way. Peak live music moment.

Anyone feel like explaining what this thing is all about? Google tells me all of the songs are connected, but what makes the show so good? And what is a rhombus?
