Liking Magic 3 better than Magic 2 so far easily.
I do have a really hardcore nitpick on one song. For me, this is up there with all time song ruining lines but its in a way I feel like I haven't experienced before.
So Nas and Hitboy have dropped 6 albums in 3 years. Many olds feel like at a minimum 4 of the previous 5 would fall into a list of Nas' best 7-8 albums. It's absolutely a historic late stage run in the genre. This 6th and final album feels like a victory lap. And here we have a song called "Superhero Status." A song with this title on this album should be an ultimate representation of Nas fucking gliding like nobody else can. A superhero showcase.
The first line of this song is, "The difference between you and I's spittin's a wide difference."
On all 3 of my listens so far, I spend the next 45 second to a minute going through the following thought process:
1. Why did he say "difference" twice? That's redundant. Thats really bad writing. I do that sometimes but usually catch it when I read back what I wrote. It's crazy that someone considered to be a GOAT writer in the genre would put this out.
2. That's like a superhero stubbing his toe right out the gate.
3. Man this is so much more noticeable because it's the first line. I remember when I first started getting into rap, someone told me that a rappers ability to write a great opening line for a verse is a huge deal that nobody talks about enough.
4. Can one line ruin a song? Surely this isn't a big deal. I can get over this.

5. This is always going to annoy me.
Yeah, I've listened a few times now, and the new one is definitely better than Magic 2 which I didn't really care for. This is how I'd rank his latest 6 King Disease & Magic releases:
Agree, he's been on a great late career run with these albums and don't think he's really received the recognition he deserves outside his main fans. Not many from his era are still doing it on that level especially considered the volume and quality of the releases.

I think the biggest difference in our rankings is that I would still drop Magic 3 a few slots and I would consider KD2 > Magic. KD2 still has 3 of my top 5 songs from this whole run in Store Run, Moments and Rare. I think that album has Hitboys best stuff in it, but Magic is when Nas truly tapped into his prime again… basically for that one and KD3.

KD3
KD2 Magic
Magic 3 KD1
Magic 2
Just realized i put Magic 2 twice... meant to put Magic 2 at the bottom and Magic 3 up higher.
If i were doing tiers, it would be Magic 1 and KD 3 at the top for me. Those two are my favs for sure and pretty interchangeable for the top spot. Then KD 2 and Magic 3 are both solid but just below the other two. KD 1 was ok even tho it has one of my favorite songs on any of the six albums with The Cure. Magic 2 was my least favorite but had a couple decent tracks.

Favorite Hip-Hop Albums 2023 with Tier cutoffs
1. JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown - Scaring the Hoes Vol. 1 (9/10)
2. Slowthai - UGLY (rapist/10) 3. Armand Hammer - We Buy Diabetic Test Strips (8.25/10) 4. Tyler, the Creator - The Estate Sale (just counting the 8 new songs as a project)
8. Travis Scott - Utopia (7/10) 9. Danny Brown - Quaranta (7/10) 10. Real Bad Man & Blu - Bad News (7/10)
Others that I got a decent level of enjoyment from: Black Thought & El Michels Affair, Aesop Rock, Key Glock, Navy Blue, Nas (Magic 3), Westside Gunn, Tkay Maidza, Noname
Kinda of a dumb clickbaity list but overall, I do sort of agree or at least see why they picked who they picked.
I'm not really sure where Doom would fit on this list
He definitely should have been the best in 2004, at least.
Nvm after looking at what came out you are totally correct. I actually kind of think they just googled 2004 hip hip albums and picked the first one (T.I) lmao

Also normally a big fan of Fantano's 2nd channel which is more about music journalism rather then reviews but his last vid about Kai Cenat and now Kanye left a sour taste in my mouth :/

Also his Twitter is a mess right now
Video on the streamer stuff seemed pretty spot on to me. I don't think he should have given Vultures an "unreviewable." The premise of that is dishonest. He should have just given it a 2 and said he also doesn't want to listen to it again because of who Kanye is.
Yeah this is one of the best hiphop albums I've heard in awhile. All the features added so much while also blending in? Baby Rose, George Clinton, and Channel Tres especially
Not sure if these guys have ever been discussed here. They’re kinda silly but after my buddy showed them to me yesterday I might be obsessed. If you like early 90s Beastie Boys/Cypress Hill you might dig this. Maybe throw in a little Das Racist for good measure.
