still can't. never going to. because it doesn't make sense.
Dave Maynar find these guys a video where they can watch JP playing live (I can't play videos at work). then I want them to explain to me why they think it sucks.
Don't bother with that Dave Maynar, I won't watch it.
after all those shitty STS9 vids you made me watch, you gonna do me like that? at least I can tell you what I don't like about things. all I ever hear about Clutch is "they suck". help me understand.

Haha dude I've tried and tried Clutch. Just looking at my Last.fm I've started S/T and Blast Tyrant (and I know I've tried Beale Street To Oblivion on a separate occasion) and didn't get more than 3 songs into either. I told you why I think they suck. They're cheesy and light. It's like metal muzak. It's precisely because I like rock music that I don't like Clutch.
so is this based on the vocals or what? it has to be. those other guys throw down. jp is one of the best drummers on the planet.
Can you please clarify your "best drummers" comment? Does that include only living drummers? Just want to know how hard I should laugh.
you should probably watch him play before you decide to laugh. I think that's where the real problem is here. something about the band turns you off, so you're not paying attention. obviously I feel very strongly about this and I want other people to know how good they are. they're obviously overlooked and it puzzles me. especially because I know what you guys like and you should like them.

Sang, why do you think I dislike bands? Their clothes? Weird hair? Their name?
No, I dislike bands because I don't like the music they make. I do not dislike rock, or heavy rock, or music that is heavy on "riffing." I think I like that stuff more than most on this board, to be honest.
I don't like Clutch because I think their music is kinda boring. They need to either commit to being heavy or become a poppy rock band, but they're in some weird grey area that makes my ears want to commit suicide.

I don't know. I'm not pretending not to understand. I really don't understand. especially when you say things like poppy rock band which there are 0%. it just make me think you haven't really listened. but you probably feel that way when I say Kanye sucks.

Don't know what to tell you man. Do you want me to listen to their self-titled album tomorrow and write an extensive negative review?
well, I think for whatever reason you've already decided it would be negative. I would like you to listen to it. I would like you you to then tell you don't love those drums, basslines and the riff that keeps coming back as a theme on the album, because I know you like shit like that. if you want to write review that's great. at least I would know you at least listened to it. this band tends to rub people the wrong way. you either love them or hate them. it's almost to the level that it is with Rush.

Sang somehow you missed the part where I have attempted to listen to this album before and couldn't get through it because I didn't like it at all. My negative views on their music come from having listened to their music, no matter how much you wish they weren't.
, I remember saying something about nothing rocking this hard in 2004. I've been meaning to ask...what has rocked this hard since? Or at all? I feel like now is the time for you tell us.
I can do one from each decade. Call me out if any of these are cult classics. I don't always have my finger on the pulse of whats hip.
70s
James Chance and the Contortions - Buy
Aggressive saxophone driven post punk. Chance used to get real aggressive during shows, getting off stage and blowing his sax right into fans ears in order to start physical altercations. Wild stuff.
80s
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream 81828384
I don't know how it was reviewed then, honestly, but I think today this album is criminally overlooked. An outstanding arena rock record which for me at least marked the end of the post punk era. Simple Minds should have been huge.
90s
Lard - The Last Temptation of Reid
Al Jourgensen (Ministry) and Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys). Like a straight ahead Psalms 69 with Jello Biafra on vocals.
2000s
Von Sudenfed - Tromatic Reflexxions
Collaboration between Mark E. Smith (The Fall) and Mouse on Mars. Like a cranky old drunk man yelling at you in a bar filled with robots. Brilliant.
I feel like maybe you guys have never heard Black Sabbath.
I'm talking current. they're not Sabbath, Zeppelin, Rush, Cream, The Who. but they're up there for right now.
Maybe Sabbath's latest will be an overlooked album from this decade. I don't know anything about their replacement drummer. I know he tours with them but did not play on the new record.
I've been checking this thread out and love it. I'll put out a 60's list later. I'll leave the 80's 90's and noughts to you guys. Not sure if any of these are disqualified for being "cult classics" but it's hard to come up with sh*t that nobody on this board never heard of. I can guarantee you that these albums were pretty much "overlooked" at the time.
70's Jerry being Jerry without the Dead. Great Dylan covers and more.
This is Rory's most listenable album but he has so much more out there.
Never made it in the states but they should have.
An end to an epic group and the beginning of the Fleetwood Mac revolving door of musicians.
Rockabilly at it's best.
Nothing really out there like this at the time. A true original who still tours.
