Why don't you go ahead and quote my f*cking response to the last time you made this idiotic comment? The Jets lost, life goes on. I care more about you being a mindless Jets-hater than the team actually losing, fwiw. Easy trap game to see coming, but you didn't bother asking me before the game what I thought, you just want to try and paint me as fair-weather after a loss. Get f*cked.
It's just fun to see a world-class summers breeze throw a temper tantrum after his team gets spanked. Thanks for obliging.
What temper tantrum? Just remember that every time you make a "how bad are the Jets joke" or something along those lines....your boys lost to that team.
Yeah, I think you could make a case either way, but the refs are going to err on the side of protecting players which unfortunately affected the outcome of the game to some extent.
I think there is a specific rule prohibiting WWF style clotheslines to the neck, but I'm not sure.
The rule prohibits initiating contact with the "head and neck," so it was the right call. If Brooks' arm is a couple inches further down there's no penalty.

I believe it's "head and neck area" which is where the issue comes in. When I look at it, I see him hit right along the collarbone which is kind of the border between the neck and chest. If he would have hit him right in the neck, his head wouldn't have been free to move so far forward. I don't think it's a bad call by any stretch of the imagination. There's just some validity to the alternate viewpoint on this one, and it's unfortunate that a call that could have potentially went either way came at such a crucial time in the game.

Eh, I think if you're saying that isn't a penalty you're either a Niners fan or have been living in a time capsule. It's the 2013 NFL, QB's draw flags if they're sneezed on (well, except Geno Smith), I would've probably been more surprised if a flag wasn't thrown, to be honest.
I'll admit when I was watching the game I thought it was a horsesh*t call.
I think that is because that the culture is changed so much this season. They are throwing so many flags on plays that are simply big hits that fans are starting to get conditioned to be pissed when it gets called regardless just because, by this time, your team has probably been f*cked by a bullshit call or two by now. It's why I am glad TV and the internet are big fans of replaying the big plays and making gifs such as this because it lets you look and see what is legit and what is not.

If you break down the slow motion replay you could make a case that it was a bad call, but in the context of the game and real time speed, that is a flag every single time.

I would have probably thrown the flag myself, but I can see where some are mad about it.

To be fair, this trend started years ago when Brady took that shot to his knee. Every since then the NFL has been moving in this direction. Trust me, I grew up watching "NFL's Greatest Hits" every day of my life, I thought Dick Butkiss clothes-lining defenseless receivers was the bee's knees and all that sh*t...I know that knee-jerk reaction of "this is bullsh*t," but these aren't really new rules anymore. They're clarified, tweaked, but you know you need to come in with your shoulder in the chest/back of a QB to prevent getting a penalty.
But I agree that fans have an established thirst for violence that the NFL created and now they're taking away from it so it pisses people off. We're all just cavemen, only we have nicer clothes now.
I'm not really sure it's fair to have so much favoritism for QBs. It's very hard to find a franchise QB in this league because only so many exist. Swaying the rules in their favor only makes it more difficult for decent teams with a defensive minded approach to sustain consistent success (see: Bengals, Jets, Ravens, pre-2013 Bears, etc.).
Maybe it brings in more money for the NFL on the aggregate, but what about those teams that haven't even able to find a franchise QB?
Casual fans want scoring, and that's who the league caters to. Die-hards will watch if they make the teams wear neon singlets and they eliminate the forward pass, casual fans will turn a game off in 2 seconds if it's some 9-6 slugfest. Protect the QBs, protect the receivers, enable teams to score more points, count your money stacks.
That's why I want Rex Ryan extended, because he is one of the small handful of guys who can coach a defense up enough to make a difference.
Defensive coach + legit franchise QB = Super Bowl
Both are in short supply, but I'd rather have 1 of 2 instead of none.

I think Flanz hit the nail on the head there. Offensive "skill" players are the backbone of the NFL's marketing. Your casual fan can probably name more QBs than they can defensive players. It's unfortunate, but that's just the way it is right now.

That was a nice game winning drive by Cam. I thought the refs were doing their best to give NE a chance at the end. I didn't see an interference on the incompletion to Dobson on third down then they thought about giving them another play after the game ending pick. It was humorous to me to listen to Gruden and Tirico pull for opposite teams at the end. I think I need to take back my opinion that Gruden is the best commentator working NFL games.
Carolina is the most dangerous team in the league right now.
Because they beat an obviously overrated Patriots team whose record is bolstered by an easy schedule?
No because they are hot, and you should know how important that is. I know it is pretty much a requirement of being from New York to hate anything Boston, and I don't disagree with that, but New England is a good team.

That was P.I. both times.

They simply aren't "the most dangerous team in the league" right now. But they are playing well enough to make the playoffs.
Also, the Patriots literally have one (1!) impressive win on their schedule so far. A home victory against New Orleans by 3. Otherwise its Jets, Dolphins, Bills, Buccaneers, etc.
Dude, your just sour because the Jets are going to be in the playoffs. I think a six game winning streak, mixed with the act that most people will be under-rating them makes them so.

I wouldn't call them the most dangerous team, but they are certainly good. It's not like they didn't deserve this win. I just wish the Patriots held up on that final Panther drive there... and that Talib wasn't acting stupid every play against Smith.
Carolina are better than I expected them to be at the beginning of the year.
The Pats are still a good team, above average and playoff contenders. They just aren't as good as they used to be. It doesn't help there's all the defensive injuries, and the offense isn't quite clicking (still.)
Personally, I think Denver is better - and will likely be the AFC champs. The Pats are at best 3rd in the AFC, no lower than 5th - around Indy/KC level, below Denver and Cincy.

That was tough to swallow. Carolina really earned that win though, that's a great team. They're going to be contenders for years to come. Looking back, the Ridley fumble and the Arrington/Ginn TD hurt the most, because they're recurring issues. Ridley saves his fumbles for the biggest moments (Denver last year, San Fran last year, Baltimore last year, and tonight) and the Arrington play is eerily similar to the Crabtree catch-and-run that burnt him last year. Ouch.
I think I need to take back my opinion that Gruden is the best commentator working NFL games.
I kind of hate watching Monday Night Football because of Gruden. If UT would have somehow lured him here and satisfied the pipe dream of so many, I probably wouldn't be able to watch games.
Ryan Mallet might be the next Tom Brady. Did you see that backup QB who has never done d*cksquat in the NFL berating that official!? Tom must have been so proud.
Carolina is extremely close to being 9-1. They're one of four teams with a +100 point differential. They're really f*cking good.
Yeah, I don't know how you knock them. They went into San Fran and beat them at their own game. They just beat the Pats. I don't care if you play the Jaguars 6 straight weeks, amassing six straight wins is incredibly difficult.
Anyone dismissing them is kidding themselves. Elite QB + Elite Defense = God Help You Come January

I love Carolina this year, but in watching them I can't help shake the feeling that things aren't going to click in the playoffs. I honestly don't have much of a reason for this either. Maybe it's Cam? Maybe it's the secondary? Idk.

I thought I was going to have a heart attack during that final Pats drive. I didn't see the PI at the end of the game with Gronk, but after seeing the replay this morning I can't believe the refs didn't give New England another play. And that's coming from a Carolina fan.
Big ups to the Pats fans that were at the game last night. There were a lot of them there, and I didn't see a single one going nuts or being demonstrative after the call didn't go their way. All I saw were a bunch of Panthers fans being assholes to anyone wearing red and blue and generally acting like they've never been around for a big win before. There was even a fight in the parking deck between a dude in a Kuechly jersey and some guy driving a limo. Carolina was keeping it classy last night.

I know that was the biggest Panther win since Delhomme got them to the Super Bowl, but they've got a long way to go to earn a spot playing at MetLife Stadium in January. That was the first full game of theirs I've watched this year and really enjoyed it. I think they match up well with the top NFC teams. It should be an interesting final 6 weeks of the season. I'm still waiting to find that one team nobody is expecting much from that makes a late run and gets to the big game. Seems to be one every year.
