Toughest month in ages. I'm loving Sukirae and I'm eager to hear the new Thom Yorke, but my vote goes to Planet Blue Eyes.
Is this the new Preatures album you're talking about? Isn't it Blue Planet Eyes? I dug their set this year and their Shaking Hands ep has a very Jefferson Airplane feel to it that I really enjoy. I'm just waiting for it to appear on my preferred music-getting website so that I can check it out too.
Also their lead singer is beautiful, so that helps.

Haha, whoops. Yes, I goofed... and this is why I should not be allowed to post on Monday morning after a poor night's sleep. Still, the vote stands.
The solo album sounds pretty good, but I think the 3rdeyegirl album sucks.
I've only given both one listen each. I definitely like Art Official Age better. The 3RDEYEGIRL album has some good moments. I'll probably give it another listen, but I won't be going back to it often.

I agree about the solo > 3rdeyegirl as well. When I first listened to ART OFFICIAL AGE, the first half of the album had me thinking that it was a lock for album of the month, but then I feel like the whole thing fizzles out in the middle and never picks back up. It is a shame, because Prince sounds incredible and in prime form in those first few songs.
I just read it and I don't really disagree with the last two paragraphs.
I do. They use the word tedium to describe this album. For me, I would use it to describe Syro. They knock Thom for his inexperience in masterfully crafting "beats" and claim that he didn't create anything here that sticks with you or that you'll hum along with. I couldn't disagree more. I can't get these songs out of my head. He does a great job of crafting music that compliments his vocal style. While Syro is obviously expertly put together, it just too often turns into a big ball of noise with no real direction.
I gotta agree with their criticisms. When I first listened I was like "holy cow AOTY" - but that was mostly just due to the fact that it was new Thom Yorke music. After a couple listens though it's starting to become more and more "meh". It's good, it just doesn't have anything that stands out as great. Nor does it have anything that really sticks with me. The more I listen to it the less interesting it gets.
You're not going to find many psych-rock records better than this from this century:
Goat - Commune
-I really like Syro, but, much like the new Caribou, I've listened to Commune so many times, that's it pretty much part of my DNA at this point. -Perfume Genius is really great at times, but it gets way less interesting at the end. -Mr. Twin Sister is the best soundtrack ever for making dinner. -Thom Yorke really hit a sweet spot for me. The Mother Lode, y'all. (I've been misspelling that all my life)
-I love that King Tuff and all it's glammy, rocking glory. (I went to his show last night and it was fun as sh*t)
I'm really looking forward to the month ahead. Caribou and Iceage are already my top contenders. (Seriously, if you haven't heard Iceage yet, it's going to blow you away. There not the same punk band anymore)
