I'm pretty sure that had some big soccer game on in the Cinema tent last year or maybe the year before....... I'm not a sports fan so I don't know for sure though.
Ethnocentrism: the belief in the inherent superiority of one's own ethnic group or culture.
Example: Showing the NBA finals instead of European Soccer at a music festival in the United States where Soccer is not very popular? I think it may be more about level of interest than anything else.
I really hope there is someplace to watch the games especially since I don't have to watch England since they didn't qualify. But I do agree trippindaisy I don't think there will be enough interest to have them show them.

I did not intend for those two statements to necessarily be connected to one another, which I was I deliberately put them on seperarte lines.
Well I would prefer the Soccer, but I doubt it. On the other hand Watching the World cup with some random Brazilian guy in '06 was the bomb. I was suprised how many people were soccer fans. I had a wifi equipped PDA and after people around me realized it they were bugging me for the scores every 15 minutes.
i'll definitely be there if they show some sort of soccer game. i think it'd be a lot of fun to have a bunch of soccer fans in a tent watching the game!
I'd rather see the Finals personally. I'm sorry if that's too "American" for you all, but Soccer just bores me. I mean I'd rather watch some Football or Baseball over either of them, but Soccer is just painful to watch...

I personally think it would make total sense to have hoops on than soccer and don't think it's "too American" or ethnocentric.
I was just wondering if there is any chance in hell that I'll be able to see some footie.
As far as "boring" goes, it amazes me that people are able to sit through 4+ hours of a baseball game where there may be 20 minutes of actual play and compalin about the pace of soccer. ???
I understand, appreciate (to an extent) and am very familiar with the game of baseball. And have come to this conclusion: THIS is the boring sport...
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
i can't really get through a whole game... if i'm AT the game more time is spent in beer lines than in my seat watching
or paying attention to the jumbotron
Yeah...
But it is neat to watch and analyze the different strategies that are being implemented and then seeing how it all plays out. Especially in the World Series. (Which by the way is a pet peeve of mine. WORLD? Oh really? Was there a "world" tournament I missed?)
Anyway, I actually LOVED the Ken Burns Baseball documentary. Loved hearing Bob Costas comment how it is a thinking game. For example, if you're a runner on base, sooo many different scenarios can happen and you have to react instantly. How many outs... who else is on base... how hard was it hit... can I make it to third... how deep is the right fielder playing... how is his arm... what to do on a line drive... how good is the hitter... what's the count... what's the pitcher throwing...
Like I said, I can appreciate the game. But 162 3-4 hour games??? Ugh. Talk about boring.
I would much rather see the Euro than the NBA finals, unfortunately the Greeks failed to qualify so i have a tad less interest than i would though. I don't see anything wrong with them showing the NBA because it appeals to a wider audience, but people can get pretty rowdy watching football just the same.

i would much rather them play the finals. not that it really matters because i really don't see myself taking the time to go watch a basketball game. even if it is the finals and even if it is my beloved cavaliers. after all, i am at bonnaroo. hopefully it will go seven games and i will be home by then to watch it.
