That is great news. I saw Jeff a couple of times over the last year of so and it was great but it's not the same by a lot.
me too, I kind of expected this was happening though because when they announced his last dates, it said his last solo acoustic tour, not last tour ever

So, this is the new Pavement reunion, right? And by that I mean, critically-adored but commercially-ignored 90's indie rock band gets back together, trendy people everywhere act like they're totes excited because they've been fans since like forever ("forever" meaning since people made a big deal out of the band reuniting), the shows are packed with people being bored and talking and taking pictures on their iPhones to show everyone that they were at the cool big reunion show?
I really don't know much about them at all, or Pavement for that matter. But over the last week I have brought their reunion up in conversation a few times only to responses of "who?", my go to response has been "They're pretty much this years Pavement". So I'm right there with ya.

I don't know about the other parts, but you're f*ckin right I'm going to take pictures.
Never really cared for them as much as The Olivia Tremor Control and of Montreal. of Montreal is my favorite elephant 6 band and one of my favorite live bands. I know for a fact that Jugs is correct with the trendy bandwagoneers accusation though because I know of at least 2 people in my fb feed that bought tickets for one of the Athens shows that had no idea who NMH even were until the hype of Jeff Magnum solo shows last year brought it to their attention.

I didn't jump on the Pavement bandwagon (thought it was cool they were getting together again but I wasn't into them before so wasn't dying to catch them live) but I do know that a roommate of mine at the time got really into them primarily because he wasn't really aware of them while they were broken up. The reunion news is what introduced him to the band after others had talked about it and he got really into it. Wasn't so much because it was the cool thing to do but because he discovered them late.
Though there are definitely those types that will act like it's the biggest thing in their life despite not giving a shit if they get back together a year ago.

I can't believe Half Japanese are actually playing The Tabernacle. It's so cool that NMH is bringing such awesome openers on this tour. It makes sense, though: Mangum made a solid Jad Fair joke at his Atlanta show last year.
Hopefully your venue won't be as strict as the one where I'm seeing them. Their show announcement today clearly states "This show is WILL CALL ONLY with FORCED ENTRY. You will not be able to pickup your tickets until doors open and will immediately have to enter the venue. NO PHOTOGRAPHY/NO VIDEO RECORDING ALLOWED; this includes cell phones." They enforced the hell outta that policy at the Jack White show last year (to the point of ejecting violators), so I'm guessing they will for this one, too.
What's the big deal about taking a few pics of a band? Sure, a concert experience is more enjoyable if you can see the performers on stage without a thousand handheld glowing rectangles obscuring your view, but geez...it seems a bit excessive. Why should having indie street cred give artists the right to be a control freak and/or schmuck?
Heads up for anyone planning to buy tickets: This show is WILL CALL ONLY with FORCED ENTRY and a limit of 4 tickets per purchase. You will not be able to pickup your tickets until doors open and will immediately have to enter the venue.

There was such an outcry, my venue posted this: "...Since we had over 1000 orders at 2 minutes after we actually were essentially sold out the minute they went on sale"

It makes him incredibly uncomfortable. It has nothing to do with being a control freak or schmuck. When people violate the no photography rule, he barely looks up or talks. I don't blame him. I ALWAYS take at least a few pics at shows but I won't for this one because I respect the guy.
Anyway, my friend got us tickets to the Covington show. I'm SO excited.

Lucky us.
Yeah, sometimes in their excitement (or ignorance), people forget all about logic and reason when it comes to tickets going on sale. If a band that tons of people like is going on tour (a limited one at that) for the first time in 15 years, there's probably going to be a pretty high demand for tickets. Add to that, if that band is also playing at a 1,500 person venue when they could sell out a venue twice that size, tickets are going to go even faster.
