I have convinced my wife to go to Bonnaroo with me this year. She is a country girl, but still doesn't to much care for being out camping for 4 days. She is mostly worried about her "monthly gift" coming during Bonnaroo. So I told her I would ask/search around Inforoo for some answers as to what people have done in the past. So, any tips to help with that problem coming up..or any tips/ideas that have helped you in the past with any type of female need. Also, what do yall do about sitting on the porta-potties...just hover?<---- she didn't ask that...i'm just interested haha.
Male, but I can tell you first-hand from an experience the Cinnamon Girl and I had: if she gets caught by surprise without the required supplies on hand, she (or you) can go to any first aid station and explain the situation and they'll be happy to help her out. Especially the female medics -- they get it.
This happened to us in, I think, 2009. We were in Centeroo and she was too embarrassed to approach the medics so I did. They were totally cool with it; hooked her right up with pads & tampons & wipes.
I'd say you have 2 options: Be prepared or, if it is a surprise, ask a neighbor if they have any supplies. People are friendly and will understand. Oh and bring baby wipes! They are great for wiping some dirt off on a daily basis and will be super helpful if aunt flo visits.
And yes....I hover. I avoid touching anything that I don't have to in a porta-potty.

Potty-pack = 1 gallon ziplock baggie with TP roll + one quart size ziploc with baby wipes (label it!) + one quart size ziploc with clorox wipes (now you see why you label them and Hand sanitizer. Jam it all in the gallon baggie and BOOM, good to go.
Then you can wipe down the seat with clorox, and sit in comfort to handle the "real" biz. Fresh TP and baby wipes to get fresh and clean clean. Hand sanitizer to use between clorox seat touching and lady bits touching, and after for normal hygiene practice.
For lady times - bring all the normal stuff just in case, and if Aunt Flo shows up she'll be ready! And if not, everyone else's advice is spot on - ask neighbors or medics. Nature happens and everyone knows about it, so people will be happy to help!

Great story about why you should label the bags too It was a couple years ago, and it's morning time so everyone is kind of hanging around camp, having coffee and discussing the last day's shows, hitting up the portos, and my brother wanders in and says, "Hey sister, do we have any more wipes?" I say, "Yeah brother, lemme get them for you." and he says, "You know, the ones that sting?" ............. I looked at him and said, "You realize you've been using clorox wipes on your junk."

yep. to cut down on space, i typically flatten a few rolls when half or 1/3 of them are remaining and stick 'em in my bonnaroo porto-bag. i'd toss a couple aleve in there too bc there's nothing worse than than tramping all over in the hot sun and being super crampy. (for camp, storing your TP in a tall cd spool works great!)
i typically hover over the seat except for "real" situations, in which case the clorox wipes are fantastic. *some* portos have a bar inside the door and when i'm tired and there's a bar in there, i cover my left hand with a wet wipe and hang off the bar to give my leg muscles a little break.
most importantly, she'll be fine. there are a billion friendly women around who've all been there.

For extra space, I usually pre-tear before leaving for roo. Then I have a "day pack" that I take to centeroo and just restock that day by day. Plenty of tp and plenty of space.

With four ladies in the group, we do the potty pack too. A small ziplock with a decent amount of toilet paper and two wipes, one for the seat before you sit and one for your hands when you're finished. I would bring a box of supplies just in case too. We all carry a few of the ziplocks with us all the time. There was nothing nicer than arriving at a portapot right after the cleaning crew and having a nice clean loo.
Potty packs are indispensable. And don't forget to throw a headlamp in....it's no fun for the ladies to try and hit the potties at night without being able to see, um, what's gone on before they got in there. i've had to walk out of many a potty at night because hovering wouldn't have worked with the messes that seem to happen at night. Also very wise to find the potties that are/have just been cleaned.
Your girl may also talk to her ob/gyn. My gyn helps me each year time my birth control pills to avoid the unexpected menstrual visitor while on site. The goal, as I see it, is to spend as brief a period of time in the potties as possible. I have avoided that situation each year by timing out my birth control pills, beginning right around now. Just a thought....
FYI...I found that Charmin makes portable packs of paper seat covers. They come five to a pack, so two or three can be used at a time for very little cost. I found mine at Target in the travel-size bins, usually only $1.99 a pack. I've taken them to Roo every year since 2006 and wouldn't dream of going without them.
Target sample/travel bin section is where it's at for assembling those potty packs! They have clorox wipes and wet ones, cottonelle wet wipes, baby wipes, disinfectant spray, hand sanitizer, everything you want and/or need!
Also, I always bring a container of pads and tampons when I camp because you never know who might need them. I just stash it in my car and put a few in my Centeroo bag each morning.

She has been breast Feeding so she could only take certain types of Birth Control, and it doesn't work like the normal kind according to her.
Hey, I know how the transition from breastfeeding can be rough especially when trying to calculate that time of the month. Aside from prepping with the tips we've given here she can start using evening primrose oil and red raspberry leaf tea which will help get things back on a normal cycle.

man if she is one of the lucky women who didn't have a period while breastfeeding (I was, spent almost 2 years without one due to pregnancy + BF, it was fantastic) I'm sure it will be a transition. but to reiterate what everyone else has said, just tell her to be prepared and ask for stuff if she needs it! and also tell her roo is a magical place where everyone is friendly and awesome so seriously, just ask, people will be nice! hope you guys have a great time!
My croo has dealt with girl time for the last couple of years. Potty packs are supremely important, even if it's not girl time. I use a trial-sized lysol spray (sanitizes and deals with smell!), wet wipes, tp and hand sanitizer for portos. We have a privacy tent, too, with a "toilet" and shower. I tried to time my trips back to camp so I could take care of girl time business in my own porto. Honestly, I didn't think I'd survive my first roo on my period, but it wasn't that bad, especially since the portos were cleaner and more abundant than at past roos. Good luck to her! It's not comfortable, but it's doable!
I think we are all strong women and end up having to face those rare icky and/or painful moments. I have yet to experience the dread of Aunt Flo at Bonnaroo. I honestly am one of the horror story victims where I'm held up in bed for days crying into a pillow in the fetal position. So, I'm crossing my fingers it will not happen. I do plan on bringing high dosages of Ibuprofen(perscribed in my name), which usually numbs the cramps well. My first year I had a friend who was on her monthly happy week (hehe) and was stuck in line for 8+ hours. At first she was pretty upset when she needed to go and we were all running into an unfenced wooded area our car was by and did our business. She finally got over it and went and did her thing. She came back and was smiley, saying how it wasn't that bad. Just let the bonnaroo mood kick in and you won't care.

I don't know if it's something she'd be into or not, but personally I can't say enough good things about menstrual cups. (And to the menfolk who read this, I apologize for making you think about such things.) If she's not familiar with the concept, it might be worth looking into - at this point there's still time for her (or anyone else who's thinking of trying one!) to have a cycle or two to get used to it before Bonnaroo. My shark week managed to ruin many a vacation or other special event when I was younger, and the thought of having to deal with that at Roo was absolutely terrifying, but now that I use a cup it really wouldn't be that bad. I constantly find myself forgetting that I'm actually on my period. (If anyone's got questions about menstrual cups, feel free to PM me if you want!)
I mentioned this before in another thread, but for tent camping, I highly recommend combining the PETT WAG Bags with something like the Reliance Luggable Loo. There's a gel crystal in the bags that soaks up liquid, deodorizes and biodegrades the contents, and you bag it up in an interior bag and an exterior ziploc after each use. You can use it in the tent, no odor and almost no noise. No middle of the night trips to portos.
and Hand sanitizer. Jam it all in the gallon baggie and BOOM, good to go.
