Just thought I'd transcribe his Coachella rant. "When I made [808s & Heartbreaks] I was in a very dark place in my life. That's why the title ended in "heartbreak," losing everything that was important to me. And I always said when I was working on the last album, I can't wait to perform "Power" at Coachella. So this is the most important show to me since my mom passed. And to be able to close the festival and see all of you, who still love me after everything I went on TV and said, for us to still go platinum, for us to still have number ones, to have fans that were here since "Through The Wire." That you ain't believed sh*t that they said. And I really appreciate y'all tonight. 'Cause you know I'm only trying to say and do what's right. I only want better for y'all, better for us, the best music possible. I'm not the best singer in the world, but the notes, the notes and the feelings inside me, so f*ck it, I went ahead and did it. And to have this moment is so unbelievable. There's many times I thought about not being here, and you all made it all worth it."

Okay, obviously anybody would be happy to listen to that as stage banter including myself. Other times I have seen him it was more along the lines of...
Y'all don't know how lucky you are to be here tonight with me. You're going to be telling your children and grandchildren about this night. I will go down as the Jimi Hendrix of our generation. etc. etc. (I think this is from lolla 2008, but not a far cry from a lot of recent interviews and such)

This is what I don't enjoy.
I would hate hear this or any other stage banter from Kanye, that would mean I was at a Kanye show and would have to endure the music as well. :-)
So he's what we would call a "human," who might say or do things we don't like from time to time.
Seriously, it's crazy to think Kanye will be the "Hendrix of our generation." Kanye is way better.
I actually don't disagree. Its not absurd to put them in the same conversation in terms of musical relevance (or possibly with time, influence). What I'm talking about is saying it out loud in regard to yourself, which even if true, is off-putting to many including myself.

i wasn't present at roo 2008 but was just talking about the "fuck kanye" culture with a roo friend yesterday. i'm not a fan of yeezus christ per se so i wouldn't have been one of the people waiting on his performance but as a festival-goer i have to say that a show happening on What as the sun rises would be nice even if only for the additional "entertainment" option at an hour when the options may be limited. having said that, the tardy-ness of kanye in roo circles isn't relevant anymore because it just fuels his fire and it's a waste of your life to discuss a pop star at such length.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
As one of the only people to wait to get into the Kanye pit since before PJ in 08 and leave the show with absolute heartbreak, I really hope he is here. He is hands down one of my favorite artists. I hope he's there and totally redeems himself. I don't see it happening, but I would be completely ecstatic. This is coming from the man that is going to marry Taylor Swift too.
Interesting about the comparison between the Hendrix woodstock show and the Kanye Roo show is that the Hendrix show was actually panned pretty harshly directly afterward. hardly anyone was left, he said he did not play well, etc. It is just iconic for its time though (which Kanye's show was not).
Anyway, it is very upsetting to me that this is still going on 6 years later and that Kanye will likely never play the farm again because of it. He is the greatest hip hop artist of all time, have 4 total classic albums, and dozens of amazing songs. I have seen him live 3 times since the Roo set (which I saw alone as all my friends went to bed) and he has gotten better every time.

The answer to the OG posters question is yes, absolutely.
And tardiness isn't the right word. Megalomaniac would be more appropriate.
I'll give credit where credit is due - the man has produced some fantastic hip hop records but he is one of the worst emcee's to ever get a record deal.
