"Jones says the team, so far this offseason, has lost 207 pounds of fat and gained 359 pounds of muscle. At this point last season, no one on the team could squat at least 600 pounds. Right now, nine players can."
Better late than never. The piece of the squats are more encouraging because you would figure that the O-Line is much of the driving force behind that, and Tennessee just lost their entire starting O-Line. It's nice to know there are some big guys coming up behind them.

RB's are always high on that list as well. Knowing nothing about UT's current state, if they have any beastly RB's they're definitely on that list of nine.

The existing RBs were decent. The ones that just signed are probably better though.

Peaking at their roster, they have some big RB's. Jalen Hurd is 6'3" (!?) 227 pounds. Is he just being listed big? That's a tall RB.
Not bad for someone who wasn't even trying, though.
He was trying harder than he did all season. Spurrier was asked about his work ethic(because you know it's not just me saying he's lazy) and he said "He's ok". Glowing review from the ol ball coach. How about the weak ass reps he did on the bench?
Clowney has 34.5" arms. People have been bringing up the RB's and how a bunch of them beat his bench rep total. The longest arms of the guys that beat him were 32", and these guys were all short, stocky builds. Fucking JC Copleland weighs 270 pounds! The indicators of explosion, especially for people that will play his position, are the broad and vertical jumps. Clowney was 2nd for DL in both, which is way more important than how many times his tentacle arms can lift 225.
Know who also sucked at the bench at the combine? JPP(19), Robert Quinn (22), Cameron Wake (20), Greg Hardy (21), Michael Bennett (24), Rob Ninkovich (23), Carlos Dunlap (21), Derrick Morgan (21), Chandler Jones (22), Jared Allen (13!), Justin Tuck (24), Tamba Hali (18), Aldon Smith (20), Trent Cole (15), Clay Matthews (23), Connor Barwin (23).
I just had the best work luncheon ever. The speaker was the head of SEC conference officials, and he told some awesome stories. He was the one that broke his leg when a player collided with it at the LSU-Louisiana Tech game several years ago. That break developed compartment syndrome & he almost lost his leg. But he didn't & got back to officiating the next season. He'll retire in 3 years with 25 years as a SEC official. He played at UGA, so I liked him. He talked about the targeting & kickoff rules, how officials are graded, their schedules on football weekends. Said McFadden, Newton, & Tebow were the best SEC players he had seen play as an official. It was sooo entertaining, made even better because he was speaking to a women's organization.
Honestly, I was more interested today to read about the decisions on the NFL rule changes this coming year. I know it's important and all, but I don't see it having that immediate impact on the product that is put on the field as rule changes do.
Also, who gives a fuck about Northwestern? They're an academic school.
I think you'll see it's a considerable change, but it won't be felt for a couple years.
I just hope Sang is okay because this will eventually lead to a day where he can't use his "play for the right reasons" spiel when down-talking professional athletes.

Yeah. That is more in line with my reasoning. One team that I don't follow in another conference doesn't show up on my radar. If/when it starts to reach that critical mass where it becomes either a majority or at least a considerable force will be when I start paying more attention to it.
Edit: I would be infinitely pleased if this somehow leads to there being college football games again.

The ruling will be appealed and battled in courts for years, but we are finally starting to see some change that should have happened years ago. Also, at this time, the ruling only applies to private schools, but I'm sure it won't be long, or hard, before someone makes the same case for public universities as well.
When the lawsuit was first announced I thought the NW athletes may have overshot the target, part of me still feels this way, but I'm hoping the end result is somewhere in the middle.
