Cleveland is slaying right now. I'm not a huge Justin Gilbert guy but he was obviously high on their board. To pick up an extra 1st-rounder next year is a steal, especially considering how Buffalo is a perennial top-10 pick. Watkins is a beast but I think Cleveland made out big. And they have the 36th overall pick to kick things off tonight. If they take my boy Jordan Matthews (or the great Kyle Van Noy) I'm moving to goddamn Cleveland.
My only concern is coaching, especially when it comes to Manziel. The best coaches know how to develop QBs. I'm not too confident in Pettine but we'll see.
Carolina taking Benjamin is really interesting to me. I love how their mentality is just to be bigger than the opposition and push them around. Even their QB can truck people. They'll probably grab another wideout tonight too.

I'm so damn excited we got Brandin Cooks! We've needed a replacement speed guy. It's going to be a fun year
This might be the Beaver fan in me, but Cooks is a solid player. I didn't think they needed the WR that badly, but good for New Orleans.
What Cooks will hopefully bring to the table is a flashy speedster in the middle and occasionally out wide to give Brees someone to go to for third downs. He will also probably take a fair share of screen passes to replace Sproles. He is a good replacement for Lance Moore and Sproles.
The problems on offense were that the running backs and tight end caught all the passes and that a defense would know what type of play would be called based on the running back being used. If Ingram was in, it would be a run play. If Sproles was in, it would be a screen pass or other pass play.
Now, we have Mr. Reliable Colston, Jimmy Graham, Stills and Cooks to open up the secondary for a more power running style rush attack. Pierre can still take some screen passes, too, but we will probably rely more heavily on Khiry Robinson and Ingram to pound the middle.
Cooks should also help them on special teams with punt returns. I know that Coach Payton will love creating plays for a man with as much speed and quickness as Cooks.
As much as I hate Steve Smith, I'm glad that the Saints now have the possible second-coming of him.

The way they're going, I think Marrone might be trying to catch some of the Chip Kelly magic. Between Watkins, Woods, Stevie Johnson, Mike Williams, and CJ Spiller... That's a lot of weapons. And you figure they might go TE or OT here tonight.

I wouldn't go that far. It was definitely a steep price but I don't think that they overpaid. They saw a guy that they loved that they believe could take over a game and that went and got him.
If it pays off and they're a playoff contender this year I think it was worth it.
I definitely agree that Cleveland made out well. It was a trade that definitely benefited them as well. I don't think that there a loser in this deal, except maybe Oakland. I think they really wanted Watkins.
I liked him but he was sliding to fourth or fifth on the depth chart. He'll be third on a super bowl contender and be near his hometown. The Bills getting a fourth that could turn into a third for their fourth WR who had a $8M+ /year salary is a win for them.

Wow. Antonio Richardson started last year as a potential first round pick, ended up graded as a second or third round pick by before the draft and ended up going undrafted. What a free fall.
I just have to vent for a moment and I figured this would be a more appropriate place than the Grrrrrr.... thread. First of all, I've been a Vikings fan my entire life. I eat, sleep and bleed purple. So here is my vent: I hate Teddy Bridgewater and I hate that the Vikings took him, especially in the 1st round. I don't like any QB in this draft (extremely happy that we didn't get Manziel or Carr) and I was hoping the Vikings would wait until the 3rd round to take a QB if they were going to take one. Instead, they wasted a 2nd and 4th round pick on Bustwater. I do not think he's going to be any good in the NFL. He may have used a pro-style offense in Louisville but that does not mean that it will translate well in the NFL. What really concerns me is that his deep passes are not accurate at all, he floats his passes in cold weather and he's never played in weather below 34 degrees. In Minnesota, the high temp in December can easily be below freezing. He is either going to have a lot of fumbles due to his small hands (even with the gloves) or he will be throwing a lot of interceptions. Another thing is that he is so skinny that I'm afraid he will break in half the first time he gets sacked. I heard he had a lot of injuries in college - broken ankle, broken wrist, etc. It's going to be way worse in the NFL. He needs to seriously bulk up or something and I don't even think that will help him avoid injuries. There's no way he's going to be ready to start this fall. Luckily, the team has two decent QB's that can both start just fine and win games (with an improved defense) in Cassel and Ponder (which makes me question why they drafted a QB in the first place). Finally, I am tired of seeing that dumb story about the pink Caddy. Bridgewater did not buy it for his mom. GM gave it to him for free for a publicity stunt (which clearly worked because people are still talking about it).

First off, my understanding and condolences; I too know the burden of Viking fandom. As far as the Bridgewater thing, if he pans out, the team could be geared nicely to give him a learning, maturing situation - rather than a throw him to the wolves scenario. Then, we just need 3 to four players in the secondary to step up, the new pass rusher Barr to be decent at stopping the run, a coach who makes sensible real-time decisions, and some sort of voodoo priestess to watch over the health of The Franchise (AP). Then, we are set! I know I'll be there, ready for the metaphorical stomping of my grapes that is the regular season of late. To keep us busy, here are some Vikings jokes:

One day doesn't negate 3 years of amazing football. His senior season was disappointing, he had some injuries, a sub-par combine then the talk that spawned from all of that.

I watched a lot of Big East football as a Pitt and WVU fan. Im ok saying Bridgewater will have the best NFL career out of this draft class barring no major injuries. I called him to the Vikings in December when there was talks of Frazier, Ponder and Freeman not returning. Gaining 20 lbs to be at average NFL QB weight wont be an issue. I thought it was a great move by the Vikings to step up and take him.
