I knew it! hahaha
Croc Rock has turned into such a hole ever since it turned into a hardcore music shrine. I've seen alot of sweet injuries there. They used to get some really good bands to put on intimate shows there, but not anymore. I haven't been to Croc in probably 5 years. What band did you play in? Are you in a new band now?
HAHAHAH yes it had to be thats awesome that you know that...I played in a band called Regret From Ruin for a while. We played a lot with Along Awaited Tragedy and that whole crew for a while. And I'm in a new band now but it's nowhere near HXC music. I kinda went the complete opposite route I'm in like an instrumental jazzy type band now if you wanna check it out its facebook.com/hahnandwolk
small world!
It all added up so perfectly, I knew it had to be. No place else can suck that bad lol. I'll definitely check out your band when I get home. Any drummer influenced by Carter will probably peak my interest.

Yea Skinny Puppy shows were always a show within a show ......
Oh yeah, the nola 2004 Skinny Puppy show was wild as fuuuk and also the loudest show I've ever been to. There was this one chick going nuts throughout the pit throughout the entire show. Got my hair pulled, scratched me a few times, grabbed my ass, etc. She did this to several people in the audience and I can't believe nobody hit her. she wanted someone to smang her hard right there in the pit.

Are you suggesting that there would have been a smash bang fusion?
Absolutely. Although it may have been her in the drivers seat before it was all over with. And she might have killed them after she was done with 'em. Or at the very least chopped off the guys tallywacker, sling it across the room, and laugh maniacally when it lands in someone's drink before moving on to her next victim.

I highly recommend you watch the video:
Lemme Smang it Girl
It's awful. But it's supposed to be. If you like it even a little, watch something made by slick mahoney. I usually don't recommend the Jeep to people, but since you used the phrase smang, I have to.

Hygenically clean is the first prerequisite
They forgot "must have good cocaine connections to support Tom Taylor's habits"

I used to play with that sh*tty band Emmure all the time with my old band. We actually turned out to become pretty good friends, they were fun guys, but god their music is f*cking awful.

Woodstock '99. Only festival I've ever fled because I feared for my life...
I certainly did some tent hiding that night, still the Impotent Sea Snakes at Exit Inn probably takes the cake for me. At one point half naked girls were throwing huge black rubber dildos in the audience asking us to beat each other senseless with them.

Hiding in my tent was my first instinct but after hearing a mob of guys near my tent screaming about how they were going to kill someone I decided that my one-person tent was not going to protect me so I packed it up and hit the road. Slept at a rest stop for a few hours instead.

I was unencumbered by sobriety at that point so driving was not an option.
That entire story reminds me of a Hank Jr. show I saw at a Pensacola music fest. I guess everyone was there all day and then had to endure Sugar Ray before Hank went on so people got violent.
Hank III was insane, and mostly during his country set! There were more fights, more pitting, and a ton of people getting dragged off the floor in full nelsons during that set than his Hellbilly set, or when his metal band AssJack played. It was ridiculous.
Rage Against the Machine w/ Queens of the Stone Age in 2007.
There's a reason this show is known as "The Battle of Alpine Valley."
It was the last time I'd ever bought concert tickets via telephone. Those tickets went on sale during Bonnaroo, and I made a call from the farm to get them. I hit the button for the "best available tickets" option. This resulted in me getting a pair of pit tickets, between the stage and pavilion seating. Alpine has a capacity close to 40K, and the covered pit/pavilion area only holds 10K (maybe 12K) of that capacity - the rest is lawn seats.
There was a massive downpour that afternoon, to the point that it was feared the show would be canceled. It wasn't, but there was still rain coming down while QOTSA were playing. Other than the chunks of muddy sod flying from the lawn seats, it seemed to be a normal QOTSA set with a normal QOTSA crowd.
Rage hit the stage. Shit hit the fan. The handful of venue security manning the pit checkpoints were outnumbered and overwhelmed as fans rushed the stage. There were literally hundreds of people who rushed their way past security into an already-at-capacity pit. It was one of the densest crowds I've ever been in. My friend & I were barely able to omnomnomnom a quick one during their first song or two with all that jostling and rumbling. I have never seen venue security basically be at war with a crowd the way they were that night. Security reinforcements did arrive about 5-10 minutes into the show, and started dragging away anyone in the pit who didn't have the requisite wristband. A few fights broke out by those resisting. The pit cleared out a bit, giving some breathing room. With security spread a bit thin to focus on the pit, there was an attempted second surge into the pit which was somehow, thankfully, repelled.
And that was just getting started. I've never seen so many people dragged out of a show. I'm talking about more pit-crashers dragged away as the show was starting than any show I've ever attended... but there were also more legitimate concertgoers dragged away in various states of bruised/bloody/unconscious than any show I've ever attended. Put them together, and... Jesus. Black eyes, bloody noses, broken noses, missing teeth. It was the only show where I've thought to myself "I don't feel safe getting any closer than this without a mouthguard."
A couple security guys muscled their way right in front of my friend & I about halfway through the show. I was much more excited to stand behind them than I was upset about the fact that it meant no more nomnomnom for the remainder of the show.
I know there were complaints from friends of mine who saw Dave Matthews Band there the following night, whining about how much the Rage crowd ruined the venue for the rest of the weekend. Screw them. That show was epic, and I find it's one of the more-discussed Wisconsin concerts of my generation. With good reason.
A tie between Whitechapel/Through The Eyes of the Dead/Emmure or August Burns Red/As I Lay Dying. This was back in my scene kid metal fan days when I first started high school. Such an awkward phase.
I def went through this phase...it was fun while it lasted, but so glad I've moved onto camping fests!
Mastodon opening for Clutch at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Ga. I don't remember exactly when but it was in October of 2000 or 2001. I was 15 at the time and went with my Dad who is a diehard Clutch fan and after that show, a diehard Mastodon fan. The entire crowd was full of bodybuilder men the size of my Dad and got heavy and hectic quick. The 40 Watt itself is not that big of a bar and was packed to capacity. Fun, scary and very memorable show. I barely passed my learner's permit the next day due to having trouble hearing the DMV tester.
Most bloody brutal show I've seen was surprisingly Chevelle and Seether at a free concert held in a part of Atlanta known as Underground Atlanta hosted by a radio station called 99x. They blocked of several blocks of a main road and put the stage at the end in the 3-way intersection. Thousands of people standing on asphalt, drinking beer in the middle of the summer with no shade in Atlanta. By the time Seether came on I had already seen three people carried out bloodied on stretchers. I was in high school at the time and it was one of the first times that I chilled in the back for being weary of the insanity upfront.

Ozzfest 97 was the worst for me (Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Marilyn Manson, Pantera, Type O Negative, Fear Factory, Machine Head, Powerman 5000 on the main stage)
Great show but I saw so much violence and watched one kid beat another kid for a good 5 minutes but with it being packed, there was no way to get over to them.
Yeah, that ozz fest was wicked. Saw them in Nashville in 97, fights just randomly broke out, no pushing and shoving first. I just staked out a nice piece of green at star wood, and watched the chaos.
