So the ladyfriend's first date at her assignment was going to be May 4th then it got pushed back to the 11th then the 18th then the 26th. While I was at Shaky Knees, it got moved back up the the 18th. Today, they signed the official agreement and informed her she was purchasing her flight out tomorrow which basically made it a 100% lock. Three hours later, she finds out her boss has put in a request for her to not start until June 1st that may or may not be granted. I like it buying her a little bit more time here before she leaves for an extended period, but getting the date moved so much is making it impossible for her to make any concrete plans or do all the final prep for her move.
Wow, that level of change would drive me crazy. Especially with something as major as a move across country. Hopefully they get it nailed down soon.
Yeah. It's crazy that they signed the agreement three or four days before her flight out. Moving 2/3 of the way across the country is kind of a big deal that requires a little preparation.
Guys. this blows. I just found out, FOR THE 3RD FUCKING TIME, I'm on the layoff list. It's just a maybe at this point, but on June 30th, there is 50% chance I'll be let go. Which is really sad bc My team of 4 people has been reduced to just me. So if they let me go, there won't be anybody to do the job. My boss is freaking out, too.
I guess I'm gonna party a little extra harder at roo now. Because the real world kinda sucks, and Bonnaroo doesnt.

That sucks! If I run into you, beer's on me...
just kinda put a damper on my roo planning bc I've been spending money and I guess I shouldn't be.
Thanks though. I wish i could get a beer right now lol

Damn, that definitely sucks.
What would they do if they did let you go? Just close down that section of your department? I can't imagine they'd let go the only person doing that job, just to bring in someone else to do it. They'd have to train, go through probationary period, etc. Doesn't seem logical.

Fingers crossed it doesn't happen!
Honestly, I have no clue. Because we have been dealing with this issue for so long, everyone has jumped shipped but me. And everytime, they take away the vacant position so my boss literally cannot even hire anyone right now. I'm thankful she at least told me, because HR doesn't want to pay severances and if they let people know so far in advance, they have to pay severance, or something like that. So they are waiting until the end of June to let people walk. 21 people are subject to be let go. Most of those people are retiring or have retired and come back and are being re-let go. I'm on the bottom of the list, but it's still on the list.
It would probably fall on my boss. She recently lost her dad who lived with her, her daughter is about to go off to college, and her husband and her are going through a divorce and she has a 1 year old son. She asked that they kindly let her know if they are going to let me go so she can go see someone for medicine so she doesn't go crazy and harm people in the office. She didn't seem to be joking when she told me that. I know she's been having problems, but she seemed extra bothered today. Which makes me think I probably will be let go.
You can only escape the lay off list so many times... right? I've been lucky twice, so far.

Even if the blade misses you a third time, I would keep looking elsewhere. That place sounds way too unstable, ain't nobody got time fo that.

Back in 2008, I was working at some (shit) company. I got hired as a temp in January, and things were going good until about May/June. Then people started getting walked out every Friday, one or two each week - or every other week. It was hell, worrying every Friday that you'd be next. I survived a while, made it until the end of October at least. More than half of the department was gone at that point.
Fun fact: I was brought back for a couple months in 2010. The day I got walked the second time, I went home and within a half hour bought a ticket to Bonnaroo. Seemed like the perfect opportunity.

same, and if it helps I've still got that crack for you on my "Bring to Brunch list"!
Landed a new job that I've been trying for the past 6 months to get!! Only one downside.... this is probably my last Bonnaroo for a while as summer vacations are pretty much non existent with the new gig....definitely my last one as a volunteer, IF I can manage coming I'd probably be a Friday morning - Sunday afternoon patron from now on.... being a grown up sure does suck sometimes...at least they let me keep this year..So maybe the lack of interest in the lineup will be a good thing and allow me to cross off some of my last remaining Bonnaroo bucket list items!
Oye. I just landed a new position that is making me sell my Mountain Jam ticket and will knock it off the table for the foreseeable future. It also will make other festivals hard for me- none specifically right now, but I just really have to check and double check dates of things before booking in the future. Right now I basically can take off whenever I want from April to November. It's going to be a big change But no Bonnaroo? That would be death. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that the event that happens the first weekend of June never moves to the second... I keep getting waives of anxiety every time I think about it! Sorry about your Roo loss!
I'm thinking I'll still be able to go Friday-Sunday... guess I can't deny to myself that I'm one of the "old" Bonnaroo people anymore!
I usually volunteer though and that is out the window. I really like getting there the Sunday before everything starts, helping get things ready, the extra 4 days on the farm, the friends I've made volunteering over the years.. I guess I have to grow up some day... I think resisting until my early-mid thirties wasn't such a bad run?
I'm so upset right now. Just got my annual review (I work at a college Barnes & Noble). My department was #1 in our region in sales compared to last year, #2 in units sold compared to last year, and #3 in sales compared to budget (out of 24 stores). I bring this up as reasoning as why I think I deserve a better review than I got, and he told me in not so many words that sales are up across the board this year due to our school recruiting a larger freshman class, so my department's increase in sales doesn't really mean much. But of course, since sales are up across the board for our store, he's gonna get a nice fat bonus out of it.
Earlier this year the director for our region and the VP OF THE FUCKING COMPANY noticed I was doing such a good job that they wanted to move me to Columbia University because it's a top-tier store and they thought I would do well there. I run all the events in our store as well, and I have an email from the EVENTS DIRECTOR FOR THE WHOLE COMPANY to Bethenny Frankel's publicist explicitly stating that she's in good hands because I'm (and I quote) "the BEST in all our stores at running events" [emphasis not mine]. But of course, according to my boss I really need to step up how I run and promote events. Not to mention that last fall my department (because it was doing so well) was greatly expanded throughout the store - a large months-long project that was by far the biggest task I've had yet so far at my job - and it went off without a single hitch. And let's not forget that my staff went from seven people down to five and the number of hours I was allowed to give was reduced by 9%, requiring more work for everyone and more schedule-juggling for me. Compared to last year we got better sales in every category, with less staff.
And what review do I get? "Average". And a low average score at that. What pisses me off the most is that he's gonna profit and get credit for an increase in sales, while simultaneously discrediting the increase in sales in my department because attendance has increased at the school. I haven't gotten a single "thank you" or "I appreciate what you do" from him this entire year - and I can live with that - but then to not even check the box that would give me an extra percent and a half raise, even though it costs him absolutely nothing to do so? I'm not okay with that. I feel so underappreciated by him. He can go fuck himself with a pinecone.

I'm a pharmacy technician and work is more than hell. People have been especially rude lately and it's so hard not to choke people. I did have a nice guy come in to transfer meds and when I pulled up his profile, I saw that he was from Manchester. So we chattend about Bonnaroo for a bit and that was nice. Work is making me drink more, though. But at least I'm learning good recipes?

Literally the shittiest thing I've heard all day. That is garbage and I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

I used to work as a pharmacy tech for CVS and you have my empathy. That was one of the worst jobs I ever had. It always seemed like I was the straw that broke the camels back at that job when it came to customers. Not something I did; it usually had to do with the patient's insurance company.

I work for CVS now. But I worked for Walmart and left pharmacy altogether. 3 months in a other position and I missed pharmacy so bad. My heart is in that job. And CVS is a billion times better than Walmart. Haha I work in a shit area though. People think they're entitled and shit. Bleh. No good.

My wife used to work at Walmart as a pharmacy tech and I've heard some crazy stories. Like how a patient threw an ice cream cone at her one day. The CVS I worked at wouldn't have been so bad if we weren't so understaffed. After I got another job I talked with someone that worked at another CVS and he told me the regional manager for my store was known to under staff stores so he could get a bigger bonus.

Hey fellow pharmacy workers. Ever have someone throw their bottle at you because you forgot to put on the easy off top? I've learned to duck real good.

That brings up what I was going to comment on Jaz's story from earlier. If he gets a bigger raise, will it affect his manager's bonus? Some managers will cut things like employee wages as low as possible in order to keep their overhead down.

I've had merchandise thrown at me many times. hahahha. Never bottles, though. Yet.
I feel like I'm responsible for the deaths of many trees. (We do recycle all our paper, so at least there's that.)
I feel you. We need so much back up documentation for all our audit files, everything needs to be bundled up and routed for wet signatures before being scanned in electronically. #planetfail
At Cheesecake we recycle only cardboard- not bottles from the bar or the endless wasted paper products (ex. receipts and such). It actively drives me up the wall.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I hate when the companies I have or am working for pretend to be a "zero waste" store and then behind the scenes waste so much product and neglect the principles they say they stand for. I'm only a supervisor but it definitely gets frustrating when you see cardboard and paper be thrown in the trash when there is a mixed recycled container right there!!
