I missed all the marriage stuff, because ummm WORK IS HELL. I have been stupid busy, this new system is dumb has gitches, and sucks ass. A new company acquired the production department, and the production managers are still with my company and don't have access to anything anymore. I haven't even been able to fuck off and I have been working late every day. I almost quit, and I LOVE my job usually. So frustrated. I can't keep up on the boards, and probably won't see any responses until Saturday. FML. /rant

I went to work today at six like usual ahead of the probability of freezing rain. I start the day like usual then we get an email at eight that the office is closed due to weather. A bonus day off is always great, but a) I had to reschedule appointments I already rescheduled last week, b) when I called them, they can't do them on the same day next week so one is up in the air until I get back to the office, c) due to the fuckery that is our HR policy, I'm not sure if I'll have to take some annual leave today even though I was in the office for two hours and I couldn't work after the office was officially closed.
So as some of you might know, I work at a warehouse for a large retail company.
It surprises me how often I hear co-workers talking about buying things from our biggest rival. Why would you go to the rival when (a) it could be going back into where your paychecks are coming from, and (b) you have an employee discount. Granted it's 10%, but if you're buying a higher priced item - it certainly helps.
I'm exactly the same way,and the first month of wearing my ring was torturous. But now I feel weird when I take it off. Plus it gives me something to play with when I'm bored.
I used to tap mine on everything, so it's probably a positive for everyone else that I don't have one anymore. Haha.
Porch doesn't wear one. Drives him crazy. It's in the medicine cabinet...i think hahahaha You dont HAVE to wear a ring.

It's amazing the amount of paranoia that exists in the workplace. Mine is preparing to offer a bunch of voluntary buyouts to people in an attempt to do some reorganization of job classifications within the organization. The offers are being made to everyone in the job classification that they want to eliminate/reclassify/move/etc. It's completely motivated by the classification they are in and not the specific person. It's also a voluntary buyout. If they offer it and nobody takes it, it's no big deal. Regardless of this, my admin thinks it's a plot to get him to quit so they can promote another admin and another co-worker thinks they are trying to force him out before he hits full retirement. Both are completely unwilling to listen to any sort of reason about it . The idea that they are doing an organization-wide overhaul to fuck over just them is completely reasonable in their eyes.
What do y'all do to kill time? I just cleaned my mouse and keyboard for the third time this month. No, I do not shed dead skin at an alarming rate. Just an ADD afflicted bad employee. Am I alone in this?

If you have time to lean, you have time to clean.
I don't think I'll ever survive in an office setting. My Commercial Baking teacher told me about a job she had specs for, I think I'll ask her about it tomorrow.

Sure you're not still working with psych patients?

I conveniently place my lunchbag on my desk so no one can see my computer screen. And I switch back and forth between inforoo/amazon/buzzfeed. Sometimes i get so bored I take the quizzes on buzzfeed. And amazon is just me looking for good deals. Sometimes I wishlist a lot of things and then get so bored I go back and look at the reviews and remove stuff from my wishlist. It's a pretty good system i've got going on.
I would probably clean more, except there's a lady who is "highly allergic" to cleaning products and she has to go home every time someone pulls out a Clorox wipe or spray bc she can't breathe. Keep in mind she sits like 15 cubicles away from me and told on me once for it. To be fair, i didn't know she was allergic. After she went home that day, i was nicely told not to do that again and then everyone giggled and went about their business.

I would surf the web way more 1) if my back didn't face the door 2) if I wasn't terrified of the web monitoring system IT implemented a while back. I positioned one screen so it's pretty invisible from the isle I sit along side but I still have this fear I'm going to get an email one day from my boss or IT saying "Heeeeeeey, just wondering.... What's inforoo??" And then the jig will be up. Even now, I'm typing this on my phone because I already logged on a couple times from my desktop

I do too much Amazon shopping while I'm working and have nothing better to do. The deals of the day always get me.

I work in IT, so let me just tell you. We don't care what you are doing as long as it isn't illegal or eating up the company's bandwith (constant streaming).

I do this too! I've bought so much random stuff off of Amazon while I'm at work.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

This makes me feel better.
Ya. I mean if it's a decent IT organization, they are going to have anything that would really get you in trouble blocked anyways. I'm on Inforoo a lot at work, but I'm also still productive and timely with my assignments. I think if you're good on that, then it really doesn't matter.

My IT person told me something similar. She's too backlogged fixing issues caused by people who don't know how to use a computer to start analyzing people's internet history. As long as you're not downloading viruses, she doesn't care.

Our best client by a huge margin is laying off 90% of their contractors and not hiring for 6+ months. Which means for the next 6 months all I will be doing is grunt work on openings that are harder to fill and offer much less commission. I primarily feel bad for the people who are going to be laid off but I also am going to lose about $1750 in commission a month for the next 6 months. I had that money reserved for paying off my car lease damages and a down-payment on a new car. I have to turn my car in this July, I'm 15k over the miles already, the car is a wreck on the inside, and has scratches on all 4 doors and now I'm going to have to buy the stupid thing. Can I keep my mouth shut and be a good employee until my vacations are done for the year and I can look for new work? Very doubtful.
That's alot of cash to lose out on, sorry to hear. Layoffs suck for everyone involved. You lose your job, it sucks. You are lucky enough to keep your job, the workload becoming ridiculous or you still lose out on money like you are.
With that one client it was me fighting against 2-3 people for commissions that were usually around $500-750/month. These other clients have me fighting against 6-20 people for $75-125/month commissions. This one client was the only reason I was making real money here. My apartment lease is up right around Bonnaroo. Really makes pursuing those Silicon Valley jobs a much easier decision.

6 years ago I tried to buy a car. I had no student loans and no credit cards so I didn't have a credit score. It's not like my credit score was low, it didn't exist. I was called a credit ghost and unable to buy new or used cars. Because of that my only options were leasing. I beat the shit out of my first car and the penalties were so high that I had to get a lease on another new car. It is a horrible cycle but I didn't really have a choice.
My sister used to lease too but I think it was because she liked to change cars every two years or something like that.

See this scenario I can understand. Do you think you're going to buy the car you're leasing now and keep it for awhile?
